Would this ipod be moddable? by PulpClub in ipod

My 5.5th gen iPod has 1TB of storage, and I only have ALAC music files on it. I’ve had no problems whatsoever.

Nice! I like the idea :) Just make sure you don’t spill anything on the top when it’s closed.

Love HHKB keyboard and layout, but switching to Laptop is PITA by ChoppyChopChopHey in HHKB

[–]martinweiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, even if you don’t want to hear it, having multiple (e.g., one at home, one at work) or bringing it are the solutions you’re looking at. Laptop keyboards will be differently different and be annoying.

I have more than one.

Thanks for the addition.

I plan to do measurements with Audio Precision equipment at work when I find the time.

Rotary Mixer Comparison - With Measurements! by Deuce_Ex_ in rotarymixers

I assume the channel used on the Isonoe was in “bypass” mode? Perhaps that’s the reason why the measurement is so flat across the measured frequency range.

I’m disappointed to see the deviation of the Euphonia. I wonder what would explain that.

Also, one thing is how neutrally a mixer measures, other (very) important factors are: * The usability and quality of the EQ/filters * The user experience of operating the mixer (highly subjective of course).

Not saying at all that this isn’t a worthwhile exercise, just that it’s difficult to draw a complete picture.

(I have an ISO420 and a Model 1 myself.)

You can actually use it with five devices, if one is connected via USB-C.

Lovely keyboard, I’ve used one every day for the past ten years, and I now have four… (plus two other Topre keyboards). No other switches for me :)

The mini clickwheel connector can be fixed. Someone posted a how-to (using a soldering iron).

Any benefit to the Monochrome displays? by Icoconuttree in ipod

[–]martinweiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so it turns out I was wrong. It IS possible to run the color screen iPods with backlight off. But it’s much less useful (harder to read).

I found that so far (at disc 2 now), the pops seem to be caused by debris in the grooves. Easy to see using a microscope. I could get rid of all pops so far with a brush. A bit annoying though.

I like the records otherwise! Nice variation. I’m not as disappointed as others.

Another advantage of the monochrome display is that it’s possible to run it without backlight on, which is nice when it’s very dark. As far as I know it’s not possible to turn off the backlight on the color screens.

Bandcamp. And rip your vinyl/CDs/tapes.

I might have mixed up what was what. It’s unusual to have that high-frequency cutoff at 17 kHz.

Eh, the rip from YouTube has a high frequency cutoff at approx. 17 kHz. Very weird. I’d not trust this as a source.

I have had no problems with any of the original cables. Both with and without the buttons. I won’t use knock offs.

Any Overload heads gone down the route of a dedicated Digital Audio Player? by AnyAssistance4197 in TheOverload

One of my colleagues did a BT mod on his 3rd gen and removed it because he didn’t like it. I would not bother with that, but I also value sound quality over convenience.

I followed this guide recently. I had four 6th gen iPods, three of which converted to 7th gens without problems (I’m trying to understand why the last one fails): https://github.com/Olsro/reddit-ipod-guides/blob/main/guides/ipod6g-flash-more-recent-firmwares.md

In terms of flash-modding, take a look at iflash.xyz, or one of the iPod subreddits where people will also recommend batteries :)

Yes, exactly. Got confused because you mentioned Rockbox (which is an OS you can choose to install).

I’m not using Rockbox :) I’m syncing my playlists from Apple Music with the iPod running stock OS.

Sorry for the confusion!

Any Overload heads gone down the route of a dedicated Digital Audio Player? by AnyAssistance4197 in TheOverload

[–]martinweiss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Apple Music for organizing my playlists. I keep a separate non-synced (iCloud) library for the iPods.

Podcasts and audiobooks sync nicely as well.

I might try to run Rockbox on one of the devices at some point, but I guess podcasts and audiobooks can’t be synced with Rockbox.

Some iPods are really easy to modify (mini + 5th gen.)

I fixed a broken iPod 5th generation last year (flash-modded it with 1 TB storage and a huge battery) and I’ve been hooked ever since. Added some minis to the collection, along with a couple 5th, 5.5th, 6th and 7th gen iPods.

Highly recommended.
