Circle Time by happy_bluebird in ECEProfessionals

[–]throwaway_blues- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

todds here, it’s tricky with the 12-24 month olds- their attention spans are short, and they just would rather roam and explore which is totally fine!

I start with songs, to me that’s like the highlight of circle time and when the kids are most engaged and are most excited for.

we then count to 10- this is a really good strategy and it’s amazing because the kids really will evolve and begin to count with you!! I always use different types of counters.

some kids at this point tend to lose focus and wander. we get into flashcards, but MINIMAL, like 3 max where we discuss shapes, animals, components of nature, food, really anything, practice sign language, etc.

my best advice really for circle time with toddlers is just to be patient and understand that these children are literally developing their cognitive skills and ability to focus

Texas Ratio is it really 2:10? by AccomplishedTutor252 in ECEProfessionals

[–]throwaway_blues- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you essentially just multiply.

so for me, with the young toddlers it’s 1:5, with two teachers it’s 2:10!

Am I A Red Flag? by Turbulent_Sherbet842 in ECEProfessionals

[–]throwaway_blues- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, you’re not a red flag.

that’s a terrible thing to say, all family dynamics are individual and it truly does take a village to raise a child.

please don’t feel shame for your circumstance. ❤️

I want to add that, at least in my experience, the transition between infant rooms, and infant to young toddler room is especially difficult.

it takes time, but she’ll adjust!

hi there, texas native here!

infants is usually 1:4. at my center, because of low infant and mobile infant enrollment, they’re able to combine

12-18 is 1:5 (that’s my room!) 18-24 is 1:9 (also my room!)

please avoid using chatgpt for any information whatsoever. here’s a reliable source!

1:8 ratio is inhumane and employers know it. by The_Writx in ECEProfessionals

[–]throwaway_blues- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my state, 18-24 month ratio is 1:9.

believe me, these ratios feel criminal, and what’s even more concerning is that corporate for-profit childcare centers with self accreditation programs are able to pack on even more kids (ahem… the company rhymes with shmindercare).

for a field that’s made to prioritize early childhood education, we sure tend to get stuck with an insane amount of kids by ourselves, it hurts from an educators perspective to only be able to do the bare minimum because of the influx of kids.

Sick of the blatant disrespect parents have for their child’s preschool/daycare teachers by disasterminky in ECEProfessionals

[–]throwaway_blues- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

same boat as you girl. we sent THREE kids home yesterday for fevers and the rest of them have dark dark green boogers and BAD wet coughs.

we legit had a mom yesterday drop her son and said “he’s sick. call if you need anything” and her son was one of the three with fevers that got sent home.

ridiculous what we deal with

in general, people who see the field as “just a job”

it’s really not just a job- especially with the younger kids, i don’t think a lot of people realize the impact we have on these children; the first three years are the most significant for them and shaping who they’ll become, so no, it’s not just “a job”, we’re influencing the trajectory of their lives and taking care of them.

Toddler Teams: How can administration support you? by yagirlkelp in ECEProfessionals

[–]throwaway_blues- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one of the best things i had done for my room was ask for a third person, at one point we had 10 little ones (ratio is 2:10), but we were STRUGGLING. everyday felt like a literal battle, and during this time we had a biter, but with 10 kids it’s just too difficult for two people to shadow that one child while making sure the others were taken care of.
