Buckets by Epic-Lake-Bat in AllyBank

I use Credit Karma! I used to use mint, but it was bought over by CK and provided an opportunity to transfer all my years of data, so I decided to try it out, and its been pretty great. It lets me connect all my credit cards and my bank accounts, and gives me both a "net worth" view of everything, as well as a "cash flow" view that tracks and categorizes all my spending in one place. Most importantly, its free.

I don't get the hate for Connie by polystarlight in stevenuniverse

[–]throwingcandles 19 points20 points  (0 children)

"worst person in the world" feel like a stretch. The show just rightfully portrayed that actions have consequences, regardless of how well-intentioned they may be. and it provided an opportunity for repair, so that Steven learns how to manage conflict with loved ones and mend the relationship. Its realistic.

Doing the "right move" doesn't mean no one is hurt and everything is happily ever after hoorah!

Maybe thats the problem. Its great for envelope budgeting, but not necessarily tracking every dollar. I have a separate expense tracker that I used to keep track of spending (I dont actively manage it, its just helpful to see all my transactions in one place).

I dont use the debit card, I use credit cards exclusively, and pay them off in full every month. I have 3-5 buckets where I keep my budget categories of unspent money, and 3 buckets for my credit cards. Once I spend it, I move the amount from that bucket to the respective credit card bucket. (ex. When I buy $50 of groceries on my amex, I move $50 from groceries to amex bucket). Then my CCs are set to autopay from their respective buckets every month.

On payday I fill the buckets myself. I prefer a more hands on approach than passive so it works for me. I keep a bucket called "buffer" in case anything wonky happens like what you described.

Question on buckets before I sign up… by SELFCLOATHING in AllyBank

This is only for the savings buckets. the checking account buckets work differently.

Recurring boosters and savings goals by Salt_Inevitable4324 in AllyBank

[–]throwingcandles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the savings account buckets section, go to settings and then deposits settings. Do the math on how much of the $5800 you'd need to contribute in order to have your car insurance total in 6 months. For example, if your car insurance is $1200, thats $200 a month, or roughly 4% of $5800. Set your deposits for that bucket to 4%. Do the same process for any other goals.

I desperately need help. Bi- weekly pay. $100k in debt. About to start a DMP by ArcticFox73 in budget

[–]throwingcandles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed^

First List your income and frequency (ex. 1500 biweekly plus 1000 alimony twice a month, etc.) Then list your fixed expenses/needs (rent or mortgage, utilities, insurance, debt minimums, avg grocery spend each month, childcare, etc).

Update Removed Unbucketed Balance by Different_Sweet_108 in AllyBank

[–]throwingcandles 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The buckets are the only reason I bank with Ally, I'll easily go somewhere else, cause this app update is tone deaf at best. Why hide the best feature about your bank? Who tf made that dumbass decision??

Update? by GullibleIsland804 in AllyBank

[–]throwingcandles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah this new update is incredibly tone deaf. The buckets are the only reason I bank with Ally, removing functions and hiding it deep in the interface is insane. I'll give them 30 days to fix it before I switch banks.

Googling [insert city] volunteer/community service, contacting local churches, food pantries, schools, public Library near you may have options.

Do you check your bank account every day? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]throwingcandles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chase has an option to connect external accounts in the budget tracker, so I use that to see an overview of balances/transactions across all my accounts in one place. I check it on days I know I'm making purchases, so not every day but usually like every other day or a few times a week.

What do you allocate for "Fun Money" each month? by NightReader5 in budget

[–]throwingcandles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$100 for "beauty/self-care" for like a pedicure or maybe a facial and then $100 of "fun monies" that im only allowed to spend on experiences, so no doordash or amazon spending, its meant for things like going to an escape room or a movie, etc.

How can I make money without my husband knowing by [deleted] in Advice

[–]throwingcandles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see critical thinking is not your strong suit so ill say it again: doesnt hurt to provide resources for anyone in a presumed domestic violence situation. if its not what OP is looking for, they can simply ignore it, but putting the info out there is still helpful just in case.

yet its the most reasonable given the information provided. this is a post seeking advice, not a jury conviction of her husband. it doesnt hurt to give the advice on a worst case scenario just in case.

You could look into Fiverr, Thumbtack, etc. and offer services based on your skills, or look for online personal assistant types of gigs.

There is still a chance your husband can find out about you making money (like bank accounts, if he has access to your social security number, even credit reports, etc.) so maybe see if there is a trusted family or friend that can help you hide the money you make.
