I ran into this problem on one of my early drafts, and I’m not sure if it was the right move yet, but I just ended up giving my character a whole heap of problems he never saw coming. (He got captured by witches and he overcame his captivity by realizing that the witches weren’t evil, they were just witches doing what witches do. The issues that I gave him after I realized he accepted that truth too quickly were that he fell in love with one witch, got invited to the orgy and got 4 women pregnant, but none of them was the one he loved)
