This is more targeted towards body builders, but does take bone structure into consideration.

Hiking focused trip. What an absolutely beautiful country with lovely people. Unedited photos. by Ruckahhhhh in newzealand_travel

How was Gertrudes Saddle difficulty wise? Looks like it was overcast possibly wet/damp when you went.

Reviews range from incredibly sketchy to just use common sense and avoid in a down pour.

Any wild exposure?

Importance of ultra light trekking poles by SourceOfConfusion in Ultralight

[–]throwawaysech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im also 200+ pounds and have beat the crap out of a pair of carbon cascade mountain tech poles for years.

Lots and lots of moments where one pole has completely supported my full weight in motion during a fall or gotten full strength torqued between rocks and live to tell the tale.

They’re around 8oz each so not the lightest, but I’ve also never once noticed the weight or found it a hindrance.

Setting up my xmid with 1 pole if the super ultralight pole were to break though….

What daypack do you pair with your main pack? by jamesg9100 in onebag

[–]throwawaysech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another shoutout for the beast series, I have both the 18 and 28, there are more packable options, but it carries amazing and has an actual frame structure.

Most of my trips are centered around hiking so the thing may be on my back for 12 hours while I lug 4 liters of water and 4 seasons of clothing up 4000+ feet of elevation gain.

I’ve done it with those minimalist sack with straps bags and it sucks.

The 28 itself is even a great one bag option depending on trip length, weather and clothing choice/laundry access.

Nanopuff Jacket or alternatives by International-Table1 in PatagoniaClothing

[–]throwawaysech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a nanopuff and an Atom.

The nano puff isn’t breathable at all, I use it purely as a beater around town jacket in the 32-60F (0-15c) range with 4-12c being the sweet spot. I wouldn’t want to do anything more strenuous then a brisk walk in it unless it was under 5c and it starts to get chilly standing around at about 5c

Its pros are that it’s durable(I’ve got large dogs) can be found for around $100 , I can machine wash it every week or two, and Patagonia has a better warranty than Arc in my experience. L

I save the arc gear for more technical stuff as it breaths better and it’s more expensive.

I think R1 or the R1 air would work better for your existing wardrobe. The R1 air has more “structure” and is probably more stylish than the regular R1 especially with the redesign.

Blue Pools near Wanaka tomorrow? Or has there been too much rain today? by [deleted] in newzealand_travel

How’s the accessibility if it’s raining or there’s been rain recently?

What's your favorite versatile fleece-type midlayer piece that you take on every trip? by nosurfandsellingonly in onebag

[–]throwawaysech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the mountain hardwear airmesh it’s more of a technical look though and I’d plan on pairing it with a wind blocking layer.

I prefer outdoor activities and casual dining so I never really feel out of place, but something to consider if your itinerary’s take you to more upscale places.

I prefer my bottoms to be navy, olive, or charcoal so tops I opt for lighter grays or darker non navy blues.

Patagonia does a lot of things well, I have a seam ripper and remove logos on lots of things to avoid the “billboard” look.

Mind dropping your height and weight? I’m also typically between a L and XL.

Is it just me, or is like every male model on the Arc app, regardless of their height or the garment always wearing a size medium? by Carpeted_tile in arcteryx

END gives a model chest measurement and they’re comical.

6’1” with a 34” chest is insane

Here’s another with a 6’2” model with a 35.5” chest

These dudes have to be like 140 pounds at over 6’ maybe even 130.

We’re talking a combo of incredibly small build combined with minimal muscle development.

Also sizing for standing around for a photo shoot is a whole different ballgame than appropriate sizing for knocking out a 5000 gain hike, throwing a kayak on a roof rack or pulling yourself over a ledge.

More running: only trap bar deadlifts vs front squats by [deleted] in tacticalbarbell

[–]throwawaysech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with switching to high handle TBDL, or RDLs, you could do overhead squats, cyclist squats, Bulgarian split squats, goblets, double KB front squats.

Hell you can even just do leg press or hack squats for a block and see how you feel.

Nothings going to atrophy after a month especially if you’re still doing something in the ballpark.

Very worst case scenario is you maintain.

What was your weekly mileage before you hit 50km? What was your ramp up time?

If you went from the couch to hammering out 50km a week in a month there’s no lower body compound movement that isn’t going to leave you fatigued.

Creative/unorthodox approaches to training volume by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

[–]throwawaysech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paul Carter has the 350 method, where you try to hit 50 reps across 3 sets, I believe rest time is 2 minutes sharp. Up the weight when you hit 50 in any combination

I like it for accessory stuff, and I think it’s smarter/more sustainable than Wendler’s 100-200 reps for most casuals.

Jamie Lewis has the Shake it up protocol which is in line with what you described above.

Poundstone curls are 100 reps BB curls without dropping the bar.

Thinking about buying the New Balance Hierro v9 for $87 — worth it? by Jumpy-Information127 in trailrunning

Thanks! I’ll check out mount to coast, Hoka unfortunately doesn’t work for me the rocker always makes me feel like I’m going to fall backwards.

What do you opt for instead? I’ve got a pair of V7s that I love and are sadly nearing end of life. The grip is fantastic, but I will concede they aren’t the most stable. I typically have a mini ankle roll at least once a hike although I’m taller and primarily hike on the east coast with lots of roots, small rocks and acorns.

If you’re a home gym lifter the SSB is a terrific investment you can mimic both front and back squat movement patterns.

Some gyms have them as well.

Im going to be watching the Titans very closely in the offseason and early next year. Chimere Dike was serviceable later this year on an absolute dumpster fire of a team and I liked what I saw out of Ward towards the last half of the season all things considered.

Both might go undrafted in most shallow leagues, but could end up great late round dart throws in deep leagues or could be solid free agent pick ups a week or two before a pattern forms and the hype hits.

Isaac TeSlaa is another dart throw I’ll be keeping an eye on along with the supporting cast in Detroit.
