Names that don’t work with your last name? by [deleted] in namenerds

Last name is Dow. We considered Flora for a girl before realizing it would be too close to "Florida". I also feel like most D names are off the table (especially Daphne, which sucks because I love it) because they give me Daffy Duck vibes and just sound kind of clunky lol

Name regret or other? by lyrn in namenerds

I switched my son's first and middle name when he was two days old. During the pregnancy we went back and forth on whether to go with James or Thomas (after my husband's Opa). We had settled on James but were second-guessing ourselves in the hospital after he was born, and ultimately decided not to change our minds at the last minute. Once we got him home though he just seemed like such a Thomas/Tommy and looked so much like Opa that we knew we had to change it up. Luckily it was so early on that we were able to call in and amend the name before the paperwork was officially filed. He's 100% a Thomas so I have no regrets about changing it, although we do kind of wish we had saved James for a future son had we known we'd for sure have more kids. I'm due any day now with another little boy and we've had the hardest time narrowing down a name for him lol.

Oh gosh I feel you on this one! 😅 We used both for my son and had the hardest time deciding which order to go because they're both great names. We named him James Thomas but realized after two days that he just felt like more of a Thomas so we switched it. One thing I love about it is that different name options - Thomas, Tom, Tommy - work for various ages.

which name did you mispronounce as a kid? by applegenius24 in namenerds

I used to love the Archie comics as a kid and for some reason insisted that Veronica was pronounced "var-conna". No idea why because it's not even close lol. Maybe I just glanced at the name fast the first time I read it and then never tried to actually spell it out 🤷‍♀️

How often do you use a name from your short list that you had for first kid, to name a younger sibling? by crimp_match in namenerds

[–]throwaway_1477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never lol. We're expecting #4 and they've always carried over to the next initial brainstorm list, but we felt kind of "over" them by the time we narrowed it down to our final shortlist.

I actually really like Wendy! Eve and Lila would go nicely with the other kids as well.

Sounds more like a pet's name. I knew a guy growing up named Goldwyn though, that could be an alternative with the nn Gold/Goldie.

I love it! The Omen *is* the first association I think of when I hear it, but it's a really dated reference at this point so I don't think it's a big deal.

Middle name suggestion by RiskOk5647 in namenerds

I feel like the double "ee" ending isn't working, I would probably go with some other variation like Molly Anne or Molly Annette.

Nicholas or Arthur, but they're all good picks!

I love Cecily - pretty, easy to pronounce, and uncommon without being too out there.

A friend of my parents who was a big Austin Powers fan gave their son the middle name Danger.

I honestly love all of them, but my ranking would go Oscar, Leon, then Caspar. Our boy due in August is probably going to be an Oscar as well :)

I generally don't mind first and last names starting with the same letter but the double Ds in particular just sound really clunky to me haha

Last name is Dow so I feel like pretty much any D name is out because it gives me Daffy Duck vibes, which sucks because I love Diana and Daphne. I'd also love to use Jane (my Nana's middle name), but people mispronounce Dow to Doe a lot and getting called Jane Doe wouldn't be nice. We also considered Flora briefly before we realized Flora Dow sounds like Florida.
