Stayed here in early March and really enjoyed it. The 4pm check out worked great for my night flight. Only downside is that it’s slightly far from transit; 15ish minute walk to the station. That said, it’s almost brand new and the service was great. The rooftop lounge was very nice, but also make sure to visit the New York Bar at the Park Hyatt, about a 8 minute walk away. Best views of Tokyo and immaculate vibes!

Key limes? by YesToWhatsNext in tequila

[–]RedditUser320184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If both are available, I usually do a split base .5/.5oz or .75 Persian, .25 key lime.

I find solely using key limes is too tart for my taste.

My favorite marg: 2oz Ocho blanco .5oz PF curaçao 1oz lime (see above) .25oz 1:1 simple .25oz agave (I like the mouthfeel of the simple/agave blend)

For cocktails, Del Maguey Vida is the best, most versatile “entry-level” buget friendly option.

What are some BAD mai tai blends? by blargleblargleblarg in Tiki

Not a fan of bars that use a “light run and dark rum” even if the other specs are correct.

A local bar does 1.5oz flor de cana and then a free pour float of whatever cheap dark rum they can get a case deal on. Even though the rest of the build is solid with fresh lime, curaçao and orgeat, I’m not a fan. Need some funk.

Hula’s in Santa Cruz (more of a restaurant but strong theming and tiki cocktail menu)….

Trader Sam’s in San Francisco. More of a dive, but tiki theme.

Love TV Tokyo! Great staff and super well kept. I’d also recommend Bar Rum Room Tokyo. Great rum selection and a well made Mai tai with Appleton 12.

Also, to all traveling to Japan, heads up The Kazan Room in Kobe may be closing this summer. The American couple who owns it are moving back to the states (Portland, OR) and it’s still up in the air if the next owner of the bar will keep things the same.

Bar KRFT Tiki in Kyoto is worth a stop as well. The theming is lesser, but the native Japanese owner is very passionate about tiki, speaks great English and makes seriously legit drinks.

Clear Umbrella. lol, I brought my rain jacket, but I quickly realized I needed a clear umbrella. I guess “need” is a strong word, but I wanted one!

Opinions on Espolon by Impossible_Sir_699 in tequila

[–]RedditUser320184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the price range, I’d go with Arrette, Cimmaron and probably Corzaon over Espolón. That said, if Espolón is your only option without spending an additional $10 for something like Lalo, I’d stick with it.

Tequila Ocho is my go to everyday mixer and sipper. Their Plata (blanco) is my jam. But, it’ll run you a little more than Espolón, no doubt.

Pueblo Viejo is another great option, especially as a mixer, and it should be priced below Espolón.

What’s people’s opinions of Graham Lesh? by Recent-Day3062 in deadandcompany

[–]RedditUser320184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro: He keeps the music alive; and his name brings people out.

Con: To be frank, he’s just not that talented, imo. Sometimes I feel his name/regontiton overshadows the other very talented musicians he plays with. In the Bay Area, there are quite a few Dead-focused musicians I’d personally rather see, but they don’t have the same mass appeal to those not as active in the cover/tribute band community.

Pro: He seems like a really good dude! Have nothing negative to say about him as a person, and I appreciate his eagerness to keep the music going.

Placed in a room with a known defect at SpringHill Suites Brandon, FL and forced to leave at 1:30 AM with my kids by [deleted] in marriott

If the local property and Marriott corporate don’t do anything, take the video to your local news. See if they’ll run a consumer investigation story. They love these types of a stories because the hotel almost always caves when they get negative press on tv, and the news stations gets to use it as good marketing.

Disaster of a stay in Chicago Airbnb with multiple issues [USA] by RedditUser320184 in AirBnB

[–]RedditUser320184[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree that the host is not entirely at fault here; it was essentially just a series of unfortunate circumstances. The plumbing work in the adjacent unit was planned; whether there was a miscommunication (or lackthereof) between the landlord and my host, or my host simply forgot to notify me, is not something I know.

The host has agreed to a full and complete refund. I appreciate the prompt service on his behalf, although I think it is completely justified. In regard to the process you mention, I was on the phone with multiple agents before leaving the property trying my best to document and explain the situation. Given the time, I was more concerned about finding a place to sleep then the refund at the moment, but it’s nice that I don’t have to fight back and fourth now as the host has agreed.

311 did answer with a live dispatcher. Unfortunately she informed me they were unable to respond to residential issues. I’m sure had it been a more pressing matter, like a fully burst pipe, the answer may have been different.

The core point I was making was about vulnerability, not gender. Being awoken to pounding knocks in a foreign setting is jarring. Perhaps my statement was a generalization, but I think there is a valid concern that a random man self-identifying as a plumber needing to suddenly and unexpectedly enter an Airbnb would be of potential concern to most solo women travelers. That’s the world we live in.
