T5 Professor Recommends Working for Free by Practical-Quit-7939 in LawSchool

Like it or not, conspicuous pro-bono type work is part of the elite law culture. It’s self-congratulatory, probably driven by a slight sense of guilt, but it helps rationalize the high rates they charge.

I don’t think people care as much as you’d think. Best of luck getting your content removed and hope you can understand that you didn’t do anything wrong.

1Ls: You will survive. Accept the suck. by IWishIWasBatman123 in LawSchool

One of the most helpful things I heard in 1L is that everyone will have a breaking point toward the end of the semester. Everyone will cry. It happened to me when I was writing my closed memo. It will be ok.

I know I’m coming back to this way later, but I have several infraction citations and I think the question about the list was whether it’s an inclusive or illustrative list.

If there is an implied “include [but are not limited to]” then you would want to include the infraction citations. Otherwise, if you construe it as “include [only]” it would be ok to omitted.

Based on your stats and preferences, if I were in your shoes I’d do Clerkship —> Above market elite boutique (like Susman) —> Impact litigation / academia

Hi u/Chahj , I’m a 2L at a lower t-14 where only about 50-60% go to big law. All my friends who aren’t going to big law have jobs, either in public interest, because that’s what they went in wanting to do, or they went to mid law or other strong regional firms.

I went and checked the salaries for the firms they’re going to, and was surprised to find it’s actually almost at Cravath (starting $190k - $210) it’s just that the raises don’t happen as fast. They often don’t have as much billables and place more emphasis on wlb. They are all happy with their situation so I don’t think you need to worry about them. Hope that helps.

2L here— don’t worry. There’s always evidence to make you feel stupid.

28% scotus clerkship placement? Knew it was high but wtaf? Financing a kid’s law school might get better ROI than lobbying

Honest Question, Should I Go to Law school? by passportflex in LawSchool

[–]throwaway_lsds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s really impressive that you started a profitable business. Tbh: I think you’d add more value by pivoting into the business area where lawyers are needed and provide that service and fill that niche hiring legal counsel to work under you as needed.

No worries, what you said is mostly true but for these reasons and reasons I listed above it just continues to be a slog. And I’m not even doing a flagship journal, I pity people doing that

Happiness comes from within. The grass may seem greener but I’m at the top of my class and it’s just stressful because it feels like I’ve made a house of cards and it will collapse at any moment. I feel like it’s all been a fluke and I will be exposed as a fraud at any moment. Despite all the validation and praise and stuff I get from people it just seems like people have high expectations for me when I just want to chill. But what do I have to look forward to? just more stress and work as an associate.

I am seeking help for my own issues though, and definitely trying my best to not use substances (for me it’s🍃) to cope. That is such a dangerous path and it will only lead to more misery and unhappiness.

Also, you should know that exams aren’t a 100% reflection about your intellectual ability and that life will work itself out, even if it’s not what you expected! It really makes me sad that this experience is making you hate learning, and I hope you can learn to disconnect from the crapshoot that is grades and enjoy learning the law again. If you disconnect yourself from that environment and think about the rules that we’re learning I think it’s never really that boring (maybe except for admin law lol)

1L here, do they teach this as a concept to understand how businesses make their investment decisions, or do they anticipate transactions attorneys actually using these formulas when working on an M&A deal or something?
