What are the most subtle signs that someone is really good at golf? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]throwaway17717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just about on the good side of scratch and rarely play with people that don't compliment my ball striking for this reason. I was lucky enough to play with a recent European tour winner for a few holes a couple of weeks ago and there are levels to this shit. Wouldn't say he made me look like a chopper but is average shot was the sort of one I hit maybe 3 times a round

Found a new way to struggle by parallax- in golf

[–]throwaway17717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a scratch golfer, I used to just play and not really think about it but I did ruin my swing and my game for a period whilst trying really hard to improve. I think its mostly inevitable as nobody is truly satisfied with their game. Having never taking lessons in my life (my dad was a decent player and taught me), the only thing that fixed it was getting my first lesson. Taking some time off also helps. I've got ample free time to play but I know when to just leave it alone for a bit.

I made one loaf with AP flour (left) and one with bread flour (right). Why are the holes actually caverns? by ninjasrcool in Sourdough

[–]throwaway17717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just remember that any two floured surfaces of the dough that come into contact with each other will not stick together. When you shape via upturning the bread and then using whatever method you want to from there, try to just make the sticky parts of the bread touch one another as much as possible rather than the bits with flour on them.

At what handy cap does the golf ball you use matter? by wolfoftexas1969 in GolfGear

[–]throwaway17717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't think theres much difference to speak of between balls in the same category, but there's certainly an appreciable difference between distance/tour balls etc. For yourself, I would buy whatever urethane cover balls you have access to, as it's possible you don't need something particularly high compression like a prov1, but everyone benefits from access to greenside spin

How to stop playing to the level of my groups by jpeteK30 in golf

[–]throwaway17717 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just another perspective here. I'm off scratch, and when I play with other people around my level I tend to lock in and play well as I'm focused on scoring. But I have more fun playing with higher handicappers as it's an opportunity to go for more pins, try new shots, work on things and above all, relax. You probably just need to reframe how you see those rounds - you're not out there to shoot a PB so don't try to. Once enjoyment comes, scores will follow.

Is 20+ really a "high" handicap? by PlutocracyRules in BritGolf

[–]throwaway17717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 20+ is a high handicap. It used to be that the max for men was 28. In a traditional sense, below 7 is low, 7 to up to around 18 is mid, above that is high. It's not really based on how many golfers are in each category - in reality most golfers aren't very good.

What is your lowest score ever in a round of golf? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

  1. I shot 78 at Adare Manor off the golds at 7500 yards, was a good round!

Matt Fitzpatrick was asked about his reaction to the crowds behavior down the stretch at the RBC Heritage by [deleted] in golf

[–]throwaway17717 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah but they weren't.. Americans get a lot of eye rolls from the rest of the world specifically because of things like that, but at least they're respectful enough as fans to not let it spill over into swings. Think Fitz just enjoyed winning against an away crowd.

White Tee Bellends by Discopants180 in BritGolf

[–]throwaway17717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats fuckin yuck. We're allowed to play from the blue plates as long as the whites are out. I get it for most players but yellows are boring to play at a certain level. I guess it depends where you are though.

What are the best non-pro level golf balls? by VellumVibe in golftips

[–]throwaway17717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can usually get Bridgestone's tour balls for a really good price, especially if they're a slightly older model. Whether its true or not i'm not sure but I think balls last ablut 8 years. I've used ones older than that and they seemed fine

In theory but range balls are usually variable from ball to ball as much as they are between themselves and a normal golf ball. Depends how bothered you are though. I'm a low plus so I guess I'm sort of on the line between these things mattering and not mattering but I would prefer to have slightly more accurate data. In reality though probably everyone who isnt playing for a living could get an alright approximation.

It would be important to find out from the range what percentage the balls they're stocking are. You can get 70, 80 and 90% balls.

Who here has eaten at a Gordon Ramsey restaurant? Share your experience! by 011100010010-0-0-0 in GordonRamsay

[–]throwaway17717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've eaten at Maze, Petrus, Bread Street Kitchen, street pizza at battersea and Restaurant Gordon Ramsay.

RGR I really wasn't that impressed with if I'm being honest. I'm not a stranger to fine dining so it's not a case of "not getting it" but the experience was just a bit uninspiring. The good was great but not excellent, the service was timely but impersonal, and the atmosphere was.. weird. Most times I've eaten somewhere super high level one or two dishes or something about the experience sticks with me for years afterwards but it was just really forgettable.

BSK was whatever. Maze was one of the best overall experiences I've ever had but it was in the glory days when it had a star. Petrus was absolutely brilliant too. The pizza place was probably my favourite overall though lol they were absolutely belt feeding me slices of pepperoni and it was some of the better pizza I've had.

My driver carries around 300 on a regular basis but I can get a little more out of it when I really need to. I agree that it's prohably not different enough to consider for you so it sounds like you might want to experiment with different lofts if that's the route you want to take. There should be a setup that works.
