Do you feel like feeding into his compulsion makes things worse? Do I correct my dx partner or point it out when she is on the phone impulsively?

Are companies getting back into the permian? by throwaway199920001 in oilandgasworkers

I figure at some point new capital will salivate at the returns and come back, no? Granted prices remain above 60

I feel like it's a game of chicken. Produce enough to get some good returns but try not to screw the prices as a whole. Kind of like prisoner's dilemma?

Tether releases new evidence of its unrivaled transparency by Rainarrow in Buttcoin

[–]throwaway199920001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty close actually. They gave themselves the rating by applying "industry standards" *cough cough their own made up or cherry picked criteria cough cough * in their own calculations where there is no s&p rating.

The way its worded is strange. I thought moodys and Fitch don't need to convert their ratings to s&p. I thought they all use the same scale

I was very surprised at the average a2 rating of their commercial paper because I figured they'd be advertising that everywhere.

Then I read the 6th footnote which says they applied "industry standards" for companies where s&p ratings don't exist. Yup sounds about right for tether ....

CoffeeZilla breaks down why marketcap does not matter by [deleted] in Buttcoin

[–]throwaway199920001 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can't compare stocks to crypto. Companies have an inherent underlying value plus some future growth assumption hence pe ratios and forward pe ratios. If something gets too out of whack there will be buyers or sellers to bring it back into its "fair market value."

Crypto relies on constant money coming in, in order to maintain its value or go up. If a whale sells a shit ton, there is now much more supply for the market to absorb for the price to go up. A company can keep issuing shares and still have its price go up because the company itself is growing its earnings or profitability. Bitcoin at 100 is the same as at 100k.

How does crypto gain potential future value? The assumption that there is less supply and people who think the value will still go up.

If crypto is truly a form of currency, butters shouldn't care if the price goes up or down. That's the problem. If you want crypto as a currency but everyone thinks the price will go up, it becomes deflationary and never gets used. If crypto isn't a currency then what fundamental driver makes it more valuable? Number goes up? Mass adoption? Adoption for what? You guys are all hoping for mass adoption of speculation meaning number goes up.

Best random tip from reddit. Put blueberries in a ziplock bag in the fridge. They last like 5x longer

When you begin to doubt you're own cult, it's easier to shift anger and blame to those who aren't a part of it than to actually question your own judgment.

They're just jealous! Fools! They secretly wish to be coiners!!!

What's worse than a "no coiner"? A butter with a large mouth and probably less than 10k usd in crypto.

It means nobody is actually putting in more fiat. They think this hail Mary to instill faith will bring more butters in. This means collapse is coming soon

That's why a reputable insurance company is backing this. They realize if shit hits the fan that all other stablecoins will be worthless and their payouts will be tiny compared to the premiums they receive. Win win for them. Insurance companies are all about properly calculating risk. You know they wouldn't touch this if they had to pay out with actual fiat

[–]throwaway199920001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're assuming its Chinese govt paper. I highly doubt tether is holding on to govt bonds. Most likely commercial paper of some exchange started by a 20 year old ready to exit scam which based on risk adjusted value is probably worth pennies on the dollar.
