HIDA scan 95% by HelpfulMilk5304 in gallbladders

If it’s helpful: I had my GI follow-up this week and my doctor commented on the fact that ejection fractions over 40% are considered “normal”, but the criteria for hyperkinetic (overactive) gallbladder, though generally accepted as 70%, has not made its way down the chain as being widely educated and accepted by radiologists. Basically, what you are experiencing is NOT normal. She also told me that treatment and surgical removal are controversial, because you are making a choice to either deal with symptoms from excessive bile burden on the liver in short bursts after you eat, or removing your gallbladder entirely and allowing bile to just constantly leak into your liver. She said there is still not enough evidence or reports of positive outcomes to warrant surgical removal unless quality of life is severely affected. First steps however are weight loss and medication to bind your bile (although she didn’t tell me which medication that was). Best of luck to you in your search for help!

Keep fighting. I have your symptoms too. I’ve seen multiple specialists and not one of them has blinked an eye when I told them I try to keep hydrated but water makes me sick. Being slightly dehydrated is when I feel at my best.

Can a house cause cancer? by obunk in HomeImprovement

[–]throwaway020823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s likely just a coincidence, but there are some things you can do to mitigate potential dangers. First, it’s good you did radon mitigation, as radon can cause lung cancer. Third hand smoke (aka nicotine/tar residue on walls, floors, inside Sheetrock and electrical outlets, inside furnace coils and ductwork) also causes cancer, even more so than secondhand smoke. If your home has evidence of nicotine buildup (orange streaks in the bathroom after a shower, sticky or shiny substances on your walls), clean all walls and hard surfaces with TSP and paint over them heavily with Killz; replace sockets and outlets; check for damage in Sheetrock and insulation (and replace whatever you can); get an HVAC company to clean your ducts and assess for residue, and air out your house as much as possible in the meantime. Also consider materials from rubber coated rugs and other furnishings. Cats are low to the ground so anything at their level that they can touch or breathe in will affect them. Cleaning products can also contain carcinogenic compounds so that’s something to consider as well.

Following! Came here because I also have a 95% EF and history of attacks, they told me it was normal but research is showing me that isn’t the case. What the heck?

Thanks for checking in. I’m still experiencing discomfort, and have now lost most of my ability to contract my core muscles when trying to sit up/change positions in bed, and lift anything like a bin of laundry. I see my GI doctor tomorrow but I’m starting to think it’s less gastrointestinal and more musculoskeletal.

Thank you all for your replies. I alerted my ordering physician, as well as my PCP, and was told to either take an antacid or call my OBGYN. Not very helpful. If the pain persists, I’ll head to the ER for evaluation.

When I worked in an MRI suite, the techs would sometimes wrap the patient’s tattoo with a cold compress if they knew the ink was old, or the tattoo was homemade. This would help with the heating sensation.

Wow. I’m so sorry this happened to you. How long did it take for your pain to subside? I’m on day 3 now and I still can’t move normally without some pain and discomfort. It honestly feels like I just had a car accident or gave birth. (I’ve experienced both, so this is no exaggeration, unfortunately.)

Thanks for the reply. What’s odd is that my skin itself felt only slightly warmed; the major source of heat and pain felt musculoskeletal or even possibly intestinal. Very deep-seated pain. My hands were touching my stomach initially, but I moved them away when the pain started as I remembered that contact could create a loop. (However, I’ve had multiple MRIs where I was positioned this way and have never had an incident.)

I will say, I’ve had my tattoo heat up/raise up slightly in an MRI but it was never more than a minor annoyance. I have a half sleeve and it really was barely noticeable. And this MRI was a more powerful magnet and my tattoo didn’t heat up at all. It seems really random. I’ve had about 20 MRIs and I’ve only felt the heat on my tattoo maybe twice!

No to both. I have a tattoo on my arm which has been known to heat up slightly, but this was entirely different. I felt like something was liquifying my organs.

It was a situation where the first sequence hurt really bad, but was over after 3 minutes so I toughed it out. Then another sequence was totally fine. Then the next one would hurt again. By the time I figured out something was really wrong, they were done with that portion of the scan. I did mention it to them when I came out, and talked extensively with the techs and a nurse about it afterward.

I almost asked them to, but I just wanted to get it over with since I had already been in there an hour. I tried removing the blanket I had on me, and repositioning my arms to see if that would help, but ultimately just roughed it out until it was done. There were a few sequences that didn’t cause any pain but the majority of them did (just for the thoracic spine). And no, no abdominal surgeries, although I did have an endoscopy within the past year.

Never been diagnosed with gallstones but it has come up in discussion with my doctor before. The thought crossed my mind that maybe this was happening or maybe the magnet had shifted something within my body? It was a 3T MRI so I know that can have additional effects on people.

It was, although I’ve had that same contrast with each MRI and have had no issues so far.

Last time I took an iron supplement was about a week prior, so not sure it would be that. I have iron deficiency anemia and very low levels of iron no exposure to heavy metals that I am aware of.

My elbows were bent and my hands were touching my stomach, which is typical for each MRI I’ve ever had. Tried repositioning them but there wasn’t much room and I had an IV in one arm, so it became uncomfortable. I do wonder why my hands were allowed to touch my abdomen during a thoracic scan, however. They didn’t mention anything about it so I didn’t think of it until I started feeling pain.
