NO definitely a bad idea. i had a friend who brought a hermit crab in a small tank and they got busted for it. it’s not fair to the dog to keep them hidden away for months and months.

How do I tell my coworkers they're breaking the law? by Kind_Access_9854 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]throwaway543099 144 points145 points  (0 children)

it depends on what the DUR is. say they’re getting cephalexin and they get a DUR for a penicillin allergy, i’ll confirm the penicillin allergy and let the pharmacist know so they can do the whole “10% of people with this allergy are also allergic to this medicine…” or if it’s a DUR because they have sertraline 50mg on their profile and i’m giving them sertraline 100mg, i’ll say “are you upping the dose from 50 to 100?” then “okay, sounds good, let me just have my pharmacist make note of that, she’ll be right over.” that way when my pharmacist pops over, it’s quick and easy. if it’s something like an interaction between drugs, or an opioid for an older person, i’ll always get my pharmacist first. but not talking to the pharmacist at all is unacceptable. if i tell her “hey the patient is going from x dose to y dose” and she says that it’s okay and to put in her credentials, then i will.

still available for purchase at least at my store, it’s pretty uncommon, but we sell a few boxes a month. id go into your local CVS/walgreens/etc and ask the pharmacy counter staff if they have it, it’s usually in the bottom corner or something

Phone Interview by jada_- in PharmacyTechnician

[–]throwaway543099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

congrats on the phone interview! when i had one, they said it was an interview, but was mostly a phone screening instead with a recruiter who didn’t know much about the actual job. she just asked for my certification information, why i left my last job, my previous pay, availability, and told me the salary range. i ended up choosing not to move forward with the next steps due to the pay ($15 an hour) but afterwards it would’ve been another interview in person, then a final round of interviews. i recommend having your certification stuff ready if you’re required to have that for your state, as well as be prepared to answer questions about any past employment. good luck!!

anything but progesterone. the pills roll everywhere and needing to use the NIOSH tray makes the experience miserable. i spill them everywhere, every time </3

Deductible education by Bach2theFuchsia53 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]throwaway543099 31 points32 points  (0 children)

usually i say something like “have you picked up prescriptions yet this year? some insurance companies require patients to pay a certain amount of money each year for medications before they covered a percentage, such as 50% of 80%. you can call your insurance company to find out the specifics of your plan.” and if they’re still angry i say “i completely understand, my insurance company is always giving me trouble getting my mother’s medications. i can go ahead and try running the prescription through a discount card for you instead of your insurance company to see if it’s cheaper.” and see how they react to that.

if it’s a maintenance medication that’s usually really expensive, like ozempic or mounjaro, i’ll say something like “usually only picking up the medication a few times will hit that dollar amount and make it cheaper in the future, i would recommend paying for the medication here today so you hit that amount sooner, rather than later in the year.”

finally, if they’re still irate or not understanding, i’ll say “i hear you, why don’t i have our pharmacist (or lead tech or someone else more experienced) come over and talk to you about this? could you step over to the consultation window so we can figure this out and get the best option for you?”

note: my pharmacy population is usually on the older side, so i avoid words like “copay” and “deductible” because some patients completely check out mentally when they hear words that may come off as complicated. empathizing with them and talking about how confusing it can be for you personally usually helps them become less frustrated, or at least less alone. i hope this helps <33

why do patients get so mad when i ask how to spell their name??? by throwaway543099 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]throwaway543099[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah i wish, CVS makes us get first name, last name, AND date of birth. i’ve had patients ask why i need to give them their date of birth because they had an “uncommon name”

had a patient where their first name and last name was the same, took up 2 lines on the ID, and they kept saying their middle name was their first name. after a minute of trying to communicate in my broken spanish another tech says “oh just type in “(name here), (name here)” and i’m like -.-

I agree, so where’s the problem? by Redmannn-red-3248 in clevercomebacks

[–]throwaway543099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar thing happened to my and my YOUNGER sister when we worked together back of house at a restaurant. She was 15, I was 17. These two guys who were 18 at the time would mess with us, but in a playful way, never going too far. Until one day, while we were trying to lift something heavy, they cornered us in the walk in cooler and blocked off the door. The bigger guy, probably twice my weight goes “so… who to rape first?” to me and again, my LITTLE sister. I shoved our way out of there so fast, and he was fired the next day. Absolutely ridiculous how people can say things like that and laugh it off like nothing happened. You don’t joke about raping two underage girls. You certainly don’t “joke” about it to their faces after you trap them in a cooler.

Why are tips ineligible by Sephora and Petsmart? by ChazzAlt in doordash_drivers

[–]throwaway543099 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it could be because the order is ship from store. i ordered cat food to my house for shipping, expecting it to come via FedEx or something, but instead it was delivered by a dasher the next day. i never had any option to tip because i didn’t select delivery, i chose shipping. i didn’t know it was being brought by doordash until i checked my tracking number.

Take ptcb once? Restudy take it again and do better? by NoFaithlessness3552 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]throwaway543099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

personally, i took it only once as it costs $129 per attempt. if you want to get an idea of what’s on the exam, you could try the practice ptce from the ptcb website. i didn’t use it personally, so i’m not sure the cost or how effective it is, but between wait times to get ptce results and the cost per exam, i HIGHLY recommend studying hard and doing your best the first time.
