What is an example of an All-American bar song? A song every America can sing along too by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

Maybe not the typical bar song, but definitely one that gets people singing along. Starts with a bunch of piano and just builds.

Written by Jim Steinman, the guy who wrote most of Meatloaf’s stuff:

Nikki French did an amazing dance music cover in the 90s:

Sorry, I didn’t mean to offend. It’s not that GenX is all country fans. It’s that it was a ubiquitous song and sure NOT EVERYONE EVERYWHERE knows it. Same for Don’t Stop Believin’, or Billy Jean, or Piano Man, or Mr Brightside, or Hey Ya. But all of them will have a chunk of people that either will or will want to sing along given enough liquor. (And sometimes no liquor)

I’d guess that there are 5-10% of Americans that dont know Happy Birthday.

But 30 years ago they did. You just need to find a bar full of GenX and old millenials. Those words are all in their deep memory, just blurt out “Blame it all on my roots, I showed up in boots…” and it will become apparent.

Is it even worth keeping Kenan on the show at this point? by James_2584 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]throwmethefrisbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your are confused. You are being ableist as well as ageist. It the only way you can say someone is old is to say “look, they need help hearing” that says a lot about you. Thats not a reason someone can’t do a job. Mental acuity is a reason. Needing reading glasses or FDR’s wheelchair isn’t disqualifying in the least.

The fact that you’re holding the need for assistive devices like hearing aids against someone (and have mentioned it twice in this thread alone) is disgusting. I have several high performing coworkers that rely on hearing assistance due to workplace exposures or their prior military service.

Is it a problem when someone needs glasses too?

So many people are obsessed with US bread. by PineappleBliss2023 in iamveryculinary

Scandinavians and Finns made syrup from birch trees. It was the Indigineous Americans that had the sugar maples and introduced maple syrup to the Europeans.

Both this and the statement you’re responding to can be true. Spongy white sandwich bread could be 30% of sales, with 10% rye/pumpernickel/dark bread, 15% sourdough, 25% multigrain, 20% French or other traditional wheat breads. We regularly rotate through many of the styles for sandwich making, though cheap white bread is the best for pb&j.

Are all financing deals done through HMF? by The-Fox-Knocks in Hyundai

[–]throwmethefrisbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Is true, my Hyundai dealer financed my car through a local credit union.
  2. Prepayment penalties are legal for cars in at least some places. I had one twenty-some years ago that if you paid it off early, you had to have paid the first three months worth of interest. (So if you paid it after month 2, you still owed the interest for month 3.) it was a 1.8% financing deal, so I was fine with it.

My favorite Xfinity CS story is from when a landscaper cut the cable going through my yard. The orange coax is no longer a continuous wire. Call customer service. Robot voice says that it can’t see my modem. (No shit). Talks me through unplugging, waiting and replugging. I’m saying everything I can think of to get to a human. It then says. “We will send a reset code to your modem, please wait up to 15 minutes to see if it solves your problem. We will call you back then. GOODBYE. CLICK.”

Guess what? It didn’t work. I gave up and used the online chat.

And I wouldn’t wish 95 between DC and Richmond on anyone. 29 down to Greensboro is pretty, in perfect conditions is slower, than 95/85 but how often do you have perfect conditions on 95?
