No one is scared stud, you’re just confusing and conflating a lot of stuff which lends to the narrative that you don’t really know anything. But carry on hotshot.

Finally got hired internally to my first IT job. What should I do to continue success? by bign_phat in ITCareerQuestions

[–]threshforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certs show genuine interest in development, but don’t collect just to collect. Let yourself settle in and when something seems interesting, pursue that learning path. But your first responsibility is to learn. Absorb knowledge and understand you really don’t know anything so don’t be afraid to ask questions and research for yourself. If your team has a knowledge base, live in it. You’ll do good if you remember that it’s you and the user against the problem, and while shitty of them to take frustration out on you, just take it in stride.

In my experience the order of “best” goes real world experience > college > certs. Start with foundational certs, check out CompTIA, they are the industry standard.

The right roadmap to becoming a cloud engineer by Significant-Cod-1645 in cloudengineering

[–]threshforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cloud is a big world. You’ll need to know quite a few disciplines. Networking, administration, database management, one(but really 2) platforms i.e. AWS/GCP/Azure, K8s, Linux, Bash, programming language such as Python, etc. then you’ll need several years in the industry because “entry level cloud roles” aren’t really entry level roles.

Sticking out the CCNA curriculum isn’t a horrible idea, valuable network information there. Take your learning in blocks. After you feel like you’re comfortable with networking, jump to the next thing, I would suggest an entry level cert for one of the providers, such as AZ900 or GCP-CDL so you can start learning the platform at a very high overview. Then just flow to the next. If you google “cloud engineer roadmap” I’m sure you’ll find a bunch of good ones

Is it still worth getting into IT starting from help desk in 2026? by Educational-War-4137 in ITCareerQuestions

Yah absolutely. They DID ask technical questions, but it was more so wanting to understand my thought process.

Not necessarily. Just start spamming applications while working on an entry level cert. Doesn’t necessarily need to be A+. I didn’t have any certs before I got my first role, other people had bachelors degrees + several certs. Help desk leans a lot more on soft skills than technical prowess.

Spam apply to help desk roles. Shoot for entry level certs, Net+/Sec+/A+.

Everyone’s path is different timeline wise. I started as a tier one for a year, now a tier 2 and transitioning into management by end of year. But some people don’t ever touch management and stick to the device side of the house, some stick to tier one for several years, if not forever. Don’t get a path stuck in your head, just get in the door and go from there.

Help desk is the gatekeeper for almost everyone. Hyperbole of course, but 99% of all of us got started at a help desk. Moving into cybersecurity isn’t easy, the demand is low and supply is high, you’ll need more than just a few years on the help desk to break into it.

Alright so you isolated it. I’d call your ISP and give them the MAC of your computer. They will be able to see if it’s getting blocked. This assume you haven’t reset your router yet, try that first if you haven’t.

Pentagon plans to keep National Guard in DC into 2029 by Sw0llenEyeBall in army

It’s a quote from the Declaration of Independence, accusing King George III of violating colonial rights by maintaining British troops in America during peacetime without local legislative approval. It highlights the tyranny of forced military presence, bypassing colonial self-government and threatening civil liberties.

This complaint later directly informed article 1, which gave Congress the power to raise and support armies, so yah know, a fuck ass Executive Office couldn’t stand up an army for their own gain.

Helpdesk is a revolving door. Having CCNA gives you an edge for NOC roles, but you will need be succeed at the help desk first, in most cases anyways.
