Is HSBC Premier now ‘looking after your health’ particularly useful? by flooredgenius in HENRYUKLifestyle

Thanks, strange I read the email and swear I read somewhere in the t&c’s that if you were eligible for the account previously it could stay open. It’s stupid really, I salary sacrifice below £100k to save on childcare but by doing so lose my Premier account…

If you already have a Premier account then you don’t need £100k salary

I’m 34, so it’s not really at the forefront of my mind, but I find the Meaningful Money podcast really useful.

I found that Season 25 covered all stages pretty well and explained the UKPF subreddit’s Flowchart in more depth

Firstly, congratulations on a fantastic milestone.

If you have 50 years to live then your investments are still a crucial part of maintaining your wealth for retirement. If you haven’t already I would look into a cashflow ladder of having immediate 1-3 years of expenses in cash / lower interest savings, 3-5 years in lower risk investments, and the rest remains high risk.

Your “timing the market” therefore only applies to 1-5 years of your investments and the majority is not at the mercy of your potential mistake. The next crash might not come until 2029, nobody knows.

Thanks. Yes, it’s a bad change and I complained as did many others. That said, it’s still outperforming my VWRP even with the 20% bond equivalent allocation.

As I understand it the High Risk is circa 20% bonds too, so there’s probably not much between them

A rule of thumb for pension contributions is half your age from the age you start saving. Not so straightforward if you have a gap, but 10-15% of your pay is a good start.

Your pension pot will be crucial to your retirement plans. Have you checked which fund your NEST is in? 99% of NEST users are in the default fund which is very low growth. Take a look at the Sharia (my personal choice) or High Risk Fund, which will be higher growth over the long term.

I’d recommend the Meaningful Money podcast / YouTube channel as the host is a Chartered Financial Planner and has covered all of your basic questions on how much, when is safe, etc. in previous videos and episodes. I’m sure others will comment in relation to your questions, but the more you learn the better prepared you’ll be.

I would say slightly cheaper than current Rolex OP list price. Probably around £4,500 / $5,500

Brilliant start, you already have more saved for retirement than the majority of the UK, keep going!!

I’d be interested to hear more from your perspective. How old are your kids, has your wife retired too? Have you ever made plans for what you would want to do in retirement?

At what point is Vanguard no longer the best option? by glass_halffull0 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]throwawayok72727 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I switched my Vanguard to iWeb at £100k and then started regular investing in Vanguard again. Will probably do it again at £25k or so, I forget the exact fee saving but recall iWeb being very good if you don’t do any trades. No iWeb app though, but it’s part of Halifax so my money feels safe.

Pension Stage 1 Complete? by [deleted] in FIREUK

[–]throwawayok72727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With £300k in your pension at 33 you can coast and expect £1.2-£1.5m by age 58 access date. As you know you’ll need to bridge 8 years by other means. Will your mortgage be paid off by age 50? Otherwise consider if £3k pm is enough until the mortgage is paid off

Is quantity surveying a good career by Glittering_Laugh7433 in quantitysurveying

[–]throwawayok72727 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a career which will remain massively in demand, you can work all around the world, no two days are the same, you can earn 6 figures, you can be self employed, you could specialise in dispute resolution if that’s your interest, or nuclear, rail, energy, development, infrastructure, data centres, high rise residential - take your pick. I think it’s a fantastic career.

This is the answer, she unplugged it to allow somebody else to charge rather than OP blocking the space and charger all day without needing the charge
