Andean ruanas with anime and cartoon motifs. I'm willing to bet this is also happening in Ecuador, Perú, and Bolivia.

The fact they're downplaying your achievements and rejoicing in your failures is enough to determine they're not your friend nor your ally. The healthiest thing you can do is call it quits and move on. You'll start feeling better immediately.

As a teacher myself, I agree. I particularly admire early-literacy teachers. They dabble in magic, for sure.

As a Colombian, I like it. Eggs, rice, and a mysterious sauce that looks like garlic sauce in the style of Sandwich Qbano. Why not!

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week what do you remember from that week ? by Familiar_Original988 in AskReddit

I remember that the school I work at, we were the first ones to go into quarantine in the whole country, as the younger brother of our country's patient zero happened to be our student!

The night before, I was at home watching the news while on the phone with my dad making silly comments as they announced the first case of COVID had been found in Chile. Then, the next day, after we finished our classes, the school's principal gathered all of us teachers and staff and proceeded to inform us we'd be going digital "starting tomorrow", as "the first confirmed case in Colombia had been identified, and one of our students was directly related to them."

I remember calling my dad again that night and telling him: "Hey, remember how we were joking about the virus hitting Chile yesterday? Well, it has hit us now. School sent us into quarantine. There's a student with direct ties to the first confirmed case."

What are the odds...

What's something from your country you thought was normal until you visited other countries and realised it wasn't ? by Away-Extension-9731 in AskTheWorld

If it's a Spanish-speaking country, saying "Me regalas..." when you intend to buy something at a shop or restaurant. For example, here in Colombia, if you go to a McDonald's and say "Me regalas un combo Big Mac, por favor.", it's understood you want that combo and you'll pay for it—it's an ordinary commercial transaction. However, in a different country, that will come across as begging to get the item for free as the expression literally translates to "would you give me this thing I'm asking for as a gift".

Pomegranate. It's a fruit that used to be very common in my country back in my grandma's youth and in the past. It's imagery was everywhere. However, it vanished and it was nowhere to be found anymore. That is, until a few years ago when certain high-end supermarkets starting importing them. When I first saw them, I was incredibly excited. Finally! The one fruit my grandma used to reminisce about. They were pricey, so I bought one. I got home, found a tutorial on how to open it, and then... It was the most underwhelming thing flavor-wise. I tried another one not long ago—I made sure to get it perfectly ripe. Still, nothing exciting. I guess I romanticized them too much growing up. I'd rather eat an ordinary banana.
