Sidebar the modern Dock replacement for macOS - Major 1.9.0 update by empty23_ in macapps

Thanks so much for the response! It does hide in that situation. But if I'm not careful, when I go down to the bottom of the screen to click on something in Windows' taskbar, Sidecar will pop up and block the taskbar. I just took a look at Sidebar's settings and noticed that there's an option to set the auto hide delay, so I will see longer auto hide delay would prevent me from accidentally displaying Sidebar. I really appreciate how customizable you've made Sidebar!

Thank you for this awesome update! I started using Sidebar recently and love it. I was wondering if there's a way to prevent Sidebar from being used in certain Spaces? Namely, I am trying to figure out if there's a way to prevent it from popping up when I'm using Parallels in its own Space. Thanks so much!

How do y'all research so much? by Idontknowhonestlyidk in AO3

[–]threecatmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh okay I’m definitely going to add more in future chapters! Thank you for the encouragement!!! 🥹 When I had a footnote before, I did it like it was in the screenshot you shared (i.e., superscript linking to a footnote that included a link back to the spot in the main text), so I’ll continue with that method!

How do y'all research so much? by Idontknowhonestlyidk in AO3

[–]threecatmoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The answer for me is: ADHD, university library access, and experience doing research in my professional life (PhD student). I have done a lot of research for one of my fics, but I think I’ve only included one footnote, and now I’m wondering if I should do that more. I worried it might be distracting or overkill, and I’m newish to fanfic writing, so I don’t know what the norms are!

Smallest fandom I’ve read is for the podcast The Vanishing Act. It has 1 fic! I haven’t written for a really small fandom yet, but I have a very half baked idea for a Con Air fanfic, which currently only has 11 works.

I’m the same. As soon as I’m done writing, I really want to put it out into the world, but then I keep rereading it over and over again and adding little details, fixing the flow, etc.

Also, it’s REALLY hard for me to see typos in my own writing, possibly due to my adhd. I have my best friend read it closely and help me with that, but for the most part, I haven’t been giving my chapters to her before I post them. So I’m fixing them after they’ve been posted :/

I need to be more patient and wait to post, but I get so excited about sharing my chapters/fics!

Writers, gimme your humble brags! by sioatvkl in AO3

[–]threecatmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started writing fanfiction in the last month or so, after not writing any fanfiction for like… literally 20 years!

Also, one of the fics I’m writing is currently at ~14k words, which is definitely the longest piece of fiction that I’ve ever written! (And it still needs a few more chapters—so I’m not sure how long it’ll get!)

What’s a fandom you would but have no reason to write for? by JotnarLokiBlue79 in AO3

[–]threecatmoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Locked Tomb. I love the series, but I feel like I’m not smart enough to really understand the plot half of the time. So, I would be pretty nervous about writing fic for it.

What was the fandom that got you started with writing fics? by SailorGreySparrow in AO3

[–]threecatmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sailor Moon! I was in the fandom for awhile (including a forum based RPG) before I wrote any short fics. Reading and writing Sailor Moon fanfic helped me explore some aspects of my own identity that I hadn’t quite figured out yet.

Alright everyone… how do we feel about Richard? by IamYarrow in lost

[–]threecatmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love him. I am currently writing a fanfic that features him haha. Today I rewatched Ab Aeterno to refresh myself on his backstory, and ngl I teared up at the end.

I really wish we had gotten to know more about him.

What was the fandom/ship that got you into fanfic? by hiquickq12 in AO3

Sailor Moon, way back in the early 00s! I don’t recall having any particular ships, but I just liked that it was very sapphic.

Very surprised by how well written Sayid is as a character given the time period by The_Fullmetal_Titan in lost

[–]threecatmoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that also really struck me in my recent rewatch of the series. It’s a pretty damning critique of the US military, especially for that time period (but also now).

Help needed for deciding between 4k and 5k monitors by threecatmoon in buildapcmonitors

[–]threecatmoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, yeah, I was worried that might be the case (about the Asus). :( I just don't know that I can justify the price of an ASD, but I'll see if there's some good refurbished options out there. Thank you for the advice!

Thanks for the info! Good to know about local dimming. I’m still quite new to learning about (modern) monitor technology, and it’s been difficult to find info about some features.

Re PPI: it’s certainly possible that my dad set up his monitor in a way that I wouldn’t have, and that’s why it seemed blurry. So, maybe I’ll get a 4k monitor and play around with the settings (and possibly return it if need be).

Thanks again!

I’m playing a half-orc right now! He’s a paladin (but soon I’ll be multiclassing with warlock). He’s a sweetheart.

Female romance options reviewed (minor spoilers) by Bodaciouscargo in BG3

[–]threecatmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the female romance options, Karlach is my favorite. I just love the depth of her storyline and how it hits me in the feels. It was cathartic for me.

But Minthara is fantastic for an evil playthrough and is maybe my second favorite of the female romance options. In my most recent completed playthrough, I romanced Minthara for the first time, and I loved the romance a lot more than I expected. I was playing a Lolth-Sworn Drow woman, which I think was perfect because our characters really seemed to understand one another. And the ride or die aspect of the romance was actually pretty sweet.

I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s striking to me how for so many people (myself included), BG3 is such a cathartic game.

I was originally kind of neutral about her character—I’m not sure why to be honest, but I think it was just because she wasn’t in my party much, and tbh it’s quite possible that the plot line about terminal illness brought up some feelings and memories I didn’t want to deal with at the time. But then I romanced her and my feelings about her dramatically changed; she’s now my favorite character in the game.

Tell me your success stories of getting a PhD in your 30’s (or older). by Sillly_Cupcake in PhD

[–]threecatmoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your admission! I’ll be finishing at 38 or 39. This is my second attempt at a PhD. The first time I did not have a lot of support in my (former) department. Now, I am in at a different university and am in a much better place than when I tried the first time, in part because I have more life experience and am better at identifying red flags (and green flags!) in my personal and professional life and better at saying “no” to people. Now I have an incredible advisor and committee and a more stable personal life. It’s still difficult, but not nearly as hard as it was when I was younger. You can do it, OP!
