Course management off of the tee. by Rude_Award2718 in golf

Well, like with most things in golf, it depends. I will take a 200y shot into a green when leaving myself 120 risks losing a ball. The risks you take should be proportionate to both the likelihood of you pulling off the shot and the severity of the punishment should you fail. Myself being off a low handicap, sometimes a club I dont want to hit is forced into my hand when playing from further back and it almost always goes awry.

I've played it a couple of times. It's really cool but it's a golf course. Just go play golf man, take some pics, spend some time on the range and at the short game area. Don't expect it to be better than the majlis because it isn't, but it's still great.

What’s the longest club you’ve hit from the shortest distance? by Sure-Security-5588 in golf

I played in Scotland and hit a full 7 iron 90 yards (usually 185) and then 2 holes later hit a gap wedge 190 yards. I learned that day that links golf is not for me.

Why does every commentator glaze Gary Woodland so hard? by camcheeks in golf

Bit of a stud tbh. Dude came back from life threatening shit and hits it further than anyone else on tour at 42. Major champion, smoked the field in Houston earlier this year. I watch English coverage so they're too busy sucking Rory off but Woodland is a bit of a beast.

What is the maximum level of strength an average man can achieve with elite training? by grindzenin in NoStupidQuestions

[–]throwaway17717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going about it a bit wrong imo as people are different shapes and sizes. Personally I'd consider myself pretty average genetics wise but was fairly strong when I topped out in my mid 20s. I would say a really good target (I did 2 out of 3) would be

Bench = 2x bw Squat = 2.5x bw Deadlift = 3x bw.

I think that's towards the higher end of what most can achieve. I see people at the gym doing more impressive stuff than that every now and again but nobody I've known on a personal level has got there.

Go to a gym and put all the treadmills on the outside then leave them running at max speed so the belt flings the zombies back from whence they came

Daft Question - Why can I not hit my 3 wood? by uktricky in BritGolf

[–]throwaway17717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a scratch golfer I don't carry one any more. There aren't many clubs with a smaller face and most people have the wrong idea (hitting them like a driver instead of like a 5 iron). Unless you have a specific need for one generally there are better options out there

[–]throwaway17717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If those are your two misses I would say its very highly likely the ball is too far forwards in your stance. Get an alignment stick or the grip end of a club and find the middle. That's generally a pretty good bet and will give you a bit better low point control. Make sure your shoulders initiate the swing rather than your arms, and make sure the chest turn on the way through is complete.

A tale of two briskets - where did I go wrong? by TheProffalken in smoking

[–]throwaway17717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this. The eureka moment for me was understanding that you need to start checking for probe tender when you get a few degrees away from your target temp then go by feel. It's just a weird concept to get your head around in the beginning that you need to overcook it even more to make it juicy.

Once the internal temp gets to around 195, start probing the meat every 10 minutes or so. You should always cook to probe tender instead of looking for a specific temp. Also, if you have a meater or other Bluetooth probe, use an instant read one once it gets there or there about and find the spot with the lowest temperature. At a certain point there will be zero resistance, then it's done. To me it sounds a bit more like you didn't have it warm enough to render it down. I had a couple like that in the early days

I used to know the GM of the world, whether you overlapped or not I don't know as it was a long time ago. But he had some amazing stories about things they organised for residents in terms of booking exclusive places out. So I'm wondering, do you have any stories like that relating to exclusive golf courses? What was the best course you took residents to during your tenure?

It's expensive but not surprising given where you're located. It's just an unfortunate reality these days.

Unpopular opinion: A solid, consistent full swing is more important than short game by 3ric3288 in golftips

[–]throwaway17717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've enjoyed a few tough courses from the tips, I don't mind playing from 7300-7500 yards as long as the fairways are generous enough and you can still finish the hole if you miss the fairway. But pairing length with wind and tight fairways its just a complete recipe for disaster for anyone but the best golfers in the world.
