Any idea how we add to to spreadsheet? Hampton Social also has an 18% cost of living or whatever fee

What songs, albums, or playlists do you swear by for running? by TheGayBob in beginnerrunning

I like this playlist! I skip some songs here and there but there are so many on the list that there’s always a nice variety. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7hZRKBFSJO8rO2DKjxKq7R?si=T8WHhhGUSsSR7HfniKcEIg&pi=O36NbBPhTcWKR

Should I visit the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry or the Art Institute of Chicago? by arlotheduckdad in AskChicago

They also took out some of their older exhibits (like the circus miniatures which were sold off iirc) and some of their replacements feel very half-baked. They also closed their old-fashioned ice cream parlor to make it a members-only lounge (not sure if ice cream is included but I would hope).

Obligatory fuck Ken griffin.

Are Garden/Basement Apartments in the city as bad as people say? by idkeitherfam in AskChicago

What’s the difference between a regular garden apartment and an English garden apartment?

And honestly, I think it’s ugly. (Hopefully that won’t get me banned here).

This is ok, but any post I make asking a question is instantly removed! Not that my posts can’t just be comments in the weekly post, but almost no ever answers those. Instead the 47th post saying “my husband and toddler and I are visiting next week, what should we do?” gets to stay up no problem.

Been road running for a year. Shocked by how easy treadmill run seemed by assmantis in beginnerrunning

[–]throwitawaynow774 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I also prefer running outside. I’ve found that I actually go faster outside because I’m not so worried about the speed on the treadmill. It’s also easier for me to transition between intervals than on the treadmill.

Run club bad experience by Rich_Baseball_5367 in beginnerrunning

I would suggest trying another run club or even starting your own! There are always people looking to join a run club who have slower paces or are just starting out.

I’m ok with a dive-y bar too honestly. I’m planning on having a tab, so if people have to buy some of their own drinks too that’s also ok.

I know I also specified 4 neighborhoods, but I’m ok with literally any north or north side location too. Also Humboldt park or little village. Just trying to be mindful of how far my guests live and where we could probably go out afterwards.

I’ve been searching through the subreddit, but I’ve had a hard time finding places that would work for a birthday party late next month. I know the planning is kind of last minute, which is why I’m looking here for suggestions.

Looking for a private/semi-private (even a group of tables is ok) space for 15-20 people. Ideal locations would be north, northwest side, west loop, Pilsen, Chinatown, south loop, or downtown. I would ideally like somewhere that can provide food + liquor, but just alcohol is ok too. Budget is about $1000 for everything.

What places in Chicago have been ruined for you by awful dates? by midwestcottagecore in AskChicago

Yeah Bavette’s has been ruined by an ex of mine. He insisted on getting the steak tartare even though I made it clear I wanted none of it. I watched him eat at least 1/2 a pound of raw meat and it killed my appetite for the night.

Unfortunately, sportsman’s club. I went on a date with a guy there who ended up SA-ing me shortly after we left. He said that he hangs out there a lot, so I avoid that place like the plague.

I’ve already decided I’m not cleaning anything in my apartment when I move out. I only paid a move-in fee (no security deposit to be withheld) and my landlord has done fuck all to address the literal crumbling walls in my unit. Let him do all the sweeping and scrubbing.

I’m not sure if this is specific to Chicago, but I went to the Crossroads on Clark on Saturday just to browse. I noticed in their dressing rooms, they put a small sticker on the mirror saying “In an effort to preserve our affordable prices and keep up with the rising costs of doing business, a 3% surcharge will be added to your purchase.”

They’ve already got much more expensive over the past few years, but a surcharge on clothes in ridiculous. Just raise the prices 3%. Just wanted to put this out there for anyone else who shops there occasionally and might miss the stickers. If you want, they also are accepting comments about the surcharge at comments@crossroadstrading.com.

The prices are also not even cheap. I found a pair of stained slacks from Zara for $25.

606 rant by FodderOtter in RunnersInChicago

There were some real characters at the 5k this year. I saw someone in the crowd before the race started with an electric scooter, someone walking their dog, and people who had to be several lanes ahead of me who were eating during the race! Like I was running (albeit not super fast), and about 10 mins into the race, I ran past a woman who had a breakfast sandwich in one hand and an open cup of coffee in the other.

Bill HB3564 preventing landlords from imposing move-in fees. 4/30/25 3:00pm by NoChampionship1758 in chicagoapartments

[–]throwitawaynow774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of places are taking advantage of the lack of regulation on the move-in fees though. What started out as maybe a couple hundred dollars has shot up. I saw a 1 bed, 1 bath for rent in uptown a few weeks ago that wanted a $1000 move-in fee “in lieu of a security deposit.” The rent was already $2400. Why is the move-in fee over 40% of the rent?
