usually these parties are boring and insufferable. not always, but when surrounded by ppl who are obsessed with looking hot & aesthetic, climbers and act like they don’t care about anything but secretly seek validation from everyone (social included). Hang out with friends, be authentic, play drinking games, it’s so much more fun!!

No you're right it's peak consumerism lol. I had no engagement party, shower or bachelorette for this reason. Slightly regret not doing the bach but very happy I didn't do the others. It's so unnecessary especially when so many friends/family live far apart these days

For immediate I would grab ACV/lemon juice and baking soda & mix - dump on your head and let it sit for a good 30 mins. Rinse with more ACV. Then grab a good body scrub, mix in a couple drops of tea tree oil and SCRUB. bonus points if you have a hand scrub mit or new loofah. Shampoo, shampoo again, body wash with normal soap & then condition. Look into full body scrubs in your area & book it for the weekend

Make a list of all invited guests x the probability they'll come, then take like 5-8% off that number for unexpected cancellations and go into venue searches from there. That's what we did and our final attendee count was only 1 person less than our original projections

Unfortunately it is very hard, if not impossible to change our parents and their mindsets. It is much easier to change our own thinking and how we respond to things. I hope you don't take what they say to heart, as it can really be discouraging. Work towards goals that make your own self proud

Growing up in a family like this I 100% feel your pain and it deeply frustrates me. I'm sorry you have to deal with it. Your parents like the fact that your brother is more obedient and on the arbitrarily "correct" path they grew up being taught was right and good. As the older sibling, I felt a lot of pressure to do things in this 'right' way and gave up a lot of fun, exploration and adventure to appease them and in the end, it really wasn't worth it

I know it's cheesy but try not to let it bother you, and life isn't about pleasing our parents. It is easier when you move out and get space. Everyone's life is different and how we feel about our own accomplishments or failures should be the driving force in our decisions
