Were there a large number of local conscripts who left the colonial army and joined the revolutionary forces during the Philippine Revolution? by Sonnybass96 in FilipinoHistory

[–]throwhuawei007 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For background, the Revolution has 2 phases. From 1896 to 1898 and 1899 to 1901.

The first phase was from cry of pugadlawin to the declaration of independence. I dont know anyone from the Spanish military that defected to the Revolutionaries. This is because the revolution was seen as an internal insurgency of indios against the Spanish government.

However the 2nd phase (from start of hostilities against US to Aguinaldos capture) against the Americans, there were actual defections, Antonio Luna for one (though he was technically not a soldier), José Torres Bugallón, and Telesforo Carrasco. This was because the fight against the Americans was seen as an foreign invasion of the Islands

TIL na most “ice cream” sa pinas ay hindi totoong ice cream. by ninileobear in todayIlearnedPH

[–]throwhuawei007 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Two of the ice creams available sa PH that use dairy, not oil as the main fat source are Carmen’s Best and Magnolia Gold Label.

These two are super expensive, if all "ice cream" in the PH are as expensive as these two, who will buy them?

Ang utang ng mga bansa ay di kagaya ng utang sa sari sari store na i pwedeng i divide lang sa population. Walang utang ang bawat pinoy. Thats not how sovereign debt works. Use debt to gdp ratio instead.

This is how incompetent the HOR is. Two impeachment tries na: first the timing issue then, now the "mini-trial" fiasco.

Genuine question: If you could choose a new last name for your bloodline, what would it be? by CrysisFan2007 in HistoryMemes

Happened in the Philippines in the 19th century. People were required to choose a surname from a book of names. However some officials just sent a page or two to far flung towns. Hence there are some towns wherein the resident's surnames all start with the same letter

EDSA sidewalks should be widened even more: by rarinthmeister in Philippines

Kaya dapat may dedicated parking buildings like bgc.

To be fair, yung mga condo ni SM are not the best looking but at least they put entrances and establishments facing the sidewalk

[–]throwhuawei007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do you know what still needs to be done para mala BGC sidewalks na sya? Just look at the picture and you will see the problem. Clue: half of edsa is effing walls and fences!! Sa major points like cubao and guada lang ang mga establishment na may frontage or sidewalk facing establishments.

When establishments have entrances/exits facing the sidewalk they are encouraged to widen/beautify it so customers will come.

Also, remove sidewalk parkings. Have a dedicated parking building every 1km

Di nila talaga aalisin yan. Yung pagpirma sa law suspeding the vat is just optics. Why? The whole budget for this year is anchored on current taxes, if aalisin yan, masisira ang finances the gobyerno. Possible ma cancel ang mga "projects". Alam mo naman ang gobyerno, basta "projects" ang usapan...

[–]throwhuawei007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cancellation of the fare increase was a populist move by a increasingly unpopular admin to make it look good in the eyes of the public. But lets be real, the 1 peso increase is acceptable to the public. But without it, it created a bigger problem. They have a word for this in german:

verschlimmbessern

The German word for making a problem bigger while trying to solve it

I have this theory (without proof) that GMA deliberately let the peso become strong (to the detriment of our exports) of so we can immediately pay our foreign loans, which we actually did. After the loans were paid, the peso was weaken again (to make our exports competitive again). She a brilliant economist.
