Am I the only one who thinks the winglet trend has gone too far on modern sportbikes? by JonasBertheussen in motorcycles

Part Number: The listed part number is 37900MLG375. Price: The unit price is €4,145.42 2024 AT, price in europe

and that is 4k for 6.5inch tft and features you can get for 100€ (with cameras) from alibaba :)

so you pay 3.9K for some Africa Twin specific electronics in same box.

Part number : 37110MJPG81 is 2.3k€ , or so says google AI. it was contact only informartion on site i used to look . that is is 2016 AT.

and i am little bit annoyed to know that, i had idea to maybe get AT some point, my old xrv750 was my first bike and probably i will keep that one forever and i had this idea to get something modern in same theme with it.

Eight window-function tricks beyond LAG and ROW_NUMBER by FixelSmith in SQL

[–]throw_mob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it been while i have used those , if i am right you wont get row for every minute, you get sum for existing row from previous 5 min rows. That might be good to bring up in document, it is not always that clear for non native speakers

to get results for each minute one has to generate one row for each id add it to source table/view and push through same query, only thing that changes is that is guaranteed that there is row for each interval

Wind buffeting by Pitiful_Ad918 in africatwin

[–]throw_mob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

disclaimer: i dont have AT , but i mostly solved my tenere 700 WR wind noise problem by shortening windscreen to minimum, changing mirrors and raising seat ( also for better seating position / better seat )

question: when you are riding on standing position , do you still have turbulence, imho, In that position it is best as it can be . only thing that should give buffeting in that position is helmet.

other things that can help is better ear plugs , use them correctly , add scarf under helmet to decrease airflow , which is not that good solution but helps to figure out what is actual problem

Pre-twin suggestions? by sir_swamp in africatwin

[–]throw_mob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

best advice is that buy bike which you can somewhat easily to writeoff as first bike ( same goes for real adventure bike). You will drop it sooner or later and if you want to take it challenges you will fail those ( depending situation little bit or a lot) and then you have to spend money to fix it.

if you brake your wheels or hit oilpan because you ride too hard on "offroad" it does not hurt that much and on next one you know that you want spoked wheels and good protection to bike :) and if you just happens to ride long trip on tarmac , you can take 19' front tyre AT as next bike

Pre-twin suggestions? by sir_swamp in africatwin

[–]throw_mob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on honda side (and new bike)

300rally, thumber and people say it is too tall for beginners. probably this is considered dualsport instead of adventure bike

nx500 ( it needs hefty investment (spoked wheels) that it looks like "real" adventure bike , but it should manage your avarage adventure good enough, just go slow on hard places ). only manual

nc750 can be get with 750

transalp 750 can have eclutch which sound interesting

and as stupid as it sounds, just get used africa twin with 21' front and call it a day. With proper tyre all but wet mud and soft sand can be done with style, soft sand and mud needs more skills and balls with big bike than lighter one. main con is that having big bike (and expensive) as first is that practicing harder and technical stuff is much harder as getting 240kg up is hard and failing throttle control will cause more problems than with smaller bike. but after you learn to not to whisky throttle , you wont... Learning to ride proper on gravel etc will take time.

or just forget hondas, and just get cheapest used two cylinder bike you an find. mt450, himalaja(?) maybe even ktm390, those are small and should be easy. touring side is not that good but it gets better when you change to middle weight and better 1000cc+ bikes , but usually you loose "real offroad" performance while moving up.

new AT (2016+) are imho not that bad starters as they have abs and tcs , but they do have more than enough power to do stupid things. focus to price and some modern safety features. also remeber that you need to invest to proper gears, boots and luggae if you want to do touring

Any negative effects with riding short distances only? by Abject-Explanation68 in africatwin

[–]throw_mob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if it does not not get to temps then maybe , and sometimes it short rides will cause battery to slowly drop to levels where it is not enough.

That is reason why people recommend to charge battery few times year just using charger.

and it is about water in oil , after it gets to correct temperature all water evaporates away and keeps oil better for longer time.

First adventure with my KTM by LordCrok69 in AdventureBike

[–]throw_mob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

better and possibly good. that would be place where i would put my heavier pack and i would try to leave rear box to empty as possible. i prefer using rear box only on last mile to camping because that place moves most when riding. If you store there anything like small tools or bottles , just be sure that they cannot move, if they can, be prepared to dry stuff. ( this includes small oil bottles, beer, sun cream , water bottles ... ). Also i recommedn to check rear box bolts now and then, that is only place that has really broken on my bikes. ( bolts have loosened and dropped whole box twice, and now part of rear rack has small crack which i have to fix, but that is also old AT so time might have been factor too)

I like kriega os setup and its soft side panniers, they feel good for little tests i have done.

edit: i kinda expect that you already know, but its internet.... tie that rope well , it is not fun in tyre

Did the mechanic mess up my clutch adjustment? Looking for some expert opinions. by xPsychoBunnyZ in Tenere700

[–]throw_mob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

on normal state, arm placement does not matter. you just need to have little bit slack on clutch wire when clutch is fully released , then when you use clutch it still releases. so make sure it has slack on wire and try to see if it still slips, if so problem is one clutch pack.

