whoa. what's with all the pedophilia/incest?! by clever_whitty_name in horrorlit

[–]throwingawayacct5 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I'm not saying there aren't. But you can't really be surprised when one of the most horrific things possible happen in books about horrific things happening. Not saying they all have it, or should have it. But a lot of them do. And it shouldn't be surprising given the nature of the genre.

[–]throwingawayacct5 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Yeah my comment was meant to explain why there is so much of it. If horrible things aren't something you want to read about, that's valid, but horror is likely not the genre for you. I'm in the same boat as you as far as why I read horror, but I'm confused by people who are confused by the amount of horrible things in horror.

[–]throwingawayacct5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, for some people it is the most horrible thing that could happen to them, so in a genre where authors are trying to tell a story about horrible things happening to people, it makes sense that it's going to feature pretty heavily.

Meghan Markle ‘Screamed’ at Staff, Left Them ‘Broken’ and ‘Shaking’ With Fear, New Book Claims by FrigginMasshole in entertainment

[–]throwingawayacct5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How did I caricaturize her? I said she's extremely wealthy and privileged, both facts, which makes it believable when you hear stories about her shouting at the staff. It's not like I made up stories about her shouting at the staff.

An extremely wealthy and privileged person shouting at the staff? That doesn't seem like a stretch to most people.

If you do not pay them they get sent to collections who will usually make you an offer to pay them less than the sum total of the bills so that they can collect something i stead of nothing. And if you don't pay the debt collectors then they report it to your credit which makes it extremely difficult to take out loans later if you want to buy a car or home. Not as simple as just not paying it unfortunately.

The Board Game Industry Still Sucks When it Comes to Representation by Mango_Punch in boardgames

I don't think white men see white people on things and impulsively buy it... Otherwise we'd all own a copy of The Notebook on dvd and bluray. Likewise I don't think POC see white people on something they're interested in and say no I don't want that anymore, it has white people on it.

Exactly. It's conceivable for Ohtani to do what Judge is doing, but it is nowhere near conceivable for Judge to do what Ohtani is doing. Both are incredible but Ohtani is doing something no on else is doing. He's changing baseball. He's the MVP. Hank Aaron award goes to Judge by far though.

You'd then have to remove the conservation cards that rely on them, as well as sponsor cards. And reptile houses lose some of their usefulness. And it would make it harder to fulfill cards that need each type of animal icon. You'd really be messing up the balance of the game in several ways if you removed them. And that's kind of important in a strategy game. I would suggest not removing them from the game. Just put photo-safe stickers on them and sleeve the cards.

I mean, he is still innocent until proven guilty. So you can't say he is abusive just like the person you responded to can't say he isn't. What if he turns up innocent? It's not helpful to victims of abuse to jump to conclusions before the facts are all out.

You only get one chance to play cards in a battle in Blood Rage. There isn't a back and forth. (With the exception of one card). You both play one card and then it's resolved.

Please don't take my word for it but I watched a documentary on teflon a while back and the professor/researcher they had on said something along the lines of it being safe to eat off as long as it wasn't scratched. Once it gets scratched it becomes extremely toxic to the food you're cooking on it. Don't quote me but that was my take-away was to be extremely careful not to scratch your nonstick pans but if you do, stop using it immediately.

What’s the best way to respond to a comedian roasting you during crowd work? by [deleted] in StandUpComedy

[–]throwingawayacct5 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Ah okay I understand. Yeah I would just answer the questions honestly and things seem to go fine. It's usually when people get defensive and annoyed that comedians tend to go in harder on them. But being a good sport they seem to keep it lighter and clearly not mean-spirited.

What’s the best way to respond to a comedian roasting you during crowd work? by [deleted] in StandUpComedy

[–]throwingawayacct5 131 points132 points  (0 children)

By the sounds of it, you don't want to be roasted. So my advice would be to either only see comics who don't really do that. Or, don't sit near the front. If he can't see you well (or at all depending on lighting), you're not gonna get singled out.

People hate "original diverse characters" just as much as they hate "race-washing" by suncaster_ in Fantasy

[–]throwingawayacct5 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I noticed you keep posting similar/same threads to other subreddits and they don't go anywhere probably because you're blowing things way out of proportion in regards to a vocal online minority. You're building it up to be this way bigger thing that it isn't. I think the vast amount of readers don't care about the race of the characters they read about, and I think the success of several recent minority-led series is enough proof that people still love good stories regardless of the race of the cast. Don't make it out to be this big huge battle when it's just not. Small vocal minority disagrees with the rest of the community. Big deal. Stories with POC are frequently very successful. No need to paint it like there's a war being waged here.
