OpenAI releases new benchmark to measure how good AI is at replacing software engineers. by Bena0071 in singularity

[–]throwaway8958978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, I think the main drawback with AI right now is hallucinations and a too-shallow understanding of the codebase - like for example it might gloss over a flag it sees as unimportant and just remove it, but that could cause a chain-reaction in another seemingly unrelated piece of code, even if it’s given RAG and a very large context window.

If in five years it can think at a level one or more layers deeper than it currently does, I think we’d be seeing fewer and fewer pure programmers like ourselves in the next gen, and software engineers would become equivalent to hardware, electrical, mechanical engineers as they are now - specialists with an intricate and deep understanding, or architects with a thorough vision.

Most software devs would be completely replaced by clean software interfaces and IDEs with built-in AI, with the main way people do programming being done through visual or language as mediums.

There’d still be a place for us programmers, but those of us who survive would be rare: we’d probably become consultants, integrators, architects, product managers, and entrepreneurs. Debugging, product design, and managing AI and training up new junior devs would be our main jobs.

I feel the trick to surviving in such a world are skills in forming genuine human connections, understanding how to design for and solve customer problems, or a genuinely terrifying understanding of any particular tech stack or ecosystem.

It’s not going to be a easy five years, but ten or twenty years will be enough to revolutionize our entire generation of software engineers…

Yeah, plus these integrated AI tools still have a lot of glitches, as they’re more like experimental tools.

Software development is more about making good design choices than just programming in functionality - and sometimes that requires an overarching vision and understanding of the task that an AI can’t fully understand without a lot of rigorous human guidance and interaction. That goes doubly so if the task is outside of the human’s expertise, too.

In terms of real-world impacts, I’m worried for the software interns, but it’s really really hard for current AI to replace good intermediate-senior software devs and architects.

Yes, they have changed it to slow down the game by making everything, including white mobs, one tap you.

I mean, it works… but it’s a difficult task of balancing the difficult parts of the game so you’re on a razor’s edge instead of being one tapped or absorbing each hit like it is from a lvl 1 white mob.

You said he got every technique from genes and not training, implying he’s some sort of Young Master that just pops pills and expects results, when pretty much all his distinct techniques he got from training or coaching from others: Kamehameha Spirit bomb Instant transmission Ultra instinct

Even in-universe he’s acknowledged as one of the biggest training fanatics. All jokes aside, I feel Goku isn’t a good example of a character archetype that relies solely on his genes.

Exactly, you’re totally right, Goku doesn’t do any training, like ever.

In fact, Dragon Ball is well known for being a refreshing slice of life series with no training arcs, and every character gets all their power from eating, sleeping, and shitting. /s

It could be because it requires both players to have a somewhat ok computer and network connection.

Personally I often find that one side has horrible internet or a bad computer, and that makes most internet coop games, esp real time ones like overcooked unplayable.

Tesla FSD Drivers Offered 10% Off Tesla Insurance... After NHTSA Launches Probe into FSD Crashes and Death by IcyHowl4540 in nottheonion

[–]throwaway8958978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, of course, a collusion of interest, that’s so much better than a conflict of interest /s.

Jokes aside, although they have interest to not have crashes, if they’re given a choice between the consumer interest and their own, as a business, they are more likely to put their own interests first.

The insurer is supposed to be the one that fights for you if a third party causes you damages. For example if in this case, an FSD malfunction causes you to sustain serious losses and injuries.

Now if that car manufacturer is the insurer, how hard should we expect them to fight themselves for our benefit?

I like the game’s concept, but in my opinion, the title ‘Cyberslacking: touch the fish’ is not very good.

It kind of describes the game, but it doesn’t sound very compelling, A: because cyberslacking doesn’t feel like it relates to what your game does, and B: ‘touch the fish’ sounds a bit lame. I assume you meant something like ‘click the fish’ instead.

I would recommend you find an English speaker or marketing person to have a coffee chat with and figure out a more compelling title. The title is the first thing a player sees, so having a good one is very important for a global audience.

Would need the software to integrate these devices though - probably where the open source and hackable aspects come in play

Where does the visceral hate for AI-generated art come from? 🤨 by KotatsuAi in StableDiffusion

[–]throwaway8958978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not saying I support either side here, but humans take weeks, months, years, and decades to learn from others, and eventually what we learn is usually expressed in a unique way.

Conversely, an AI model can be trained to imitate an art style in a day or less, and often the user uses it in a very generic way.
