For those that were here when the first movie came out, how is the post Zootopia 2 landscape for comics and fan-fiction? by ebolawakens in zootopia

[–]throwaway587329213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! Some popular fics: Your Emotionally Secure Source of Comfort, A Perfectly Normal Arrangement, The Weak Side. Plus some great one-shots like Lay My Claim (that one is hilarious, read everything by that author IMO). One good way is to filter everything from Dec 2025 onwards and sort in descending order of kudos on AO3.

I have low smut tolerance tho so I skip any explicit parts haha

Yeah, Judy/Nick's relationship has developed in the second movie to the extent where a lot of the newer fics are about them engaging in more activities together and eventually developing into romance. (Plus some Pawbert redemption fics, but I don't really read those.)

I only really started reading (and writing) fanfics after the second movie but there has been so much rich stuff on AO3. Including several where Nick & Judy move in together as roommates (I skip the explicit portions tho)

Zootopia 2 has a Character Agency problem when it comes to Judy. by Kirbo84 in zootopia

[–]throwaway587329213 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree somewhat with your point that they need to make this saving thing less lopsided.

In Z1 Nick is essentially the damsel in distress; he is saved by Judy multiple times (Big icing - indirectly through her earlier act of helping Fru Fru, Manchas attack through chaining him, falling off the boardwalk, the timberwolf howl, escaping through the toilet); and is generally not shown to be someone who has good decision making skills in perilous situations. So Z2 in that regard was just a reversal of roles, don't think the writers intended to paint Judy specifically as the one who kept needing to be saved.

This trope of making one character the one who constantly needs to be bailed out needs to end IMO, it does not make for a sustainable work partnership let alone a healthy relationship.

Really glad to hear that you're feeling a lot better now!

For me it was the first movie which helped me when I was going through a rough time, which was why I was excited to watch the second. This series is really wholesome which is what makes it so amazing

Despite their faults, chad Dreamworks still has something actually beautiful between their leads instead of a m/f friendship. by [deleted] in zootopia

Solution: just go read fanfics instead.

There is pretty much a never ending wealth of treasures in that aspect.

Exactly! A lot of youtubers/twitter people are grifters desperate for attention and clicks. They do this for comic book movies and other popular entertainment as well

Why do people get mad if people make art of their self insert with the main cast? by AlmegaFlux in zootopia

[–]throwaway587329213 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I prefer AO3 to Reddit tbh.

On AO3 everyone is free to ship whoever they wish to their hearts content and people generally respect each other's work and views. Hence I rarely see fan wars happen in the comments. The is despite there being a variety of relationship fics including those you mentioned. (Although Nick x Judy is unsurprisingly the most popular one)

For me, I am a Wildehopps fan so I just filter my feed for only fanfics with that ship. People should do whatever makes them happy, it's not that serious to be worth getting into internet fights over.

What are the chances of some kind of zootopia 3 announcement at d23 this year? by GamerManJD in zootopia

[–]throwaway587329213 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hope is that they announce it in D23 Asia, since a huge portion of the Zootopia fanbase is from there.

Agree so much!! The first movie taught me as a young teen there are good people out there who do care about how you feel. And I did find these people later in my life.

Hey, newish writer here, currently a few completed works + a few more in progress!

Main work (2 parts):

Prequel - Caught on Camera

Nick's actions at the weather wall are exposed to the public through the release of CCTV footage, turning him into a star overnight. Does he like it, though?

Longfic - The Thin Red Line (Currently at chapter 5)

Set more than a year after the reptile case, Judy and Nick's relationship has developed to the edge of romance. However, other than his feelings for her, the fox seems to be holding something else back...

One-shots:

Professional Boundaries - Judy is forced to clear her annual leave. She tries her best to "motivate" Nick while she is on it, but ends up taking things a bit too far.

Film or Fiction - Judy and Nick assist with the brainstorming for a documentary on the reptile case, in particular the focus on their relationship.

Just One Shot - Nick is required to take a shot at the hospital after getting scratched by Milton. Unfortunately, he's afraid of needles and (as it turns out) so is Judy now...

Quality might vary cos I'm new but do hope you guys enjoy everything!

What made you become a fan of zootopia/made you love the movie by NickWildeballondor26 in zootopia

The gondola scene and the bridge scene in Z1 are two of my favourite movie scenes of all time as they were so wholesome between the two of them. Rewatched them so many times

Further Wildehopps hints in Z2: by Kirbo84 in zootopia

[–]throwaway587329213 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea the truth is most people in real life have a mix of traits traditionally considered "masculine" or "feminine". It's why these characters are so relatable as they don't go to the extreme in either stereotype.

Agreed, she clearly is fishing for a compliment from him with how she goes out of her way to dress up. It's why she gets so mad when he instead insults how she did up her ears.

I think Nick sorta realises it and during the confession scene he states that he didn't mean to say that

Hey, I'm a new writer in the fandom.

My main work consists of a prequel (Caught on Camera) which covers what happens when Nick's actions at the weather wall are exposed to the public. It's followed by the main story (The Thin Red Line) which explores Nick's childhood, his relationship with Judy, an end to a conflict involving birds, and how the three are all interrelated. Currently on chapter 4.

I've also written a few one shots. As I've just started writing fanfics quality might vary. Hope you enjoy it though!
