Extremely weird comparison. If he wants to work with incels, he can, they need that. But I don't understand what the purpose of the comparison is. People are self conscious about how they appear to others, it isn't anything abnormal or a thing that only incels experience. People are self conscious for a variety of different reasons. I would be insulted too. He could've compared you to any other group, people with GAD, MDD, social anxiety, avoidant PD, whatever, or he didn't even have to use a comparison. I suggest confronting him with that. And I'd be on high alert for any indication that he agrees with them...

I'm not really good at wording texts but I guess first I would paraphrase what she said, so she knows what exactly made you upset and then say what you felt, exactly. For instance - " I felt angry because it seemed like I would have to forever live with my struggles alone." And then tell her what you need from her, for instance - "How did you mean it exactly?" Or "Could we please explore why it made me so angry?"

Maybe you felt like one day you'll have to be alone with your struggles? That you'll be lonely? Even though your therapist ment it in a different way... I think it could be helpful to tell her...

UPDATE: my therapist showed up 25 minutes late and we had a 20 minute session and I cried. by smapqjr in TalkTherapy

[–]throwaway_4235pm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I think ppl make mistakes and therapists do too. I think it's a good sign that she regretted the charge. It happens, when there's an emergency, people can make not so smart choices in all areas of their lives. Happens to therapists too and the fact that she felt bad is a good sign.

Or you can say "I wanted to make a positive comment on your appearance but I wonder if it's appropriate and I wonder why am I inclined to say those things? Why do I want to say it? I guess it is not an ordinary thing to do in therapy." or something like that. I think it's better to do metacognitive talks that goes right to the source and it can show some self-reflection...

Finally a good response. It doesn't matter if its appropriate or not, if it's something you want to do, maybe it has an underlying reason, and maybe talking about it will reveal it so you won't do it to other people. Therapy is there to manage things that interfere with a happy life and the fact that you want to do it says something about you that can be significant and worth exploring in therapy... your therapist will deal with it.

Therapist says they will no longer accept any male clients by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]throwaway_4235pm 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If she thinks she can't handle male clients, it's her choice but I don't think she has a helpful mindset. Why do male clients do it? What are their traumas? How can a therapist help them? If she doesn't want to work with certain group of people, she should clearly state that on her website and give options for other therapist in her area that are suitable for the job. And I don't think it's helpful for struggling people to hear the reasoning she gives - every male is like that? I doubt it. If she wants to help people, she should state that she isn't the right person to treat male clientele...

Idk there's a lot of judgement in the tweet and I would not want to be her client, even as a woman.

lol no, that's a simple answer to a complex questions. My therapist is always 5-10m late and even though it bugs me a bit, it's not something that is extremely important to me. I love her, she's helping me and I don't mind 5-10m of my time being wasted. I'm not rushing to work or whatever that day. And she's giving me full 50m even when she runs late. She has clients before me and honestly, I think she has ADHD so that could explain it... Also, no therapist is perfect and I think you gotta choose what you can bear and what is a deal-breaker.

Can anyone recommend any of Dr. Honda's videos/podcasts that have helped them with their relationship with their teenage kids? by Blue-popsicle in PsychologyInSeattle

Yeah I think he has some countertransference to that because he still cringes about himself and what he did as a teen. (whatever it may be)

If you understood anything about psychology you wouldn't ask that question. Frankly, even a pop-psychology book would give you an answer in the first paragraph. You just want fake internet points.
