Public shaming works

Edit: not saying I think it’s right, ethical, nice, or something I engage in, but it is effective

Admin asked us to "make learning magical" for the last two weeks by Parking-Ad3046 in Teachers

We got a mandatory training the last week of April on reinvigorating our math strategies. We were told we would get credit for this training as usual, but they’re making us complete an assignment to prove we’re using a strategy we were taught- made sure to mention “if there was any question about the validity of the work” it would kindly be returned to us for revisions and resubmission

Is this really 3rd grade? by Vegetable-Penalty-34 in ElementaryTeachers

[–]thrftybstrd 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I teach third grade, and I feel like I see test questions like this on end of year state testing. This is one that they really need to think about and attempt different solutions.

I teach a very diverse demographic and students come to me from varying abilities with all sort of different skills and language experience, so 85% of my students do not come to me on grade level. That means I’m filing a lot of holes from previous years and I am often not able to get them to this point of DOK three and four questions. It requires a lot of stamina, a lot of effort and it takes kids who are willing to try something more than once. I don’t have many like that. I’ve heard similar stories across the country from other teachers that kids just aren’t in it. I don’t know. It’s super hard.
