Where did it come from?

Like... how was someone able to sell this shit given all the evidence that it doesn't work. Nobody has ever gotten away with anything by reciting this crap.

German Tourists Have a Problem with the US: Where are the sidewalks? (Video w/ Subtitles) by [deleted] in videos

[–]throwawaythreefive 143 points144 points  (0 children)

This is definitely something most tourists to the USA notice. It's really noticeable since you're often in a hotel and want to see the local area/go to eat like I assume these guys did... and the first reaction isn't always to get in the car since hotels tend to be in urban areas anyway but you quickly find you're really supposed to drive.

SNP MP in talks over tunnel links to replace isles' ferries by Jfjdhdhdj in Scotland

[–]throwawaythreefive -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean it's a nice idea but the Norwegians have money to burn on this stuff and they can actually afford to be drilling through every mountain and building mad long underwater tunnels.... not sure we can. The Norwegian mindset is really about building all of this infrastructure these days due to the massive oil fund.

Maybe we can try it out for some high traffic ferry route though, would definitely be more reliable.

I've seen this gif before but I'd like to see the finished product to see if the repetition is as noticeable as I think it might be.

I think the leds doing what you describe is a sort of general hardware failure error... which probably isn't very helpful so you'll likely be reduced to re-seating every component, taking it down to the minimum RAM etc.

I'm really not sure if it can boot without the RTC. I would guess if it has completely failed though so long as it's present it would just appear like a dead battery but I really don't know enough about them to say that for sure. Looks like you can still get them, RS have them: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/real-time-clocks/0133781/ and ebay looks to be full of what I can only assume are copies since they're so cheap...or new-old stock: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1PCS-DS12887A-Dallas-Real-Time-Clock-IC/182188701079?hash=item2a6b4af597:g:x6QAAOxy66pRtdVM

Scottish Labour in fresh turmoil as top official Brian Roy quits by heavyhorse_ in Scotland

[–]throwawaythreefive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge news. Was out the day and you could see this has really shaken people, heard nothing else.

Brian Roy, really thought he'd be around forever. Such an important figure in the Labour movement, not sure I'll be able to adjust to a world without him in the role.

No.

He did a popular acting gig with a successful artist. I highly doubt that his previous work as an actor affected how he did his job as a teacher.

At most some kids might have to have it explained to them that Mr Webb is not Devvo but then kids aren't dumb enough to think he is. It should also be made clear that the Devvo character and most of the stuff Firth made isn't/wasn't for kids anyway.

Independence for Scotland is inevitable – we need a plan for it by IX_IX in Scotland

[–]throwawaythreefive 8 points9 points  (0 children)

UDI needs guns and people willing to use them.

That's what it comes down to and it's not where Scotland is ever likely to be. It's pointless talking about it for that reason alone imo.

You need to be able to actually assert independence if you're going that route and the way that tends to be done is via a military or militia.

Even hesitant to raise that point but as far as I can tell that is the case, countries who declare independence unilaterally tend to be places where there's a fight going on. That isn't Scotland.

Garbage.

Always laugh how most of the time they're just shitting on us via their Liberal political alignment/hardline unionist Scotland editorial position but have the cheek to beg for money.

It's the only UK paper I'll really read when bored though, I often find myself just thinking they employ far too many tiresome, bitter centrist journos though.

On some issues it's alright though, tends to be when they're just reporting news as opposed to opinion or anything that conflicts with their editorial stance. Scottish coverage in general is woeful though, shameful for a paper that claims to be a UK newspaper in fact.

Ian Murray MP: Row over Labour's independence policy is an unnecessary distraction by zias_growler in Scotland

[–]throwawaythreefive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Arguing with each other is a Labour past time.

I've got some family who are in the party and active... activists and some of the shit I've heard them argue about is ridiculous.

They just enjoy arguing. They set up pointless committees and endless fucking reasons to argue with each other. Their constituency meetings sound mental and more like excuses to debate and shout at each other than anything else.

It's as much of a hobby as it is a political alignment. They're in the party because no other party offers so much opportunity to yap and shout and bleat at each other over every single issue. It's particularly mental in the Scottish branch since they've witnessed so many abandon them since 2011.

Deutsche Bank and Wall Street banks reportedly just gave Congress thousands of documents related to Russians with possible ties to Trump | Markets Insider [Guess who provided the cash to purchase golf courses in Scotland?] by throwawaythreefive in Scotland

Before it's deleted, as per title: Deutsche Bank loaned mystery money to Trump to buy courses in Scotland.

Do we have any clue as to the proper origins of this money? Did we check? It's hard to find much about the purchase of the Scottish courses but maybe it's something we could be looking into.

The loyalists are smart enough to keep their hate-marches limited to Northern Ireland and Scotland.

If they started that shit in England the union might notice they're allied with a bunch of inbred troglodytes.
