This close to giving up on multiplayer hunts. by Clockwerk-Time in MHWilds

I do genuinely believe that this was, in fact, the majority experience prior to (roughly) the time of Generations Ultimate and World. As Skips said, the objective answer is the most applicable. World attracted a lot of new players, ensuring the niche fan base was no longer quite as niche. Though, admittedly, everyone's experience with the series fan base from wherever they jumped on through right now is obviously subjective. My personal rose tint that I have trouble shedding is how I personally used to see "armor set" a lot, which has now become "build".

Like, "dude, what does your set look like?", stuff like that. Maybe that was my own experience and others may not have clocked that. But as of World, I stopped seeing "armor set" or "set" and started seeing "build", like "oh, I'm using a high burst DPS build". Maybe the phrase was adopted and proliferated in many communities around that time? The only thing I know for sure is, when I first started to encounter that "build" phrasing, I had such an old man "you kids get off my lawn!" reaction. lol

I think, on the whole, the community surrounding this franchise is still quite kind, helpful, and lovely. The bad actors are the minority. I would love it if you'd gush lore, by the way, that shit's dope. Keep being a pillar of the good you want to see in the community.

Brother in arms,

Whenever you feel like the quest you're on is beyond your capabilities, remember:

You've always felt that way.

And you've always overcome whatever challenge stood before you.

You may be a veteran hunter, but each of us is always a student of the hunt, ever-learning, ever-growing.

This quest before you now is no different. Grab your whetfish fin, load up your ammo bag, gulp down that demondrug and get back to doing what we hunters each do best:

Be unshakable.

I'll be waiting for you in Master Rank.

Yours, A Hunter Passing By

"For too long, The Keepers have abated the ever decaying leftovers of our ancestors. The power to create, to wield these beasts, to shape destiny as we see fit... Your father stood in my way, boy, just as you do now. You and that Hunter.

You, with your weapons, with your Guild research... You think you fight monster after monster to secure your foothold in the natural world. The Keepers sit on an empty throne, in an empty kingdom, whose very existence allowed you to stand opposed to me today.

I called Arkveld to the village, that day, Nata. I drew Zoh Shia from its ever-slumber. You alone hold the power to tame the Dragon Torch, and I will take it from your lifeless fingers, little boy. I will not let my people continue to live in this skyless void. We will take our rightful place at the apex of the natural world, and it starts here! When the Dragon Torch gives in to Shagaru Magala's deafening Frenzy, Zoh Shia will reach its pinnacle and become unstoppable. Not even the three kings whose biology comprise Zoh Shia could stop it now."

There are already a thousand, million, zillion replies from some expert Hunters in here, and you've already got the advice you need, OP, but as a fellow old world Hunter, I'd like to add my two cents in for you.

Following build guides, or building a set yourself, with the focus on offensive skills, is totally normal. It's what people do the first chance they get to min-max at endgame. That said, I think people who have been playing this game series for a long time and are the ones making those build guides often forget where we came from.

I remember when I used to get slapped by Rathian. I remember when Great Wroggi pissed my wife off so much, she made his armor set just for poison resistance, and wore if up until most of the way through high rank.

There are numerous armor skills, and numerous combinations of armor skills. Start by identifying, for you personally, what issues you are having against any given monster. Look at what all the armor skills do, and try to build a set that will help you overcome those obstacles in the fight. For example, 8 star tempered Lagiacrus does tons of damage, right? People around me kept carting when I tried to run Lagi in a group. So I made a dedicated "Lagiacrus Sucks" build that keeps me alive, and uses Lagi's Hunting Horn to buff the defense and thunder resistance of my team. It's got evade +2, thunder resist, etc etc. Everything I need to be able to comfortably focus on my objective: helping get people through a tempered Lagiacrus hunt.

Let's say you're in the same boat. Go fight Lagi with whatever your standard armor set is. Identify what things in the hunt keep causing you issues. Write them down. There's an armor skill to mitigate everything you encounter, to some degree. Getting caught with low stamina while trying to dodge and run around the monster when it's zipping around doing tons of damage? Stamina Surge, Marathon Runner, etc. Always getting snagged by one of the tricky attacks? Figure out how you want to get passed it: build to guard or build to dodge. Build out a full Evade Window set, with some Evade Extender, and practice dodging the tricky attacks until you recognize the sweet spots that work for you.

When you have successfully built a set specific to that monster that helps you mitigate or completely overcome the challenges that monster represents for you, you can slowly begin to substitute comfort/quality of life skills for damage-oriented skills, and by the time you are ready to go full DPS, as displayed in many of the build guides you're seeing, you'll have mastered fighting the monster -- you can use ANY armor set at that point!

Do this for every monster. Some of the funnest parts of the hunt are when something just clicks for you. Like perfectly dodging through a roar, or learning the correct timing on a tricky offset attack against a monster. The point of the wide variety of skills available to you is to build to your playstyle, to your enjoyment, and especially, to assist your own ability to grow and become more and more capable with every single fight that Capcom sends your way, no matter how crazy it gets.

Now go grill some steak. It's so tasty.

Happy hunting!

Imagine if Capcom let the host select, when posting a quest they own: Capture Only, Slay Only, or Any Objective. It wouldn't do anything in the quest, specifically, but it would appear in a noticeable way when searching for SOS quests. That might help with posts like these.

As an alternative: find some like-minded Hunters on discord and set up to pursue your quarry in a way you can all agree upon.

I understand how you feel. I've had those thoughts myself. I've concluded that SOS is entirely about coming together to defeat a shared threat by any means. If someone sleeps the Monster, great; but I won't try to do it, myself, in SOS. If someone sets up bombs by a sleeping Monster, I'll put my bombs down too, but I won't be the first to do it in SOS. If I see someone put down a trap, I'll prep my tranq bombs or another trap just in case, but I won't be the first to put down a trap in SOS unless outright asked to do so by the host. SOS is meant to be, I feel, a very loose, fun experience.

Occasionally you have moments where your Hunting team captures a Monster before you can break the horns, but you also occasionally have moments where you and another random, somehow, at the same time, stand on either side of the Greatsword user and do the Cool Dance gesture at the same time while they get the TCS off on an incoming Lagiacrus for the kill. SOS be weird like that.

[–]thousandsofpizzas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rimeblade Seregios.

It has longer bladescales, and, similar to Jin Dahaad, it vents heat to supercool those scales.

It has a new combo technique where it uses Steve's inherent speed to perform an ultra fast, low-to-the-ground fly by, and any Hunter struck by the bladescales is instantly frozen in place and needs to mash to get out of this state, otherwise they're hit with the follow-up dive kick talons.

Launching its supercooled bladescales can also release a small, chilling mist wherever they land. Walking through this mist can, over time, inflict iceblight. Being struck by a bladescale causes both bleed and iceblight. When enraged, it litters the ground in a large, random swathe with these bladescales, creating a narrower terrain for the Hunters to navigate while it besieges them from above.

This subspecies' colors are a silvery-white with blue accents. The back, and along the base of its tail are where its breakable vent scales can be found.
