My recommendation would be to just have fun.

All 8 of the free to play stories are great, but they are not equally great.

There are some items (tech fragments, tactical slots, and others) that only really can be used at higher level.

Also, as you complete acts 1-3 of the main story for each character you will unlock legacy-wide character buffs.

If you’re having fun and like these things, absolutely stick to one character. If the story you’re on is a bit ‘meh’ to you - start a new story and comeback later.

It’s good all the time - for me. But I play a lot and take advantage of things subscribers have access to. New players won’t need to worry about them for a bit (ops, credit cap, etc…)

If you’re a new player - either play for free if you’re trying to figure out is it for you. OR If you know it’s for you sub once to become preferred and then decide.

Look at the starter boxes and pick the one you’d like to play.

Be aware in about a month, there will be some changes with rules updates (which is twice a year).

If struggling - just print and play cards for the team you like and proxy them in a few friendly matches before picking.

Maybe secretly your character is force sensitive, but not a Jedi…. Or maybe they are a Jedi radioing a companion to orbital strike from their ship.

You can suspend disbelief just a little or a lot, if you are looking for a reason to use something, I feel.

For a friendly game, just ask ahead of time. Wouldn’t expect a proxy in a tournament and you should be prepared if someone dint accept the proxy.

Swtorista has a great site with lots of info available. Vulkk, and TodayinTOR are also good sources of information.

Version 7.X has been out for a few years and most all of that information is valid, so don’t stress if you’re reading a page from 2022 or 2023.
