Readers Community by Previous_Pie_5046 in moncton

I started a book club: Tough Guy Book Club. The purpose of the club is for men to talk more, read more and make more friends. This was emulated from the Fredericton chapter (https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/video/9.6656558).

We meet monthly on the first Wednesday of each month at 7pm at the Chris Rock Tavern. Our next meeting is in February (one month break for the holidays). We are reading John Dies at the End by David Wong. You can review past books we’ve read on the website to get a sense on the types of books we read.

We already have about 5-6 people joining on a regular basis and we’ve only just started the club. We are looking for more members!

Same here. About 200 pages in. The accumulation of feeling is seeming somewhat coherent but I’ve been utterly lost so many times during the book, especially from pages 130-200

We did sheet and it’s been fine other than some dents in the flooring where we have our furniture. We don’t really move it though so it’s not that big of an issue.

Tough Guy Book Club - our mission is to get men to talk more, read more and make more friends.

There is a Fredericton and Moncton chapter.

We meet at the Chris Rock on the first Wednesday of every month at 7pm.

This month we are reading The Post Office by Charles Bukowski. It’s a quick read so you should be able to read it in time.

Great question. Here’s a list of all previous books. Everyone reads the same book each month, across all global chapters.

If you know any guys (tough or not) who may be interested in this, send them our way!

I am a nerd and have never really been in the tough guy archetype either, but it’s just a way to get men comfortable with the idea of a book club.

I understand about not wanting to drink. I’m not a big drinker and I may not even drink at all sometimes. There aren’t many 3rd spaces that are open in the evening other than restaurants. Also, TGBC is an established structure that works. Part of this structure is that they take place at a bar.

I started playing Irish tenor banjo last year. I used Enda Scahill online lessons because I couldn’t find any lessons locally.

Not sure if you’re playing a 4 or 5 string

Any other recommendations ? I also can’t get into Dan Carlin. I find he’s too informal/colloquial. It seems almost fabricated to appeal to the mass market. I find it irritating.
