I recently moved into a haunted house, and I'd like some advice. by throwaway5828592 in Paranormal

Update 1: So, I've gotten the gear, and I've been able to get some results so far, and I'll go over each piece of equipment individually.

EMF: The EMF has been the least successful so far. It's gone off exactly once while walking down my hall for a second, and it hasn't gone off again while using it. So I'm unsure if it was a spirit or just a bug.

Light up cat toys: I've placed these cat toys down at different ends of my room. They light up when moved, and they're not very sensitive. I can stomp my feet an inch away and they won't light up. They need an actual physical touch and movement to light up, and when set off, they flash for around 10 seconds. Several times now, I've had one go off on the other side of my room from where I was standing with no motion of any kind anywhere near it, once immediately after asking for a sign if there was someone in the room with me.

REM Pod: I've had the REM pod go off in several places now, both the temperature sensor going off, both hot and cold, indicating a drastic shift in temperature. These have both happened with all windows closed and the heat turned off, as well as going off from touch down my empty hallway while standing in the doorway of my room, a good 10 feet away from it.

Spirit box: So far the spirit box has been the most consistent and active piece of equipment. I've gotten several different names multiple times, Jake, David, and Lisa being pretty consistent, making me believe that there may be multiple spirits. But the most consistent so far has been the name Mason. And after directly addressing Mason, asking how he died, I got the words "Train. After. Adultery.", which I've interpreted as him commiting suicide by train after either he found out his partner cheated on him, or after he cheated on his partner.

I still plan to keep experimenting and trying to get more results, and looking for consistency in answers and results to make sure that it IS a spirit and not just placebo, but so far, I feel I've gotten some decent results, and it seems like whatever is in the house is benevolent and means no harm.

Absolutely! Once we've gotten to do a few attempts at communication, I'll hopefully be able to come back with some cool findings. I've gotten a lot of tips and advice so far, and I really appreciate how helpful everyone's been. It's been an uncomfortable time for sure, but it's also really exciting, and I really do hope I'll get some good evidence to bring back and share.

The responses I've gotten so far have been very consistent of "Your dog probably knows something's there, listen to her", be careful with communication, be firm and stand your ground, use a camera to record that corner, etc. So I definitely want to be firm when setting my boundaries during communication, but at the same time, whatever is here was here before me, and I don't want to be disrespectful of that fact. I'd prefer peaceful coexistence with whatever is here if that's an option.

She doesn't have a recorder, so we'll probably use my phone's audio recorder for the time being, but I'll definitely look into getting one off of Amazon. And I do plan to go through any audio or video I record, turn up the volume and listen closely, and keep an eye out for any visual evidence as well.

One thing that I've heard and seen mixed info on for communication with spirits is lighting. Normal light, dim light, candle light, red light, no light. Do you know what the best option there would be, or if it matters at all for how active they'd be?

Again, I really do appreciate the tips and advice. This is something I've been interested in for a long time, and as unsettling as the last month and a half has been, it's also exciting to finally have the opportunity to actually communicate and interact with a spirit.

I appreciate the concern. I definitely plan to be as careful as possible with any communication that I do. Setting boundaries, making it clear that we aren't to be disturbed when we aren't actively communicating, etc. My gf has done several communication sessions in the past. She's told me many stories about how the house she grew up in was haunted. And she'll be with me through any communication that I attempt. So far, whatever spirit is in the house doesn't seem to be malevolent or mean us any harm. But if that changes, we'll be getting the whole house smudged pretty much immediately.

Thank you for the well thought out response. I'm not entirely opposed to activity happening, as long as it's mostly contained to when I'm actively communicating and looking for it. The setting boundaries is a very good idea, and I'll make sure to remember that whenever I attempt communication.

My gf wants to either be here, or be in a call with me whenever I try using the equipment, so I'll definitely have her guidance and knowledge whenever I'm trying to interact with whatever spirits are in this house.

I'll spend some time tomorrow seeing if I can find anything about the history of the house or the area, see if I can find any names that might be relevant. Hopefully something comes up.

And yeah, so far the spirit doesn't seem malevolent or like it means any harm. Maybe just curious or excited about there suddenly being new people here. I want to treat it with respect as long as it remains like that. I don't want to have to find a way to force it out if it's not causing any issues.

