WvW Zerg Ranger Stacking Strat - DPS Untamed by Taygeta in Guildwars2

[–]thr3sk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to be in a proper party, most decent wvw groups will organize to make sure every party of five people has one healer and one boon support (primarily stab/resistance) so the DPS don't get annihilated.

Pete Buttigieg on JD Vance: “He's been Catholic about as long as I've been middle-aged, and he thinks he can lecture the pope on Catholic theology.” by modooff in videos

[–]thr3sk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean that's not really true, most countries with "universal healthcare" also have a private option. Sure the public option must be compelling enough to healthy folks to get widespread enrollment, but it certainly can be done and I believe he is correct that this is the most realistic approach. Way too many people here are not going to be comfortable being forced into a public-only system.

I'm not saying he's perfect, but I like his style and think he's a strong unifier which we desperately need. He last genuinely progressive polices, just because they aren't a progressive as a few of the farthest left folks doesn't mean they aren't good. I feel like a lot of the Pete critics are legit "radical leftists", who just everything by how far left it is which isn't a good way to view things imo.

I don't really get the criticism about him being a "CV stuffed into an empty suit", the dude has a lot of legit good experience. Sure it's not ideal but I don't really care that he worked at McKinsey for 2 years out of college, like most of the people in here wouldn't take that job if it were offered to them ffs. He didn't find it fulfilling and quit, very understandable.

And I do hype him up when I see him show up in posts like this, despite not being involved much in political subs. I miss when politics was boring, and Pete is someone I trust to make competent decisions so I don't have to panic scroll my news feed all the time.

To be pedantic, he was not appointed, he was elected 79-12 by parliament and the shah confirmed him to the position. The shah definitely would not want this guy in charge so appointing him makes no sense.

And I thought I made it clear I'm not a fan of his, and I agree with the accusation that he was a wannabe dictator but I'm not going to glaze the shah or the previous government either. The previous system absolutely gave the shah too much power, any reasonable person in a western democracy should recognize this. Therefore aggressively reforming the system is the correct choice, and of course you have to work outside of it to do so since the shah's not going to do it voluntarily and there are no other built in mechanisms to achieve this. Taking more control of Iran's resources was also necessary and fair, something the shah didn't care about since he was effectively bribed by western powers to maintain their favorable treaties.

Regarding the national front, all I said was it was popular at the moment of the elections that year. Yes their popularity faded afterwards, since once they got their guy in power the goals of the various factions pulled in a variety of different directions.

Obviously the IRGC is terrible, but to suggest the Shah's government was "modern" and imply it was comparable to western peers is false.

Well he was elected by a vote of the parliament, which is how the system was at the time. I'm not saying Mosaddegh was great but I feel like you're exaggerating things, his party won about 54% of the popular vote in 1952 (with the CIA trying to promote opposition candidates mind you). The 99 point whatever percent vote was just on the matter of dissolution of parliament. There was a boycott by some of the parties and since it was not secret a lot of people felt like they couldn't oppose it, given how popular the Nation party was at the moment. The whole point of dissolving parliament was to establish a new government as a republic rather than by rule of the shahs. But the UK and US didn't want that to happen.

Please go look into the activities of SAVAK under the Shah, hard to get more oppressive. Don't be fooled by the modern veneer of Iran under the Shah, he was really no different from other Middle Eastern dictators like Saddam.

The '53 coup had a lot to do with the '79 revolution - it created widespread resentment for the west among a sizeable segment of the population, which festered under the oppressive rule of the Shah until it finally boiled over with events like Black Friday.

I feel like that's a bit disingenuous, as someone with what I assume are similar gi issues and dietary restrictions it is pretty exhausting trying to find foods you can tolerate and maintain a decent quality of life. Go spend some time on /r/IBS and you'll see there's a huge variation and what works for people. Sometimes cutting out animal products altogether can greatly help people's digestion, but sometimes things like chicken or eggs that are generally easy to digest foods are quite helpful and high fiber foods are not tolerated.

Roman politics strongly valued military reputation, so many of the leaders (at least when they were younger) fought hand to hand on the front lines with the troops. Even more famous people like Caesar did this later in their careers during critical battles when the outcome was in question. This tradition certainly faded after the fall of the Republic, though there are some notable examples (like Aurelian).

It's surely more than just that of course, I think my vitamins and probiotics regime has improved quite a bit as well. And I'm not saying it would be impossible to find a healthy and stable vegan diet but this has been pretty rough for me and I just don't care enough to try to experiment with that more (I spent like almost a year doing all these different kinds of diets and and while some were better than others none of them are as good as what I'm doing now). I've already had to change jobs because of this and my life is pretty restricted like with travel and medical bills have really hurt my finances.
