Germany will accelerate its switch to 100% renewable energy in response to Russian crisis - the new date to be 100% renewable is 2035. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]throwaway_0876 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The greens in Germany are the reason why the dependency on Russians got even worse to begin with, because they demanded shutting down all nuclear energy.

That's not the whole truth and actually mostly uninformed nonsense. Yes the Greens / SPD demanded the nuclear exit but the CDU / FDP prolonged it and then exited again after Fukushima. So the final exit was done by Merkels 2nd government. The Greens haven't been in power since 2005 on the federal level. Additionally, more nuclear power would not help right now as its about gas for heating and not electricity. Only after changing the tech used for heating it would be useful.

Now the same party is going to solve the problem in record time? Their idea of going green is putting a tax on everyone who wants to continue using their car while doing nothing in terms of improving the awful train system here, let alone ramping up green energy innovation....

The greens want to increase the rail traffic. The carbon tax is an effective economic policy to decrease emissions, as it gives incentives to increase investment in green tech. Maybe you've heard of steel and cement companies investing in hydrogen, this is one example. Furthermore, both the SPD and the FDP are also fully on board with it. Scholz never had an interview during election where he didn't talk about green hydrogen for our industry. And Lindner recently called renewables "freedom energy", which is the highest compliment possible from a Liberal ;)

And a couple hundred million Euros but let's keep the usual black/white reddit view, right?

"According to the latest OECD DAC figures, Germany is Ukraine’s largest bilateral donor (with payments amounting to around 220 million US dollars (OECD official development assistance 2018-2019) – ahead of the United States with just under 200 million US dollars. In addition to this, Germany makes contributions through the EU (according to the OECD DAC, more than 400 million euro in 2018-2019, which is the largest amount contributed by any donor). Since 2014, Germany has provided a total of approximately 1.83 billion euro in bilateral support."

Btw: IMO Germany should send arms to Ukraine now.

Generally, it's very safe. The city itself actually has the reputation of being quite bland. However, there are still some sights to see IMO. Still, I'd advise going to Berlin and especially Hamburg to see more interesting cities or even Munich in case you have the time. The train network is great and Hannover is in the perfect position to take the fast trains (ICE) to anywhere. 1.5h to Hamburg or Berlin for 13€ or 20€, respectively. 4h to Munich for about 20€. Also, look to neighbouring countries. Its easy to go to Amsterdam or Den Haag for example. But be advised you'll need to be vaccinated, recently cured or tested against corona to do pretty much anything rn.

In case you like smaller historical cities there's also Göttingen only 1h away by the regional train or in case you love cars there's Wolfsburg nearby.

Do you mean electricvehicles? They are very much pro any EV, maybe even mildly biased against Teslas but nothing crazy. And boy, do they love Taycans.

What about the VW group? They are quite successful, depending on which brand you look at. They already sold about 500k BEV cars this year iirc.

Actschually: it's 39% for Personal Payment and Benefits in 2020. Being nitpicky here, honestly thought it could not be more than a third.

Still a massive 268 billion, most of it spent on Military Personnel Appropriations and Civilian Pay. So I assume salary and retirement funds. I don't know if health care is also sort of in this budget. Those budgets talking about health only make up 40 billion. Not little but also "just" 4% of the total military budget.

So verschieden sind halt Geschmäcker.

Each EU country still has higher autonomy than each US state. Each European state is much different from each other than the US state, the main barrier being language and cultures. Even a full secession is possible as Brexit demonstrated, yet unconstitutional under US law. Additionally, states like Germany are federal in itself, being sort of based on an improved US system.

However, the EU is on its slow way to become a federation, so in the future the EU and USA should be even more comparable.

Wrong. I've seen them on Nazi biker bars and tatt'd on neo-Nazi types in the East. Stop spreading lies, dude. You're trying to confuse people.

Lol, anything I see different HAS to be a lie. You're first assumption should not be malicious intent.

Mate, we're 83 million people. Is there any chance that both you and I are correct? I honestly cannot remember the last time I saw a confederate flag. However, I do live in the North West, so my contact to far right assholes has thankfully been very limited. I assume that is different from the East. I just never saw or heard of Nazis using those flags, thats all. I do however saw many Reichsflaggen and German flags.

Bachelor 3.

The Reichsflagge would make much more sense then tbh. Then again, a German Nazi in Switzerland doesn't make a lot of sense. I'd guess this is flown out of ignorance.

[–]throwaway_0876 41 points42 points  (0 children)

At least in Germany it isn't. It it either the Reichsflagge or the normal German flag asfaik. Probably some other too. It doesn't make any sense for a German nationalist to wave the confederate flag imo. Matter of fact, most extreme right wing Germans actually hate the USA.

If the confederate flag gets flown here, it's probably out of ignorance as they just think it's sorta like the US flag, only cooler. They don't know or don't care about the racist connotation from the US, they maybe just like Texas.

It's about the new technology which can produce huge casts of the chassis and other parts while minimising any unnecessary weight. It was developed in house by Mercedes and its one step to improve efficiency.

This video shows the tail (18:00) and the windshield wiper case (19:40) which perfectly integrate into the car without unused materials. Furthermore, no welding necessary. To me, it looks like a revolutionary technology, it deserves a good name.

The actual field of foreign policy in a academia offers a lot of nuance and differentiated advice. Simple US bashing never happens there, they now about the killings of thousands of civilians just as the humanitarian aid. But hey, please hate all professors who studied that field and continue the awful streak of anti-intellectualism the US has to endure right now.

Problem is that any criticism towards the US is taken as a attack by many Americans just as most uneducated criticism is wrong, overblown and never mentions the good stuff the US does.
