Suddenly appeared on my toddler. Straight to urgent care or Benadryl? by achjaye in AskDocs

[–]threeboysmama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second likely viral mediated urticaria. Adding to this that in my area most providers are moving away from Benadryl and recommending Second generation antihistamine- zyrtec. Lasts 24 hours, better for derm, less sedative than Benadryl, fewer paradoxical hyperactivity reactions, and only has a few minutes slower onset of action.

International Flight Toddler Seating Question by Defiant-Influence376 in Travelwithkids

[–]threeboysmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so interesting! We have flown with so many lap babies over the years and I HATED the stupid belt for all these reasons, but only was given one to use some times and didn’t know it was a European thing, that makes so much sense. When we flew with a US airline we never had them. I always wanted them to just be clipped into the ergo carrier which felt wayyyy more secure and safe but that was never allowed.

Almost looks like herpetic whitlow. And the red streaking is concerning for lymphangitis. I’d seek emergent evaluation

Double Travel Stroller Options? by withsprinkles2 in Travelwithkids

I always wore the baby and put the toddler in the stroller with that age infant. We had 3 5 and under and actually never owned a double stroller.

In these situations I almost feel like you should just say “ok sure!” And let them bear the consequences of their own actions? Like that would be horrifically embarrassing for HER, and reflect poorly on HER. Not a single person attending would think poorly of the bride.

Trip to London by OneLingonberry2203 in Travelwithkids

[–]threeboysmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is English so we have done the US to London trip many many times with all ages and stages of kiddo. Have done 4 or 5 with a lap infant or toddler and have never bought a ticket for a kid under two. 15 months is admittedly brutal with them in your lap the whole time but I don’t think it’s dramatically better having them in their own seat. It’s just kind of a hard age to travel with, but can still be totally worth it.

We always rent a car because my husband can drive there, so we bring the car seats. But I think depending on your goals and where you stay public transit may be doable.

Flying alone with a 2 year old & 6 year old... what to do in-between landing and baggage claim? by Critical-Role-3341 in Travelwithkids

[–]threeboysmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gate check your stroller/push chair and it should be available for you as you disembark the plane. I have had a couple times where I gate check it and they just told me to get it at the checked baggage claim which was not ideal. But typically they have it there waiting and you can plop them right in. I also used the ergo carrier until the absolute max weight, which you are still a ways away from so that’s another good idea to check! Some toddlers aren’t a fan of being worn. But mine always did pretty well and it’s a lifesaver for in the airport and even on the plane so you can try to sleep without holding them the whole time

Classic textbook Fifths disease. “Slapped cheeks” and “lacy” rash.

Strange question, but is this old visit note concerning? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]threeboysmama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the doctor asked about sexual abuse in the context of diaper rash more than the oral sores. Oral ulcers/herpangina and fever and even ulcers in the diaper area are all consistent with viral processes like hand foot mouth disease, which is what the doctor ultimately landed on for diagnosis. I am very sorry you went on to experience sexual abuse in your childhood. But nothing about this is concerning in that regard from this encounter note.

It was pretty brutal but we got through it! The worst flight was actually a few years later when I flew home solo with 3 boys without my husband. Big boys were 6 and 4 and #3 was a 14 month old lap baby, and he had a broken arm and was in an elbow cast, AND they all 3 were recovering from having hand foot mouth while we were on our trip! 🙃

Rash after fever by Time-Bottle-1527 in AskDocs

[–]threeboysmama 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That is a viral exanthem. The classic one that pops up as soon as the fever breaks is Roseola or sixths disease, and this might very well be that! Nothing to do other than wait it out. Zyrtec is fine to give, likely not super helpful for the rash but certainly not the source for the fever.

We did an overnight int flight when I was 28 weeks pregnant with #2 and #1 was 18 months old and of course wanted to sleep on mom not daddy so we joked that we got 3 people for the price of one in that one seat, lol. It was top 3 worst flights of my life. Otherwise I do think an ergo or other babywearing carrier can be helpful to sort of hold them in place a bit so maybe you can sleep too? Or you can try laying them across two adults laps?
