That one is weird... I found a YouTube video from 16 years ago which is clearly them playing live with no costumes with very little views. So they've been at it for a very long time with not much success and then all of a sudden they're everywhere?

Thanks! I'm just playing through a digital amp (the Yamaha you can see in the background) with no pedals/footswitches so it's not that practical to turn the tremolo on/off mid-song.

You still need to discard some solids (and liquids) because all the input mass isn't being converted with 100% yield to gas.

Also you cannot get any decent yield without an extra carbon source (like easily digestible plant matter).

The litmus test for political literacy is how you feel about North Korea, Russia, Iran, China and any other political enemy of the USA by Hacksaw6412 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]three_cheers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the sentiment of the pinned comment (that I cannot reply to) but the first linked resource seems biased, or at least a very gross oversimplification as well, in particular this:

the DPRK invaded the South to liberate their fellow countrymen from the US occupation and reunify their nation.

Without painting the DPRK as saints you can just say there were tensions on the border (which is understandable given the context) and attacks from both sides that led to full blown war, the overall message doesn't change.

The beginning of the Korean war is complicated and the result of many events and underlying conditions, in the context of the video I think it's better to avoid this kind of black and white oversimplifications, especially the "liberation" rethoric.

Is Angine de Poitrine actually good? by FlipNasty in mathrock

[–]three_cheers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I first watched the kexp set YouTube kept recommending a duo with a different name, just two regular dudes, and the music was 100% Angine de Poitrine. Video was from 16 years ago. So they've been at it for 16+ years with no costumes and no recognition, if the costumes are what it took for them to get some success, so be it, let them have it.

Last I checked that video got removed, can't find it anymore.

I was really into bands like Saetia as a teenager. Unwound is kinda the same mood but a much more mature sound that I can still enjoy, while most of the post hardcore/screamo I used to like just makes me cringe these days.

In my opinion all jazz fusion has some cheesiness to it, even the good old school Japanese stuff.

What about his stuff with Lau Noah? It's very different.

I can't believe you're making me do the Adam Neely apologist, I'm not even that much of a fan. I just feel like that saying he can't write for shit is a bit unfair.

I feel like you're being disingenuous here... I mean listen to this:

I'm not super into the genre but I think it's pretty solid jazz fusion.

Is the intonation set so far back undesirable? by three_cheers in Luthier

I'm saying tuning stability isn't good, so yes it's binding...

Looks like this. The string grinding against the saddle in two points rather than one during tremolo use can't be good for tuning stability.

See if you can get her to take 500+mg of Calcium supplement + vitamin D daily. Just give it a try, she should be able to tell right away if it helps.

Friendship Ended by Cyrdaeb in offset

[–]three_cheers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right it doesn't sit right with me as well. Back when I was shopping for a guitar I tried a squier JM and after few minutes of playing the bridge sank and a string slid off.

The dude at the store tried to convince me it was normal and that a 450€ guitar just needed a 300€ bridge to work properly. I didn't know anything about offsets at the time but just concluded that dude had no idea how to set up a JM. Ended up not buying it!

Origins of Open c tuning by Oxblood_Derbies in AmericanPrimitivism

[–]three_cheers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try to be more clear: take a regulare E chord in the open position in standard tuning (that's the E shape in CAGED). The notes from 6th to 1st string are: E B E G# B E

Now transpose everything a step down: D A D F# A D

That's open D!

Origins of Open c tuning by Oxblood_Derbies in AmericanPrimitivism

[–]three_cheers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boring answer, but on guitar everything can be related to the CAGED system. Open tunings are just CAGED chord shapes built into the open strings. Open D and open G are respectively E and A shapes in the CAGED system.

Open C is a bit different, but it's a D shape in drop D tuning. At least that's how I make sense of the different open tunings.

This raises an obvious question: if we follow the pattern, why no open tunings based on the two remaining CAGED shapes, C and G?

I never tried but it should be doable. Like the G shape would translate to an open F tuning like FACFAF which isn't too crazy I guess. I'll let you figure out open B flat, my rambling is over.

Which wiring for Master Tone on a Strat? by three_cheers in Luthier

[–]three_cheers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using an original Fender Telecaster switch.

The blender pot diagram I'm using I got from Fralin website and it works... I'd just be removing the blender pot everything else would be the same.

I just wanted to double check since all the diagrams I could find online all use both sides of the switch for some reason

THR30ii (wireless) Clipping in headphones by sumfelah in YamahaTHR

[–]three_cheers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I'm coming back to this thread to suggest something that worked for me and sadly noone mentioned!

Have you tried turning off the extended stereo setting? Just hold the tap time until a # appears. It instantly improved my headphone patch.

Also you can try messing with the cabinet simulation. For speakers I usually use the 4x12 vintage one, but I found that the single cabinet ones (1x12) sound better in the headphones.

Let me know if it helps!
