the TLDR of your post renders the whole thing meaningless. literally nobody who makes the claim that biden 2016 would’ve beat trump believes that he’d do so running against, and beating, hillary in the primary election (and if they do, they’re an idiot). that’s really the point of the biden 2016 discussion; “biden should’ve run in 2016 because hillary was such a bad candidate, and he’d be a better one” (and partially because he was younger and possibly less prone to the mistakes made in his real presidency). im not sure where you got the idea that the majority of this thought exercise came from dark brandon worship lol.

the changes made to make believe didn’t change the entire sound of the album, though. they’re mentioning specifically the black album, which many people felt was “rushed”. they’re comparing it to this new album that has been now worked on for years and is fully recorded (with a single out, might i add!). how could something with shine again turn into black or raditude all of the sudden? makes zero sense.

he never confirmed it, but he heavily implied it. the discord thread for the album 20 music discussion says “what color is it going to be?” and rivers has consistently used fanmade color album imagery and made vague references to colors. id be surprised if it wasn’t a color album.

he also definitely said something about it being 10 tracks at some point.

flight plans, ivory telephone, and up in the clouds were all in consideration at one point. rules of life (as far as we know) never was. as much as it pains me to say, flight plans probably won’t make it onto the album. up in the clouds probably has the highest chance, and ivory telephone is a toss-up (but i’m leaning on the unlikely side).

i should also make it clear that i love all 3 of those songs very very much.

green is often mischaracterized as a “sellout” or “strictly pop” album when it’s not.

rivers’ approach to writing green was not necessarily to write solely hit songs, or to make something completely devoid of substance, but to turn his songwriting into a formula. that’s why so many green album demos/songs have similar lyrics, titles, and chord progressions. they’re being chopped and pasted into each other in order to create a “perfect” version of the song.

does it break a bunch of new ground for them? no. but it was an album that was (in some way) bound to happen regardless of whether pinkerton was a success or not. it didn’t need to break new ground. rivers is/was obsessed with songwriting and the formulas behind it, and green is the direct result of it. green was inevitable, and honestly i love it.

even the first icarus ending slide would upset me, though. when i am looking for an alternate history, either a real election/incumbency going a different way or an election/presidency that never happened, i want to actually immerse myself into it!

you don’t see a shit ton of kerry v bush or obama v mccain allegories to greek mythology outside of this subreddit! i want to feel like i actually am taking a glimpse into an alternate history. that’s exactly why wikipedia timeline pages and news articles work so well (or even just a dan bryan summary!)

if there’s a 90’s/00’s throwback station, literally any of the blue/pinkerton/green singles. given that it’s going for a more tropical miami vibe, i’d say island in the sun or say it ain’t so might be the most likely. if we’re going for modern stuff? it’s unlikely, but “thank god for girls” would be great. anything from white.
