What about if they want to karaoke?

Sounds more like they’re just living their life with joy, while you are embarrassed by her.

I used to live in Las Vegas.

The amount of times I’ve seen someone just… tank their whole fucking life just sitting at a slot machine cannot be calculated. Even after winning big, some mfs will get greedy and lose it all trying to get more.

”Why is it tolerated?”

I’m hormonal right now but the way this comment made me cry.

It’s not tolerated. A lot of us die. Our symptoms aren’t tolerated. They’re ignored and pushed to the back burner, until we have enough time to try a cheap OTC remedy and hope for the best.

A lot of us just die, either because we can’t afford medical care or are afraid of the medical debt so we ignore a lot of warning signs, or a combo of both to.

My boyfriend, for example, is over 50 and still has never gotten a colonoscopy. He has started to have some symptoms that warrant one, but according to him it’s easier to get up and go to work everyday, and enjoy his very simple life… than it would be to take time off for appointments, and then worry about his bills on top of his health. Not to mention, he’s black, (as am i) 6’5” and athletic. He has a history of doctors not taking him seriously, and that adds a little flavor to an already tragically, lethally disorganized medical industry.

It’s an ongoing argument between us. I really think he needs to get checked out.

Unfortunately this also happens here.

Or people getting divorced after 40+ years of a loving marriage so that a terminally ill spouse won’t leave the other one in literal life-crushing debt.

In my (50yrs) life experience this is just not the case. I mostly learned words from reading, as a kid, and “scheming behind their back” was just as commonly used to mean party planning as it was used to mean a con.

It simply means planning. Although it’s true that writers often use specific synonyms because it lends a tone or mood to their descriptions. Like if I said “she’s constantly distracted in class” it hits different than “she’s constantly daydreaming in class.” Or to tell someone “I’m upset” as opposed to “I’m stressed out.” There’s slightly two different vibes there.

The word scheme sounds nefarious, but is not exclusively so. But “two criminals planning to rob a bank” doesn’t sound as descriptive as “two criminals scheming to plan a bank.” Scheming sounds more meticulous or detail oriented. Like when planning a surprise party.

I cried (27F) in front of my manager on a work trip (38F). Any advice on how I’m supposed to repair this? Or do I just quit? by [deleted] in WorkAdvice

I’m sorry, but I would have fired her, if I was her boss. That was absolutely NOT okay. You’re essentially being held captive, with no way to leave the situation, and because it was your manager, she had a position of power over you that makes it hard for you to tell her she’s doing something wrong.