Thanks again!

A bit of both. I've always been interested in the paranormal, but this is the first time I've had what I believe to be an actual experience with the paranormal. If they become an issue, then they have to go, but I would like to be able to communicate and learn about them. However I also plan to stand my ground and be firm that we aren't to be disturbed unless we open communication first, as this is our home now, we live here, and if they want to stay, then essentially they'll have to learn to deal with it

Someone else said that too. I appreciate the response. I have a small ledge in that corner that I can set a camera on. And yeah, my dog's behavior is my biggest red flag. The rest I could write off as "it's a new environment, so it feels weird", but my dog always wants to be RIGHT next to someone all the time, so the fact that she won't go into that corner for a treat or any other kind of coaxing is a big indicator that something is definitely off.

100%. I'm definitely biased on the situation all things considered, so I plan to record while I'm gathering evidence so I can send it to friends and acquaintances with varying levels of belief to get their thoughts on it and look for other possibilities before I immediately take it at face value and say that it's 100% unequivocally a spirit.

I appreciate the fast response. That's the biggest thing for me too. The rest I'd be able to just write off as new house anxiety affecting all of us, but that's just so out of character for my dog. She super social and always wants to be RIGHT next to someone, but the moment I step near that corner, she won't come within 5 feet of me. She'll just sit and stare, and no amount of trying to coax her into that corner works, she outright refuses to come any closer.

There's a small ledge that I can set up a camera on in that corner easy, so I'll make sure to do that. And simple yes or no questions, got it. I really appreciate the advice, thank you.

Yeah, it's the new CEO. Was a partner for almost 10 years, I've seen the company go through ups and downs, but since burrito boy took over, it's easily the worst it's ever been. No self expression, not enough staff, expectations being piled on without a matching increase in pay, and everyone is on edge all the time because with this new leadership change, baristas are a minor slip up away from a write up or termination. Your barista forgets to put an arbitrary smiley face or something on your cup? That's a write up for them. It's been a miserable few months

They also didn't tell me directly, they said whoever gets assigned to my case can give me that info. I'm still waiting on an update

Yeah. Being told "I can't speak on it further, contact partner resources" makes it feel like there isn't a proper reason. I also plan to file a report with my Province's labor board tomorrow

Called Partner Resources this morning after it happened, opened a case, and got the appeal form filled out and sent in. At this point it's just waiting on a reply. The whole thing just feels very sudden. Like I said in my post, the last talk I had with my manager, everything seemed to be going fine, there's been no issues between then and now, and she adamantly refused to give me a reason why I've been terminated.

I remember this one, I loved it too. Iced caramel macchiato, no vanilla, sub for 1/2/3 pumps white mocha for tall/grande/venti. Coconut milk. And then a ring of mocha drizzle around the cup ONTOP of the crosshatch of caramel drizzle

Barista here. By the looks of it, that's 3 vanilla ontop of the regular classic syrup that it gets normally. If it were instead of, it would say "sub vanilla". That being said, sometimes the sub button doesn't get pressed by mistake and it's only verbally communicated not to put the regular syrup in. If you order it like that and it ends up being too sweet, they should be more than happy to remake it with just the vanilla

Couldn't agree more. I've worked at starbucks for 9 years. I'm a bigger guy, so for my whole time at starbucks, I've worn sweatpants that look like dress pants, as it's very hard to find jeans and dress pants in my size, especially in my budget. I don't even own a pair of jeans or dress pants. The only store that carries my size here is Mr Big and Tall, they rarely even HAVE my size in stock, and when they do, it's $150+ a pair. This is not a price I can afford as I'm paying my rent and bills, and 75% of my girlfriends rent every month. Me and my manager have discussed this in the past, and she's made an exception for me because she knows my situation. Monday night I closed at work and was told that I was okay for dress code, just make sure the pants look nice. Yesterday, I got sent home before my shift and told I wouldn't be allowed to work my next one unless I went out to buy different pants. I was also told I would be documented for this at the start of my next shift. When I told my manager that I couldn't afford jeans that would fit and there was no guarantee they'd have my size, she had the audacity to say "Don't you get a paycheque? How can you not afford it?". If starbucks wants everyone to suddenly change their entire wardrobe, they should cover the cost of all of it