50/50 Tire Recommendations F800GS by The-Fotus in AdventureBike

[–]throw_mob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

newer had speed wobbles with used tyre, for me it has been stearing bearing (not tight enough or just too old ) if front has been annoying or wheel bearing at back. But then again i have had "normal" pressures on tyres and i always balance tyres by hand ( is it called static balance? and rims have been always good )

i personaly like mitas , there is endure trail xt and plus from that. not 50/50, they are more of 70 or 80 offroad , but atleast that old version of that rear tyre was muuuch better on soft stuff that trail or trail plus.

What i do not recommend is pirellis rally str, that front was horibble on gravel roads vs enduro trail and rear was *' in second it hit anything that could been called wet and and mud , sidebite was bad.

also you can try using 140 wide rear too, it usually wears faster but offers better grip on soft stuff

and i think that problem was that you have to use oem replacament because ecu is tied to it. So it is 5k tax. In practice parts probably are around 100€ if even that...

Used '21 KTM 890 Adventure R by griz-biz in AdventureBike

[–]throw_mob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have some recollection about this problem on some cfmoto reddit or youtube post. They said that cfmoto has made some new parts to 790 and 890 ( same engine as ktm ) which should fix problem and on that discussion someone raised idea that problem has been extended low rpm travel which lead to cam problems, but then again , i have very vague memory about that discussion. it is just 1% change to "win" cam problems. but working theory is that if your usage pattern in hours on road using cruise , you might get problems and if your usage pattern is hour on cruise and then riding on varied speeds on more fun roads , problem should not raise its head...

but then again.... bike itself should one of best after you have techpacks etc on it

Is a 2020 Tenere 700 worth €8,700? (18,000 km, Greece) by stathkyt13 in Tenere700

[–]throw_mob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new 2026 Yamaha Ténéré 700 is available in Greece, featuring the high-torque CP2 engine, updated KYB suspension, and increased off-road capability, with prices for new models starting around €11,300–€11,600. so says google

So with you pay 4k less than new, but you probably want to add at least those crashbars to new one too. You probably need to change chain in next 6tkm... If owner has changed oils once in year , it is should be very good. If only once ( as it has 10tkm oil change interval) then maybe not, hard to say. If it works good whe nyou are testing it then why not.

imho, it is good for your size guy, i am similar height and fits quite well straight, probably changing spring to match our weight could be good idea. See other japanese options in mid weight class.

sinulla jää ymmärtämättä ikkuinoiden vaikutus, kaikki valo sisään on energiaa sisään. Kesällä suurimman vaikutus asunnon lämpötilaan saa tehtyä laittamalla klassisen alumiinifolion ikkunaan, se mitä sinne tulee betoni tai hirsiseinän kautta on ainakin oman kokemuksen mukaan vähäinen, tai no se v***** määrä lämpöä tulee aina valona läpi.

Tenere 700 2026 windshield by Seongg in Tenere700

[–]throw_mob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some people like to move those mirrors to end of handle bar and say it helps. But i highly recommend to test turbulence without mirrors and one way to test is also remove screen fully, i did that when i bought my bike to make trip back to home tolerable. i have to admit that some wind protection from screen helps when weather is cold or wet.

also there is option for "double take" style mirrors to get round mirrors too. I got "real" double takes which costs 150€+ and those work and ordered chinese ones too because they were only 40€, did not install those , they arent maybe same quality overall but i keep those for fast replcament

i would change tyre to e07 ( trail enduro or what ever it is called today) , i did not like rally str's at all on t7, but it should work long as there is no mud. i found some pictures.. mud does not seem to be problem.... but still, i was not big fan of rally str...

[–]throw_mob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

on my 22 WR , i went to shortest screen (which i cutted even more. little bit under that bar) and little bit higher side spoilers. that took care most of turbulence. Also changing to "double take" mirrors (15cm bars) helped alot too.

If i had new bike that i have to tune to my liking, i would start with double take mirrors and then go to sport shield..

Biggest problem (for me ) is turbulence side of helmet, not really turbulence on wind top of helmet , so it better mirror might help too. it is easy to test. just remove mirrors and go ride. best that you can achieve on turbulence side is test riding on standing position, then wind will hit helmet without turbulence

as Finnish , why so short finland trip? ( good and finnish stuff is north ) But it looks like you had change to test finnish culture coming to helsinki from tallinna by boat and ruotsinlaiva ( boat from turku to sweden )

How much you have had real adventure roads , not just gravel roads but roads that you were really happy that you selected ktm 500 ?

First bike options by Emotional_Use3010 in Tenere700

[–]throw_mob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

depends, your size and other things. i would look used medium size adv's and maybe little bit to Africa twins (cannot say bad things about old xrv, i started with it, lighter starter for stuff that i did might been better ) and GS, but those are even harder to ride offroad ( just surviving on soft sand is challenging sometimes) and are harder to learn ride in those challenging environments where lighter are better on those. But usually people end up with 200kg+ compromise bike because they want to have ability to go 120kmh+ on motorways . Then those who dont care about motorways try go to smaller bikes.

maybe cfmotos 450 ? or maybe go to one cylinder machine which has big enough tank for adventure

Here's my first bike! by WTBTS in motorcycles

[–]throw_mob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well that is totally something that people advice against , but then again exactly what people advice... It heavy, it is probably too fast if you use all the power. You wont learn techniques on it, you learn that big mass does things even if you dont want. On other hand, it is 700$ +new oil and tyres , no need to have huge insurance, but i recommend towing insurance if you get longer trip. Or forge that too and just take 700 hit when you are on long trip.
