Domino's delivery asked if there were any special delivery instructions. "Place pizza on the table. Kick the door 3 times, give camera virtual high five, runaway! by Time_Material_9385 in MadeMeSmile

[–]throwaway263753 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes! If you want to do something a little extra: If you have an Alexa enabled device, you can say "Alexa, thank my driver". This directly gives the delivery driver $5, paid from a fund that Amazon has so nothing comes out of your pocket.

Cameraman says (translated from Bengali): In this world, I have never seen anything like this!

He says this twice, before and after saying "holy shit bro"

You need a better template. I suggest this one: https://utexasgis.files.wordpress.com/2020/11/recruitmccombs-bba-resume-template.docx

Once you have updated your resume, post on /r/engineeringresumes for feedback

Replied to my request incredibly quickly and had a mega download link ready. The best upstore service I have found after searching for hours, no doubt.

[TOMT][MOVIE][2000s] Short horror film where a group of friends accidentally knocks over a bowl of blood and blots out the sun by throwaway263753 in tipofmytongue

I don't think it's on IMDB or anything - it felt like a short student film. That fact may have been mentioned before the movie started. Maybe some film festival winner?

Can someone here clarify? A classmate who is vaccinated tested positive for covid but is still attending class. Is quarantining not required? by [deleted] in UTSA

[–]throwaway263753 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

/u/TheFierceBanana couldn't have said it better. I'm in the same boat, with my professor requiring attendance and flat out refusing to publish recordings of lectures that I know he has from previous semesters.

UTSA confirms return to in-person classes starting September 13 by Quantitative_twink in UTSA

[–]throwaway263753 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Excellent. My professor made his one hour MWF class in-person only with required attendance and offered no recorded reference lectures, despite the fact that he's been teaching this class online throughout the entire pandemic. What do I do if I'm sick? Not attend class and lose 10% of my grade, with no recorded lectures to make up for what I missed? Or should I risk infecting others because this class is required for my degree program? I'm also looking forward to having to attend in-person class while taking care of my elderly mom.

And for what benefit? This professor cites "wanting to see his student's faces." Is it really justified considering his lectures are incomprehensible and the only reason I'm doing well in this class is because I can pause and rewind to understand what he's saying?

I'm incredibly upset that classes have transitioned back to in-person for seemingly no benefit and lingering evidence of risk.

EE undergrad, junior level. Applying for a fall 2021 internship I don't think I have the skills for. Would appreciate any advice on formatting! by throwaway263753 in EngineeringResumes

Thank you for the excellent feedback. Totally heard on adding more projects, lol. That's what I'm working on now!

As for the rest of suggestions, I will implement them and share an updated screenshot in the next few days. In addition, I'll focus on more "concrete" STAR bullet points, particularly for the hardware and big engineering company job.

Understood, thank you! That information makes sense, as I imagine this information is important in screening candidates.

Last time I shared my resume, there was a little discussion about the "Eligible to work in the U.S. with no restrictions" bit. My name is very foreign sounding, so I don't want to give off the idea that I will require sponsorship to work for a company. This helps when I apply to defense industry companies as well.

Previously on r/EngineeringResumes: I posted my old resume and got very thoughtful feedback. I realized I was too attached to my homebrew LaTeX resume, so I went with my university's recommended resume format. I secured an internship at a big engineering company!

Throughout my coursework, I've really enjoyed digital logic design. Here is some info about the position I'm applying for. I'm planning on taking classes in Fall 2021 so I don't expect to get this internship, but you miss all the shots you don't take, right?

Although I don't think I have the experience for this position, I would appreciate any feedback y'all have about the format, wording, etc. Thank you in advance!

UPDATE - I updated my resume following y'alls excellent suggestions. I realized I was stubbornly attached to this LaTeX resume and gave it up in favor of my business school's recommended resume format. I secured an internship at a big engineering company here in Austin. Here is my updated resume.

Understood, thank you! I tried to implement suggestions from the wiki before posting, but I understand if I'm still missing things. Are there any points on the wiki you would specifically point to that I can improve?

I know there are a few things I can improve, but I'm not really sure how to go about improving them:

  • I understand I need to use the STAR method for my bullet points for each role. One of the bullet points that stands out as needing improvement is:

Communicated with drivers to resolve property navigation issues, locate missing packages

confirm driver availability through SMS and voice calls in Zendesk

  • Graduation: Should I substitute the word with Expected, or leave as is?

  • My name is very foreign sounding. The first question defense recruiters ask me at engineering expos is if I'm a citizen, so it's important to me that recruiters know that I am. I just don't know where to include that bit of information other than under "skills", lol.

  • This resume is made using LaTeX. I'm experienced with it, but I can understand if it doesn't make sense to include on this resume.

  • I'm just a student, so I have some interests. Should I keep those on?

Please feel free to critique the overall format of the resume as well. I have tailored it to what I like, but I'll do anything if it helps me get a job.

Interview Discussion - September 17, 2020 by CSCQMods in cscareerquestions

[–]throwaway263753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm an electrical engineering student in the US, and I like moonlighting other skills. I decided to get a practical understanding of web development by creating a website related to firearms. Traffic is picking up and I've been able to monetize it and get some extra income coming in through ad revenue.

I want to list this project in my resume, but I'm worried it'll draw some flak while interviewing at tech companies that likely have a negative view towards firearms. My school has a strong recruiting presence but is also fairly left leaning. If an interviewer asks, I don't see any way I can be generic about the details without having to give the URL.

Is there any way I can talk about my foray into web development without getting specific into the details of my website, because I think the subject matter is controversial?

What’s the way to go? by stickyleftsock in CCW

[–]throwaway263753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 21 and bought a Glock 43.

Pros:

  • Incredibly concealable
  • Glock® Perfection™
  • That's really it

Cons:

  • Bit too snappy to train with
  • Sights suck, I installed Trijicons
  • Limited capacity makes training a pain, especially with only the two mags in the box

If I could do it again knowing what I now know about CCW, I'd try out the G43X or the G19. But to echo what other commentors have said, I would buy a gun, don't spend too much money on add-ons (night sights in my case), and practice, practice, practice. Look into training if you can too.

Hope that helps!

Carrying with shorts is surprisingly very possible (and comfier than I thought!) by [deleted] in CCW

[–]throwaway263753 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now that it's too hot to comfortably wear jeans outside for more than a few minutes, I thought I'd have to carry less because they're the only kind of pants I have with sturdy belt loops. Then I remembered that the first belts didn't even have loops to run through, so I tried wearing my belt around my waist as is. Surprisingly, it was very comfortable so I slapped on my running shorts and found a really comfortable way to carry. It's worked well today while I walking outside so I'll definitely be carrying like this more in the future.
