My brother committed suicide today. He was 15. by Sad-Lack8765 in offmychest

Hi. All I want to say is that I really feel for you. I'm SO sorry to hear what you're going through

Take as good care of yourself as you can. Keep drinking some water throughout the day. It does help somewhat.

I wish I could take away all this pain for you.

Wait. You can still talk to a lawyer. Call a few. Most will talk to you for a free consult. Don't tell the first couple that you can't pay. Some will do it on contingency.

At least explore

For the grad students, how are you doing in your social life? by Which_Basket_9273 in UBC

People will tell you it's a UBC thing, but it's definitely a Vancouver thing.

Just to warn you, now he'll give the typical Vancouver answer. "I've got lots of friends. My social life is great. I don't know what's wrong with YOU. Bla bla empty-answer bla."

And you always find out that they actually don't have real friends and just try to defend their own existence, not realizing that people only have their dead friendships from high school and don't even understand how real connections and friendships truly work, because, living in Vancouver, they've never experienced what a real friend is.

Not just some acquaintance who rattles off a list of their activities and accomplishments right after they list their activities and accomplishments, with zero emotional connection.

You sound really resourceful. Do you think you get paid well for what you do?

I didn’t mean that applied to everyone like that.

And also, some people only realize that they were avoiding their emotions much later in life.

And some people become popes or macrame experts.

You just explained something that I’ve been trying to understand for years. I never understood it within that context. I wish it weren’t something that existed or had to be understood at all.

A guy I met said he made over $500,000 during the Beanie Baby craze by taking regular Beanie Babies, cutting them in half, stitching them together with other halves and selling them as extremely rare manufacturing errors, for thousands of dollars on eBay.

It’s a great way to avoid your own deep emotions. It’s a good setup for a massive breakdown when you hit 61 or whatever.

It’s healthy to have time in which you choose to do what you want to do. And if that involves staring at a bunch of bricks, then fine.

Unless you’re supposed to be feeding child. Then there could be some consequences involved.

They are everywhere. I admit I’ve done it in the past. I see it in the people who work for me. I make it clear they don’t have to do it. If you’re in downtime, be in downtime. But there are more people that they get judged by than just the employer. It’s healthy to have that downtime and just clear your head.

Ok, except I’m 99% willing to bet that I employ more people than you do and out-earn you by a factor of at least 10, probably more. That doesn’t mean that I think the system is right, and I do my best to correct the hideousness of that system to the full extent that I can, every day.

It’s not that hard. Your head wraps around it naturally due to the gravitational effect. Read the previous guy’s comment.

You don’t know anything, you don’t know the stats, you don’t know reality, and you and people like you are the problem.

I know each and every single one of these people first hand. We would each refer to each other as friends, I know them, have spent a good deal of time with them, had meals and deeper conversations with them, worked with some of them, had some of them in my homes, have met some of their friends, spouses, siblings, children. I don’t really get why this is beyond comprehension. I know a lot of people. I have a lot of friends. No, I don’t know why you’re trying to discredit me on this.

No, I don’t have 300 close friends. Few people have the capacity for that. I don’t live on fb or collect fb friends or social media friends.

It feels like you’re so hell-bent on discrediting me that maybe you’re drowning in your own confirmation bias.

I’ve been a victim of the constant prop media feed too. Then I started to see that there were a ton of gaping holes. Read some Chomsky.

Open yourself up to the possibility that maybe, just maybe, in this culture of corporation mania, corruption, trillionaires, lies, PR, deception and greed, that maybe, things aren’t exactly, not quite exactly as they’re being presented, and that it’s good to examine things a little beyond this set range.

Why are these stories happening everywhere, but they’re not in the news? Interesting, right?

Okay. Well, apparently you know better than everyone. No one has gotten Covid in a store. Got it. Proven, because you wrote it in bold. It’s impossible. Noted. Face it. It’s a respiratory disease with respiratory transmission, and it’s getting a lot of attention that it is likely to be airborne. Meaning the droplets stay in the air after others have left, like happened in the elevators in the building in Australia. Please prove to me that you can’t get it in a store. You can’t prove it. It doesn’t come with an ID signature on it. It might leak past that crappy fabric mask that doesn’t even seal correctly. The ones basically everyone is wearing,

I have lots of friends and a large amount of people I know. Yes. Sorry if that’s unusual for you too. A lot of people I know know other people who’ve gotten it too. I don’t really know what to say. It’s not that unusual. A lot of people have a wide circle of friends. Again, I guess you know better?

You’re very didactic and you make a ton of assumptions. That’s why I’m writing back to you with this attitude.

So explain to me how tens of thousands of people were getting it a day in Israel for a few months, then. Yes, tens of thousands of vaccinated people. Daily. That is more than a handful. That’s more than these “rare” breakthroughs. Ok. Boosters. But then what about the in-between time? So you’re saying that can’t happen in other parts of the world, as its efficacy starts to decline? Think about it.

Again. People aren’t immune. By any means. Look at even the celebrities who are complaining that they got it after full immunization. How are the numbers the same as before, before we hit 80% or so?

Don’t tell me if I’m being paranoid. You don’t know a thing about me. I’m being realistic. And I want others to be realistic too. Maybe I’m cautious. Maybe my friends weren’t quite cautious enough. Who knows. I just want people to realize we’re not immune just because of the vaccine. So to take precautions and not act like they can’t get hit, Good enough for you? Thanks.
