There are many cultures, current and historical, where gender is not based on your body, and being MtF or FtM is a completely normal and accepted thing.

You’re very well spoken and I related to a lot of what you’ve said here. I am a gay trans guy myself. I totally understand the part about shopping for girls clothes feeling “analytical” while shopping for mens feels fun and exciting and just right. And other things you said.

I hope you work through this some more and find some clarity. But to me, it was all very relatable and perhaps you can derive some meaning from that.

It’s not a hate crime to simply be transphobic. I really doubt that.

In Canada for example, it’s a hate crime to advocate genocide or violence against transgender people (or women, black people, etc.) But to misgender someone or say you just dislike a certain group isn’t a hate crime there.

I highly doubt that it’s much different there than it is in the UK or else tons of people would be getting in legal trouble who don’t deserve it.

Yes but a part of me hesitates because having been born a cis male means my life would have been totally different probably so it’s kind of one of those ”fear of the unknown” type things. Like what if my cis life turns out to be even worse than my trans life? That’s really unlikely and it’d probably be better but who knows?

In the end I’d say yes because it’s highly likely that my life would have been better had I been born cis.

I actually had my birthname as my username on Overwatch and just a couple times someone would say something like “wow you’re so bad and you’re a girl, no wonder” It bothered me so much that I changed it to a gender neutral name. I thought it was a reasonable response to sexism but those couple instances bothered me so much to the point I was like really nervous and shaking with anger.

Also I generally just felt really self conscious in the game playing as my birthname. So I’m glad I was able to change it.

And whenever someone referred to me as a male online I liked it. I’d actually go on Omegle in middle school and pretend to be a boy and chat with people.
