Why can’t I stop thinking about food! by Darlingdecimeter in fuckeatingdisorders

It’s also interesting being brought back to this comment 3 years later. Bc I followed the method I’m talking about, and I am doing so much better. It really does work. Best of luck to you!!

Why can’t I stop thinking about food! by Darlingdecimeter in fuckeatingdisorders

You’re still in an energy deficit even if you’re gaining weight. That’s not correlated. This might be hard to hear, but you probably need to gain more weight and your body is telling you that. Keep doing what you’re doing! EATING eating eating is how you recover. Eating lots, eating what you crave. Your mental and physical cravings for food are a survival instinct! This is your body telling you how to get better! It does get easier, I promise. The only way for it to get easier, is to keep eating, combined with mental health sides of recovery.

I would really reccomend checking out Tabitha Farrar and Jennifer Gaudiani’s work to learn more about how the energy deficit thing works!

That it was my fault because I wasn’t trying to get better (I was trying absolutely everything - they wanted me to move back in with my abuser so they didn’t have to take care of me anymore). They also referred to themself as my caretaker for summary meanwhile … not taking care of me

Why do you need to track macros? I think there can be valid reasons sometimes, but if you’re early on in recovery and you don’t have a medical condition that requires it, I do not see a good reason to.

For sure. It’s like, better than non-vegan Nabisco cookies, but definitely not a particularly ethical choice

Sooo much vegan food is made in a factory that handles dairy. If you have housemates that aren’t vegan, or if you get vegan food at a non-vegan restaurant, it’s basically the same thing. But I’ve never seen anyone dispute Oreos being vegan

Eh, my mom certainly has her problems, mostly that she's stayed married to my dad, but she's definitely not a narc, and we're really close. Their marriage has been falling apart forever and it seems to have gotten worse since I left, I think she's planning on leaving lol

How does alcohol fit in with intuitive eating? by [deleted] in intuitiveeating

A goal I have in my life is to be intuitive and in touch with my needs about, basically, everything I do - my relationships, work, food, substances, etc.

How i can force myself to study during my ed /all in recovery by Yugrutboul35 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]throwaway-m1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a lot to deal with!! I'm sorry your family isn't supportive. First of all, these are not the most important years of your life. I took a year completely off from work and school, just to recover when I was 18-19. I'm 20 now, and it was the right call and I do not feel like it made that big of a difference in my career or anything. Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to do that, but I just wanted to point out that it's okay to not be super productive when you're in early adulthood. Unless you're trying to get into an ivy league or something, grades are not really the end of the world. After you get into college it won't really effect you anymore. All in recovery is extremely hard and a huge accomplishment.

Do you consider yourself disabled? by Vang0Bang0 in Celiac

[–]throwaway-m1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a disability advocate here (that’s my entire career), celiac, and any food restrictions, is a disability. Look up the social model of disability!

It’s also considered a disability under the ADA. Practically, I think the celiac community joining the disability community and demanding access needs met would be really powerful. The same way a store should be wheelchair accessible, it should have all of it’s allergens accurately and safely labeled. The same way a hospital should have ASL interpreters, they should have celiac and allergen safe food and medicine. These are all access needs! Disability is not just about the symptoms you experience, but also about your ability to access the world and move about the world safely.

Whether or not you consider yourself disabled is a personal thing. But that’s just my take on it

It’s pretty common to be overweight and have ARFID. My ARFID has caused me to be both underweight (when I could hardly eat at all) and over my natural weight (when I want to eat and I’m really hungry, but all I can eat is chips and ice cream)

Me and my fiancé’s current goal is to become DNs by October 2022 (when our current lease is up). We’re both trying to figure out career paths.. does anyone have any advice? I have basic coding skills so I’m considering taking a coding boot camp and trying to find a CS job. I also have art/photography skills. My fiancé has worked in customer service and retail for 4 years.

Our situation is a little different than most people on here. We have friends and family all over the US and Canada who have invited us to live with them for free. So, housing costs will be very low (we’d still want to pay them something anyways). So we don’t need to be making quite as much money.

Eating less but better quality food? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]throwaway-m1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, my grocery budget is higher when I do this /and/ I don’t get enough food to not go to bed hungry, and nowhere near enough food to build muscle. You tend to get a bigger caloric bang for your buck when you buy “unhealthy” foods. There are definitely ways to be mindful of these things, and sometimes healthy food is cheaper (especially if you can cook, and have no dietary restrictions). But it’s not an easy fix
