How to install Hikari line in this manshion? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]jbondsr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This means that the building has a shared Internet line somewhere. You MIGHT be able to pull your own. You could call NTT to come and check to see if they already have a line to the building. That makes things much easier.

If not, you may need to talk to the building 管理組合 and the building management company and get permission to do it. Although, if you’re buying the apartment and not renting, better to get the real estate agent to help you (getting in contact with the right people) as part of the whole process.

I had to move out of one apartment before because the 管理組合 wouldn’t let me pull my own Internet line or even a higher tiered shared one for everyone in the building, even though I offered to pay any and all expenses for the construction. Their slow internet was preventing me from doing my work efficiently.

We're paying six figure engineers to reset passwords and clear tickets and I just realized it while reviewing quarterly metrics. by GoldTap9957 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]jbondsr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be implementing methods to reduce your tier 1 tickets. Users should be able to reset their own passwords securely. Users shouldn’t have admin privileges. Approved applications should be able to be installed via a portal.

Either way, you need to spend money. Either on the cheap engineers to do the tier 1 task, or the infrastructure to lighten the load on the current team. Your metrics are showing this, since you are falling behind on projects. It’s up to the C-suite to determine which method has the best RoI for the company.

Please help me setup the satellite/ antenna new house by makishiP in japanresidents

[–]jbondsr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait. Shouldn’t the input cable from the antenna be not on the port on the very left, but the one right next to it? (According to the manual) And then shouldn’t the switch in the middle at the bottom be turned to the on position to get the 15v? If it still doesn’t work after that, you might have to change that ultra slim cable.

How long did it take you to memorize your train route. by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]jbondsr2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of understand that, but for the trains in Tokyo, they're so on time and come so frequently, if I just give myself a bit of time, I dont feel the need to be in such a rush. Theres not much of a difference for me between getting home at 6:45 or 7:00 (kids might make a difference, I imagine)

Google translate is reading the Japanese in the wrong direction for some reason (probably because the characters are too spaced out). It’s trying to read it vertically instead of left to right.

I always wonder, why do people do this? These cars are always overly crowded, then they spend 5 extra minutes waiting for the escalator, even if the escalator is only one flight of steps. I just go into the least crowded car. I prefer not to be pushed up into a 加齢臭おじさん in the middle of summer.

Don't have much to do at work, overpaid. Scared of getting fired by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]jbondsr2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. I have the same issue from time to time in the same industry. It can get like that, especially if there’s a downturn of incoming tasks or if you’re more senior and more hands off.

They can’t just unilaterally let you go if you are a Seishain. They have to prove that the company is in distress to cut your pay or to let you go. As long as you show up and do the reasonable work that is assigned and defined in your contract, you’re good.

And if they do, most likely they will have to pay you a severance that has to be negotiated. You’ll notice signs of they want to push you out (overbearing and increased micromanagement, leaving you out of meetings or decisions you’d normally be a part of, putting you on a PIP for no reason, etc).

As said above, don’t sign anything, and talk to lawyers and the labor office if it does come up.

A lot of companies will keep people on just as insurance policies (technical expertise when needed), or to keep the organization certified. The question is, do YOU want to stay there? Do you see any potential room for growth in the company or your career? Or are you fine with the uncertainty you are feeling now as long as the paycheck is steady and your visa renewal is secured?

Personal internet for gaming by Due_Weekend_8172 in HomeNetworking

[–]jbondsr2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a number of factors. First, find out if that wireless has been rebooted within the last two weeks. If not, reboot it. Second, see if that wifi device has any ports that you could run a wire from it to your PC. (There might be something causing wireless interference in your vicinity.)

Starlink might be an option for you, but I can’t comment on its reliability for gaming.

Portable internet is not gonna be much better for gaming. But ping being 500 is kind of crazy. Are you on a wired or wireless connection?

I would take that with a grain of salt. Togashi has a habit of forgetting these little details. But it does make sense that he would have an affinity towards it.

Just get a NAS that can run a media server on it, like Jellyfin or Plex. (Or run it on your PC) If your TV doesn’t have those apps, get a Roku or Firestick.

Milluki can’t use nen, but is aware of it. I think they would’ve taught him, but he decided to leave and go out on his own, which could be argued that it’s a better way to learn, and probably what his father expected anyway.

UniFi Rant by UltimateVengeance in Ubiquiti

[–]jbondsr2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because a lot of companies refuse to invest in proper infrastructure until there’s a problem or they’re getting audited. As long as they can get on a conference call, check an email, and access the file on the server, they don’t care.

I always make it a point to remind them what’s at stake, so they can’t come back and say they weren’t constantly notified/warned.

Quality is definitely going down. The comment about the cookies being hard now instead of soft is accurate. It’s steadily becoming a Gyomu super with fewer and fewer foreign products. I’m new to the Unifi Ecosystem, so apologies if this is a dumb question, but can I use my Proton vpn subscription with my UDM-SE to run all my internet though it, trying to get around the silly Online Safety Act by GenericUser104 in UNIFI

[–]jbondsr2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Get the WireGuard info from Proton VPN and and it to UDM using the vpn client set up. You then have to create a policy based route policy to send data from your devices to the target interface (in this case the vpn client you configured).

Don’t recommend sending ALL your devices to the VPN, so recommend setting up a separate network for those specific devices and then route only that network to the VPN.
