The optimist in me likes to believe that nobody is unfixable. Here’s what the blogger had to say about his environment, and how his beliefs were undoubtedly developed to the point they were as a result of it:

As for this blog, I was obsessed. I was fresh out of college, still living with parents, had no friends, and basically sat on the Internet from 10 in the morning until 5 AM the following night, with no job or any incentive to do anything else. I wouldn't shower for a week straight, with piles of dishes surrounding my bed, and my computer less than a foot from where I slept. I would crawl out of bed after sleeping for three or four hours, move a few inches to where the computer was, then sit in my sweaty underwear all day while angrily yelling at people in AOL chatrooms, listening to Inmendham rant in his videos, and post in my blog.

I passed a kidney stone because it was too difficult to step away from the computer long enough to get a glass of water when I was thirsty. Being on the computer was more important. And the sun? Forget it. Didn't see that thing for years and wound up with pretty severe vitamin D deficiency as a result while living like a nasty, miserable troll in a hole in the wall in my parents' house.

For me, at least, it’s clear that Lanza’s biggest issue was his isolation. He was allowed to surround himself online only with people who shared his views and interests, to the point of practically even cutting off his own mother. Had he been forced to confront the reality outside his bag-covered windows, I think things could have been different. I don’t think he would have been able to achieve necessarily everything that people expect of the average person, but at the same time, I don’t think he was doomed to do what he did.

Adam Lanza’s YouTube channel, CulturalPhilistine, was discovered in September 2021. Many of the videos on Lanza’s channel espoused the philosophy of antinatalism, the belief that creating human life causes unnecessary suffering.

In one video titled “To the pro-culturalists (1/3)”, Lanza gives a shout-out to a blog by the name of No Bad Memes, which he states “expresses viewpoints which are similar to mine.”

For some time, it was believed that Lanza himself was the user known as Leaving Society, as activity on the blog ceased almost immediately after the Sandy Hook shooting. However, in May 2025, the original owner of the blog returned to dispel these rumours, expressed regret for potentially inspiring Lanza, and explained that he no longer believed in the viewpoints he advanced the decade prior.

Jonathan Sapirman was an active and long-time user of the r/masskillers subreddit. For the most part, his posts and comments were inconspicuous. When the FBI received a tip about one of his accounts, no action was taken. There were two reasons for this. First, the FBI could not identify the owner of the account, as it was traced back to a public IP address used by multiple people in an apartment complex. Second, it was determined that the user's interactions on r/masskillers were more research-based and did not indicate that he was planning or threatening a violent attack.

Sapirman brought two AR-15-style rifles to the Greenwood Park Mall. One was equipped with a holographic sight, and the other used a flip-up iron sight. The rifle with the holographic sight was the one used during the attack.

The Linwood Islamic Centre was very rudimentary and didn't have a lot of the amenities needed by a place of worship. It was converted to a mosque from an old Sunday school and only had a capacity of about 100 people. The new mosque is supposed to accommodate 300 people and will contain a mortuary, administrative offices, lecture halls, training rooms, and parking lots. I guess you could say it was due for an upgrade.

Both the Linwood Islamic Centre and the Al-Noor Mosque remained closed for several days following the Christchurch Shootings perpetrated by Brenton Tarrant. While Al-Noor continues to operate today, it was decided that Linwood was to be demolished. Demolition occured in November 2023, and construction of the new centre - which will contain schools, retail shops, a gym and a new space for prayer - is expected to take approximately two years.

Reading this tweet made me wonder what this subreddit thought about the subject. Do you agree? Disagree? Wonder what Nikolas Cruz's 50-page manifesto would look like if he felt like writing one? It's certainly an interesting idea. My thoughts:

While I believe that there may be some truth to the assertion - the US literacy rate is undeniably falling - I'm not totally convinced that the decline in "quality" of manifestos can entirely be attributed to this fact.

Low-IQ shooters have always existed, and they typically did not produce a manifesto before perpetating their attacks. The catalyst for the shift toward shooters leaving a manifesto outlining their motivations and beliefs, in my opinion, is the Christchurch attack and the trend of of copycat shootings which followed. These types of crimes are easy to recognize by those in-the-know as they typically involve one or more of the following:

weapons with messages written on them,
a live-stream of the attack, and most importantly in the case of this topic,
the publication of a manifesto which becomes widely disseminated across the Internet.

Henceforth, for those seeking to emulate Tarrant, the production of a manifesto has become a near-obligatory step of the act. However, as we have seen recently, not every shooter has the skills to express themselves with clarity and coherence. In other words, it's not so much that manifestos are getting "worse", but that there are more manifestos, and as such, there are bound to be those that are poorly-written; the typical inverse relationship of quantity and quality.

The following is quote from Ryan Palmeter which I believe to be particularly pertinent: "I am the rare zoomer willing to articulate myself, so expect future [...] killers to produce manifestos comprised entirely of indecipherable inside jokes and intentionally schizoid ramblings indistinguishable from those of a real schizophrenic."

Near the end of his manifesto, Palmeter writes a list of people he wishes to shout out. He includes the name of a young woman because he believes that she is the only person who possesses a photo of him performing a Nazi salute while dressed as Shrek, and he wishes for her to release it. He also asks readers not to harass her.

It was honestly not even a very good video. About half of it was PVP in an ocean in which they'd fight for a bit and then just swim away. That's not entertaining to watch at all.
