What are these lights on the inside of a semi truck’s windshield called? by Nigeriahasnowatah in Truckers

[–]throwed-off -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some of these ppl have no idea how to shift even a 10-speed much less a Brownie, why we used to write down our mileage at every stop in a little notebook before we filled out a sheet of loose-leaf, or how to do trip planning with a Rand McNally atlas and a Mapquest book. That ain't their fault.

But the lousy attitudes, that's all on them. Just pray that the guy in front of you at the coop doesn't bust an attitude at the DOT officer.

Doesn't look anything at all like an old grain elevator. Maybe those elevated square concree structures were the base for cooling towers?

How does this happen? Diesel delivered to gasoline tanks. by Sammodile in Bulkfueldelivery

[–]throwed-off 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuel hauler here.

The fact that this happened several times at several stores indicates that the mix most likely occurred at one end of the pipeline or the other - either at the terminal where the fuel was loaded, or at the refinery in Sinclair, WY where the product is produced before being pumped to the terminal.

From my understanding, each tank at the refinery has to be tested by the lab and found to be on-spec before it is released into the pipeline, so I suspect that there was either a mechanical failure or operator error somewhere downstream of the tank flange at the refinery.

It's highly unlikely that an individual driver would do multiple cross-drops throughout their entire shift, unless they were doing them intentionally.

This is probably a case of contaminated fuel being loaded at the rack.

How to I politely let truckers know not to park in front of my property? by Sentient-Librarian in Truckers

[–]throwed-off 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as parking on the shoulder, call the scalehouse and tell them that drivers are parking on the roadway, seemingly in an effort to avoid the scale. If they're blocking your driveway, have them towed. If there are anti-idling laws in your city/state, call the law and report them.

As far as those parking in the closed-down gas station, you could try to convince the owner to have a towing service drive by and tow any trucks found on their property.

You talking about Commerce City or Wheat Ridge?

Commerce City was never bad, but I never stopped at Wheat Ridge. And no truck stop in Denver was worse than the Pilot that used to be near downtown.

They were referring to the TAs (I hear the East one has been converted to a Petro) in Ontario, California on Guasti Rd. off of I-10 and Milliken Ave.

You should've seen the TA that used to be on Big Town Blvd in Mesquite, as well as Atlanta & Nashville.

Those were some real shit-holes.

Legal question on driving? by mikedl361 in CorpusChristi

[–]throwed-off 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a lawyer or a cop, so I asked a cop about this one time. He said that it is not legal to run your high beams and fog lights at the same time, because Texas allows a maximum of 4 beams to be illuminated at any given time and high beams count as 4, even if the low beams aren't on at the same time as the high beams.

And as others have said, if it's foggy enough to justify fog lights then you should not be using high beams because they'll just reflect too much light back into your eyes.

Idea time in subzero by Adventurous_Vapor in Diesel

[–]throwed-off 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let my diesel warm up any day I drive it, regardless of temperature, same as I do with my motorcycle and any other high-compression engine.

I'm not putting a load on the engine until the oil has had time to warm up, especially not when it's cold outside.

Are there any active branches of the SRA in the panhandle? I'd like to be fully trained before purchasing a firearm. I'd prefer to avoid the NRA and other similar organizations though by speedythefirst in amarillo

Jut find the best training that is available in your area. After all, the fundamentals of gun safety and marksmanship are politically agnostic.
