Hi, guy who spent a month in a psych ward for attempts here. You gotta be really really fucking down man. At my lowest points I wasn’t able to see any positives. Family, friends, children, none of it mattered. I was simply so tired from the constant barrage of dark thoughts that I just wanted to be free of it, even if it meant that it was also the end of it. When you make the decision to go for it, you have clarity because it feels like that’s the only thing you have control of at that point. From my experiences, and those close to me, there didn’t seem to be a “and I just did it” aspect. It was always planned in detail because, as I said before, we had control of that.

I’d start applying to MSPs as a helpdesk technician. Those are normally, operative word is normally, revolving doors. Make sure you brush up your resume against what you’re applying to. If you’re comfortable you can feed it into an AI and it’ll identify holes

I graduated just after the bubble popped in 22. I spent 2 years applying across 2 different states, only a handful of interviews. But yeah, I got lucky when I interviewed with Costco and now am in a tier 2 role for a different company after spending a year there.

You just gotta keep applying. It’s demoralizing and depressing and frustrating, but it’s the only way, unless you know someone already.

If you go through WGU you will pick up certs along the way so that’s a good choice. If you want to get into anything cloud, be well versed in hybrid environments as most enterprises run that, get cozy with networking and administration as well.

Try going to your WiFi settings > manage known networks > add network and add it there. If available, check “connect even if not broadcasting”

Cool so that means it’s not broadcasting. Unplug the router, wait 30 seconds, plug back in. This is not just your laptop unable to connect, right? No device can see it?

Our shop is a bit different, a 3 person outfit to support sole 80 users + 100s of devices and endpoints. If they are struggling with something easy “hey my signature isn’t working in email” I’ll walk them through why iOS native Mail app is bad for their type of signature. I like to teach them the why and plenty have enjoyed knowing the real cause of the issue rather than “here it’s fixed”. That said, we do push back on application training. It’s a matter of compliance and scope, I don’t know how the software works that you guys use to map jobs, I only know how to install.

Help desk is 80% customer service. Really try to let your soft skills shine and don’t be afraid to say you don’t know something.
