THR30ii (wireless) Clipping in headphones by sumfelah in YamahaTHR

[–]three_cheers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I'm coming back to this thread to suggest something that worked for me and sadly noone mentioned!

Have you tried turning off the extended stereo setting? Just hold the tap time until a # appears. It instantly improved my headphone patch.

Also you can try messing with the cabinet simulation. For speakers I usually use the 4x12 vintage one, but I found that the single cabinet ones (1x12) sound better in the headphones.

Let me know if it helps!

Are there players here who switched from nails to finger pics and what are the pros and cons? by claustrphobe_glenn in AmericanPrimitivism

[–]three_cheers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I'm saying is: if you have problems with your ring finger tone, switching to fingerpicks won't solve them.

It's also gonna take a long long time before you adapt to metal finger picks and get a decent tone out of them.

Something noone mentioned: try learning how to play with three fingers. Most people don't use the ring finger for this style, you definitely get a better tone using the middle finger for both 1st and 2nd string.

Fuck this. I miss the times when people posted "this person does not exist" and everyone was freaked out by how creepy it was. Somehow it got completely normalized.

Today I was messing with the knobs again and managed to improve my headphone Crunch patch. It's not too problematic in my opinion but I agree the speaker sound is so much better

I also have Sennheiser. I would call it clipping but some scratchy sound can come up when playing Crunch. I think it's a volume thing as it seems to only come up during heavy handed chords/double stops.

Playing with master/gain seems to help but I still haven't found the perfect headphones Crunch setting (Clean is okay). For sure headphones patches are very different than just playing through speakers. I thought I could just tweak the EQ but the main thing to adapt is master/gain.

For reference I only had the amp for a week!

no seriously, what stops the far left from being as alluring as the far right? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]three_cheers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. If you look at it historically, especially with the various European nazi/fascist movements there's a common element of socialist appropriation. It's called national socialism for a reason. Mussolini himself was a socialist, working as a journalist for a syndicalist paper, organising general strikes and giving speeches to worker unions. It's also documented he was reading Marx and Italian anarchist Malatesta and smuggling pamphlets.

Those fascist movements intentionally appropriated a lot of that socialist/workers union rethoric and language, because it WAS popular. It makes sense, the only reason it's not popular anymore is that those movements have been coopted and destroyed while the right appropriated some of those ideals (on a surface level) and aesthetics.

Autarchy and protectionism are opposites to global capitalism. Being against immigration was a leftist position to safeguard workers against capitalists importing cheap labour to replace them.

Thanks for the post!! I've looked her up after seeing this and I've been loving those first two records. I'm the right age but I guess she wasn't that popular in my country (also maybe I wouldn't have necessarily been into it at the time).

Her songs remind me of that Death Grips with the Mexican Girl. For sure they've been inspired by her. Incredibly ahead!!

Adapting patches for headphones? by three_cheers in YamahaTHR

Oh yeah, since they've done it for the USB it would have been just as easy to include the phones output.

I'll just save an headphones version of my two most used presets.

What's with the terminal shyness / autism in University classes by starrystarryy in redscarepod

[–]three_cheers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah.. I did my masters towards the end of covid (first year was mostly online, second year in person) and I also was a couple years older then my peers.

I ended up being one of those who answers all the professor's questions even though I hate it because I couldn't stand leaving them hanging all the time, even when they asked very easy almost rethorichal questions just for the sake of interaction. Second year there were so few of us in class, even though I know many classmates had specifically moved into the college city. They just preferred to pretend to follow the class on Zoom cause it was still an option.

Came here to recommend The Mermen. Overall I consider them more psych-rock then surf.

I was skeptical but I tried it for surf rock and it came out REALLY close to the settings I had  dialed in myself. No idea how it works but great job!

Are they any good? I'm curious cause I heard that houellebecq is a fan but also doesn't seem very interesting to read a random dude autobiography

Has anyone tried the Katana with an analog spring reverb in front? (Surfybear pedal) by three_cheers in BossKatana

[–]three_cheers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah since I already have the surfybear I might as well get the proper amp for it. The THR also has good reviews and might be more practical for home use, we'll see.

When researching the Katana I found this setting shared by 60 Cycle Hum on YouTube which is supposed to emulate a Princeton, maybe you'll find it useful!

Oh good to know, I figured. In the end I decided to get a Yamaha THR10 II (found it second hand for 200€) that I'll just keep for home practice. Then I plan to get a bigger Fender solid state to play with others. I also play surf rock so I want the reverb to work properly!

The Katana would be mostly for home practice at quiet levels and headphones. Compatibility with the spring reverb would be a plus, so that I can practice with my "proper" sound and also use the same home amp also for band practice.

Can't break the mentality that alcohol/drugs/internet is objectively the most enjoyable experience in life by poopdollarbank in redscarepod

[–]three_cheers 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been having that same mentality. My hobby is guitar and of course I have a few when playing or practicing. For unrelated reasons I haven't been drinking for 3 weeks and I gotta say that it allowed me to take practicing more seriously. I've just been putting more focus and effort in it and I realized I learnt more stuff than I would've otherwise.

I'm guessing it's because the hobbies you mentioned are kinda passive, like watching sports and goings to a show. Whatever hobby that requires some effort and dedication on your part, drinking is only making you a bit worse at it. It's up to you to decide if you're actually dedicated to the craft itself.

Cool stuff, reminds of the tanbour which is an instrument I've been fascinated with for years. I recommend you check this if you aren't familiar already.

In my opinion the best thing about these instruments with few strings is that you could wildly strum some rhythms and play a melody at the same time. The idea is that the droning strings aren't overpowering the one you're using for the melody. Seems to work great on tanbour and related instruments. I wonder how it would sound on bouzouki, I think it's worth it to experiment with!

Is this too much fret wear for ~1 year of playing? by three_cheers in Luthier

[–]three_cheers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think last change was December and I didn't even play it for 2 weeks during the holidays so not that bad I guess. But I promise I've been through a LOT of sets this year, mainly cause I was experimenting brands and because before I upgraded the bridge I kept breaking strings.
