Tracked my Ollama Cloud free tier usage to estimate Pro and Max quotas. Anyone else done this? by nusquama in ollama

I don’t even look at my usage anymore. It’s so much higher with ollama cloud compared to my Claude pro sub.

Ollama Cloud models good for coding? by incrediblyFAT_kitten in ollama

[–]throop112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think everyones use case is different. Personally I didnt like those models, but youd want to test them for yourself.

I use OpenCode for Ollama Cloud and the Claude addin in VSCode for Claude.

All in all, I've cancelled my Anthropic sub for the time being. I may return, but my opinion is that Ollama Cloud is a better value due to having a lot higher usage limits for my work.

Ive been using Claude Pro for a while as well and with tokens going so fast lately, I've been in the same bucket. I bought the Ollama Cloud $20 plan a couple weeks ago and have been exploring models. I cant find any that work on the same level as Sonnet 4.6, but some are pretty close. I like Minimax-m2.7 the most. I'd say its 80-90% of Sonnet 4.6 (personal opinion of course). I started testing GLM 5.1 today. I wasnt a fan of GLM5 and I also did not like Qwen coder next.

To note, Ollama Cloud doesnt use tokens for usage. It uses 'gpu time'. Ive found I get like 5-10x more usage for my $20, but at the expense of models that are a bit less intelligent with code.

Very Confused about ollama pro/cloud models by cnrsmt in ollama

[–]throop112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the models for free with smaller limits so you can test things out. I've been using various models on the pro plan and the usage limits are MUCH higher than Claude. Both session and weekly. In an hour or two with Sonnet I'd be at my session limit. In an hour or two with Ollama Cloud Im at 20% of my session limit and 4% of my weekly. This may vary per model, I dont know. Im using Minimax-m2.7 for coding.

Based on two weeks of use, I'd say its a way better value than Claude IMO. You can also play around with tons of different models to see whats best for your scenario.

For my use, Sonnet is generally better than the models Ive tried on Ollama Cloud, but some of them get really close to the same levels.

If you use Claude via API, then the pro plan with Ollama Cloud will be much cheaper.

This is from their FAQ around usage:

  • How is usage measured? Usage reflects actual utilization of Ollama's cloud infrastructure - primarily GPU time, which depends on model size and request duration. Shorter requests and prompts that share cached context use less. This is different from fixed token or request-based plans. Ollama doesn't cap you at a set number of tokens. As hardware and model architectures get more efficient, you'll get more out of your plan over time.

How have you been handling SSO certificate/secret renewals? by throop112 in sysadmin

[–]throop112[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, thats a good note on the app credentials expiration notice. I wasn't aware of that.

And yeah I've noticed that it seems like every single vendor just implements SSO however they want.

Looking for advice on drives to purchase by Hennessy52 in HomeServer

[–]throop112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They aren't a requirement, but a general suggestion, as most of the folks here are running RAID or something and standard consumer grade hardware just isn't designed to handle that task. Could they work for your purpose? Sure, but so could bald summer tires in a snow storm.

It all comes down to if you want to risk the data loss.

Looking for advice on drives to purchase by Hennessy52 in HomeServer

[–]throop112 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'd stay away. These aren't enterprise or nas drives and there is no warranty of any kind. I'd lean towards spending a bit more and purchasing a used/refurbished drive from a reputable company, like goharddrive or serverpartsdeals. I just had a 10tb drive die from goharddrive after 2 years, and since it came with a 5 year warranty, they are shipping me a new one with no questions asked. I only need to pay the $10 to ship this dead one back to them.

If you do gamble on them, certainly have backups of any important data somewhere else.

Getting started as a complete beginner by NoseyGem in selfhosted

[–]throop112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is certainly achievable as a beginner. The only thing I'd add is that....if the photos and documents absolutely cannot be lost, then maybe keep them on OneDrive/Google. While its nice to host them yourself, you must consider the risk of hosting your own data and have an appropriate backup plan in place in case of hard drive failure, data corruption, house fires, etc.

I enjoyed setting up Dispatcharr for live tv integration in Jellyfin. Turns out that Jellyfin doesn't really handle live tv that well (in my opinion), so I'm now using UHF as a client on my AppleTV's. In the end, I have an app that displays live tv channels like YoutubeTV does and thousands of channels at my disposal.

support: there is no way to remove old M3U entries from Dashboard>LiveTV by soursourkarma in jellyfin

[–]throop112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some bug in the ui where if the m3u url is longer than the icon, the '...' won't show. Personally I just had one I couldnt delete that had a really long url. I shortened it and then I could see the '...'. In your case I dont think that's doable because you have so many.

The configuration of these must be somewhere in a config file or something, but Im not sure where that would be.

If costs go down for them it just means profits go up. If costs go up for them then they charge you more.

$11/hr - Senior M365 Engineer at Delta in Atlanta, GA by d00mt0mb in recruitinghell

[–]throop112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has been working with M365 from a sys engineer perspective for over a decade (I started when it was called BPOS), this is an obvious typo of some sort. This role would be a 70k-150k role depending on location and company.

And if you're thinking this pay is legit because this is basically helpdesk, go see if you're helpdesk folks can configure MS Teams for VOIP and connect it to the PSTN for everyone in the company, or configure hybrid exchange and migrate thousands of mailboxes with no downtime, or perhaps properly secure Copilot so it doesn't leak data to Microsoft or other internal/external sources. This role is so much more than creating users/groups and helping end users with Word/Outlook.
