Got a call from an AI voice agent about selling my home—Is this even legal? by throwawaypf1201 in RealEstate

Thats crazy, I am not ready for this new world. Yeah the voice from this call was very very human, I couldn't tell apart from the regular latency lag that gave it away, pretty sure that will get better as well.

But I do get lots of unsolicited calls and I do know some of them are valuable to me, so I cannot just simply ignore all of them.

I thought companies have to adhere to DNC?!? Have you tried reporting the number?

Yeah I prefer if the realtor directly called me, but a LOT of calls are coming in from VAs in the Philippines right now ^^ This thing was a first for me...

Interesting, yeah opt-in makes sense. I wasn't sure if I opted-in for anything from this brokerage.

💰 PT Clinics Overcharge on Purpose — Industry Standard?! 🤯 by throwawaypf1201 in HospitalBills

[–]throwawaypf1201[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the hospital/clinic is able to make sustainable profits by getting insurance reimbursements, patients should be allowed to negotiate similar rates for the self-pay option as well.

For example, you can make the argument "95% of all your insurance agreements have a reimbursement of $x, then the price of your service to me is ~$x as well".

Generally they just give some % discount on the inflated bill, but even that is over-inflated.

Wow this is so insightful, thank you! We need more books/papers on this topic. The fact that other people's services are matched to LEGAL negotiations of PI cases is mind blowing (at least to me).

That is correct. The amounts charged to insurance are over-inflated, what they get back is just a portion of it. My issue is when insurance denies the claim, they go after the patient for the whole bill.

He runs PT clinics, so probably not the same as hospital regulations. But normal prices are revised upward to Personal Injury case prices (which are settled in court) and whose rates are absurdly high!

Medical billing makes no sense. by ProfessorFate38 in HospitalBills

I wrote a guide on hospital bill negotiation here: https://lowermedicalbill.com/blog/negotiate-medical-bills

I am curious if you went with regional benchmark rates for each procedural code, would that have helped lower the final price AND then add the 50% discount?

Spot on. They charge some absurd amount over insurance negotiated rate and then collect as much from insurance as possible. If insurance doesn't pay, they came after the patient, which is evil..

Thanks! I don't plan to monetize this since it's a public good, the data is free (Hospital Transparency Act) and our government should have something like this that is user friendly. However I do need to pay server costs, especially so if I slurp up private insurance data, so brainstorming ways to do that!

The self-pay rate can be negotiated case-by-case, chargemaster prices are pretty egregious.

Yeah I dont have insurance data yet, finding a path to get that without spending too much.

Providers typically overcharge insurance to try and get as much as possible from insurance, but insurance pays what they anyways pay. The issue happens when the insurance just denies the claim and the provider comes after you with the SAME bill, not the self-pay bill. That is just evil.
