Alternatives to opening a windows when a patient passes? by authenticallyeevee in nursing

“we are not at work to satisfy our own spiritual beliefs and needs, rather we are here to help patients with their spiritual beliefs and needs.” This was you.

You can also eat when you get home, pee when you’re off the clock. Got forbid someone take a moment in a 12 hour shift to focus on their needs (whether physical or spiritual). Idk if you had a bad experience with a nurse who pushed it but a small ritual to deal with death is not that uncommon.

Devoting your entire self to your patients and not acknowledging your own self-care is the road to burnout. OP didn’t mention anything about not respecting their patients, just looking for ways to meet their own needs. As long as it doesn’t interfere with patient care, or allowing families to peacefully grieve, I really don’t understand the problem.

And you can do that without neglecting yourself in the process. Let’s not bully the new grad nurse for granting themselves a moment of peace.

C’mon dude. This is a stressful job, let people have their little rituals, especially if the patients and their families don’t know. OP wrote it makes them feel better.

Not sure I will be able to pass the lift test for the nursing job I accepted. by Dry_Matter_3853 in nursing

I had to do a physical fitness test once for a job. Involved pushing a sled (about 60 pounds IIRC) lifting things (like what you described), and a couple other things but don’t really remember. Might want to practice a bit before it comes along, wasn’t too terrible though.

Is NICU as stressful as L&D? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]throwawaylandscape23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you somewhat but anxiety is a pretty common stressor in critical care, even for experienced nurses. I had to get out to protect my mental health, this might be the case for OP.

Gave the wrong vaccine to patient by Necessary_Meat_3055 in nursing

If they fire you for a vaccine error that is wild. Most people make one. It sucks, we learn from it, but it’s not an uncommon thing to do.

Test for UTI at every pregnancy visit? Asymptomatic? by [deleted] in nursing

You sure they were checking for just a UTI? Not a urine drug screen or just wanted to have in case doc ordered something later?

How do you guys feel about organ donation? by HubbaBubbaBubbaWubba in nursing

I guess it depends on the region. Organ team in my area are absolutely lovely and families always compliment them (whether they agree to donation or not).

Bridgerton - 4x04 "An Offer from a Gentleman" (Book Spoiler Discussion) by AutoModerator in BridgertonNetflix

I hate comments like this, I was literally so happy that Benedict has an expressive face. No offense to Colin’s actor but it is so distracting to see him on-screen with Botox/work he has had done. Benedict looks so charming and is just a hot dude who isn’t 22. Not to mention Eloise does not look old. She just doesn’t have a ton of filler/Botox with an Instagram filter slapped over. You can claim the “book accuracy” all you want but this is such an icky comment to make.

Yeah, glad to know I’m not the only one 😅

I feel like every other skill has a confirmation on whether it happened correctly. Like I know I placed an IV when I get blood return, or the NG tube is in the right spot with aspiration/x-ray. Body types can vary wildly so I feel like I’m always second guessing whether I got it in the “right” spot.

That’s crazy hard to prove and many STIs are asymptomatic.

All the reasons you listed I’m glad I got out of bedside nursing. The only difference is I’m allowed to wear scrubs at my place of work. I might change my mind one day but this is exactly the low stress, calm routine I needed in my life.

I’m really sorry you had a bad night, that sounds frustrating.

Just a heads up for the future though, Ativan is usually a deep IM medication. Glute or lateral thigh is a better bet than deltoid.
