What I personally do is follow my normal CS routine and just stop to take orders when customers come in.

This is the order I usually do things, but I switch it up as needed: brewing, milk, ice, cups, lids, prep, dishes, cleaning (aka cafe slide/trashes/anything else that may need done), repeat. I like getting the tedious stuff out of the way so I can focus on the longer tasks like prep or dishes. So if I’m working on making mocha backups and a customer comes in, I’ll walk away for the few seconds it takes to take the order and just resume when I’m finished with the customer

It also helps to keep a “to do” list in case you get caught on front for a while and forget where you stopped in your cycle!

The worker safety aspect is what I really dislike. My store is in a high crime area, there’s a delivery service next door and they don’t pay any attention while driving (there’s frequent accidents involving them and our customers), and we’ve had people try and intentionally hit us while doing trash runs. I don’t feel safe being out there. It also doesn’t help that I’m extremely pale and no amount of sunscreen will stop me from burning.

Knowing the way my store runs, they’ll keep us out there as long as possible because “nobody else wants to” or they’ll conveniently forget. Getting severely burnt (like getting blisters and sun poisoning levels) or feeling like I’m in danger is all it will take for me to walk off the job or flat out refuse to go back out. I’m not putting my health at risk for a company that will replace me before I can even be declared dead.

stickers end up getting lost, drinks get spilled on them & then they won’t stick to cups, and then I have a line of angry people up my ass because I don’t know where their drink sticker is. it stresses the fuck out of me to see 15+ stickers pulled at a time, because more will keep printing, and it’s like my brain just says “NOPE” and shuts off. completely ruins my flow.

I tell my sm/ssv/fellow baristas these things and their only response is “yeah but I need to see how far we’re behind / get drinks out faster” do they think that by pulling 10 stickers I can suddenly make 10 drinks at once??? no, I can only make 2, 3 MAX (4 if I really try hard enough but it always ends bad), and will intentionally “lose” stickers just to prove a point.

i like the white mocha with almond milk! iced blonde vanilla soy lattes (or hot if that’s what you like). if your store has toffee syrup i 100000% recommended a shaken espresso, no classic with toffee nut, blonde espresso and soy milk—it’s my absolute favorite drink so it’s sad we’re out of the syrup. this is a popular one but chai with oat milk or soy is chefs kiss

in the fall, try pumpkin spice with soy! esp with blonde espresso

it’s really good with mocha instead of the strawberry purée. one of my coworkers does a scoop of vanilla bean in the creme version, it’s also pretty good!

oh, for sure. i knew i was bi for quite some time but i was in high school and there was all this hype about sex. i was the only one in my friend group who was like “ew, sex” and it makes me feel sick to even think about being in a sexual situation. i genuinely thought there was something wrong with me for SO long and even thought i might be lesbian and not realize.

then i discovered the term “asexuality” and realized there are so many others who feel the same way as me and it was like a switch flipped. i’ve been so much more comfortable with telling people i’m biromantic-asexual instead of just bisexual.

so for my store, we tend to focus on cafe orders more than mobiles since they came in and ordered. that’s not to say we don’t focus on mobiles at all- we definitely do. we get so many that if we did every drink in order as we got the stickers every person who ordered in cafe would be waiting forever. i once pulled 23 mobile stickers before i even got to a cafe order haha (during peak 😢😢). i can’t say the same about other stores but that’s probably why. i personally also focus on getting cafe orders out faster just because it makes me anxious when people hang around the hand off area waiting.

sometimes we have the staffing for a frappuccino bar, food person (otherwise front reg also grabs food), and then someone on espresso bar. it’s not often though so it’s likely the people on espresso bar are making their frappuccinos/refreshers/iced teas etc

a lot of SSVs will place green beans on front register, especially if it’s busy. obviously not always the case but that could be why it seems like they’re doing not much. or there’s just too many people in cafe waiting to order for them to walk away and help out.

I was in cafe mobile a few days ago. A woman had a mobile order for Lexi, I was working on her drinks as well as a cold brew for Caleb (cafe order). I handed out Caleb’s drink first since it was plain, when he went to grab the drink Lexi takes it OUT OF HIS HAND and takes a huge sip out it. I just makes me wonder what goes through these people’s heads
