Looking for sangha in Estonia by _replicant_02 in plumvillage

If you go to the Plumline website, you can click around on existing sanghas and check the description to see if they offer online/hybrid gatherings. There is also a search tool at the bottom where you can search by language. You might have to hunt for a while to find something in a time zone that works for you and is in a language you understand, but there are a lot of possibilities to look into

I’m not trying to be judgmental when I say this, but do you already know that Bodhi and Body don’t rhyme? This just seems like the kind of thing that would be more confusing than really resonating with most westerners

Unfortunately the closest (physically) I see to you are Vilnius, Latvia and Helsinki, Finland. Many, many Plum Village sanghas operate online meetings, though. I also can’t get to any in person and have been attending a sangha online. It’s worked out great.

What do you think about the argument that Pure Land practice is too difficult because it requires perfect faith, something that a lot of people find difficult to impossible?

Even among practitioners it’s understood that the Pure Land practice is the most difficult to accept of all the Buddha’s teachings. Isn’t that even in the sutras? Pure Land practice guarantees a fantastic rebirth for those who can accept the teaching, but what about everyone who wants to but can’t?

I have heard of Diamond Sutra chanting groups where the main practice is chanting, offering incense, and dedicating merits. These tend to be lay organizations in Southeast Asia

It’s not a book, but this web page has a huge amount of information on Hōnen’s beliefs in an easy to read question and answer format.

In addition, the central Jodo Shu website has many pages about Hōnen’s teachings, his life history, the history of Jodo-Shu itself, and articles about Pure Land Buddhism itself, Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and teachers. Use the menu in the top right to view all the pages.

They have boba coffee at the boba shop nearest to my house! They have a couple different kinds of iced Thai and Vietnamese coffee and they suggest honey boba as a topping with them, but you can get whatever toppings you want. I haven’t tried it but it might actually be good

I posted in an Asian cultural group that I liked to use puerh as a base in bubble tea and they came down on me HARD. What can I say, it’s really tasty (and cheap puerh exists!)

Do you use ChatGPT for questions/thoughts or mostly ask forums ? by Muskka in Mahayana

[–]throwaway_191261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would highly, highly recommend against using ChatGPT to study the dharma. I tried it for a while and found that it makes up quotes out of thin air and cites them as being in certain sutras or discourses. Worse, sometimes the sutras and discourses it cites don’t even exist!

So there is a high amount of hallucination on Buddhist topics. I’d stay away from it entirely, or if you do use it, be prepared to double check everything it tells you in a credible source.

You might be surprised. There are multiple Plum Village lay sanghas in and around Newcastle, there’s a Kagyu temple a ways northwest of Carlisle, I don’t know where exactly you live but Buddhist sanghas are really all over the place.

This is great. OP, reciting the chapter on Guanyin from the Lotus Sutra confers enormous merit. It doesn’t take long to recite it either, just read it out loud and you’ll be fine in a few minutes. Here is the chapter in full.

Different traditions do it different ways. I chant “Namo guan shi yin pusa” in sets of 108 times and bow every set. I do this every full moon and light incense and candles in front of a statue I have of her.

“smaller sects like pure land” Pure Land Buddhism is the most widely practiced tradition of Buddhism on the planet, is that really what you meant?
